Reviews Green Papaya

The Green Papaya, located right across the street from Walmart in the Ala Moano area of Honolulu was a good choice for a midday meal if you are already in the area; however, I don't think I'd make a trip just to eat there. Both Mr. B and I got cold vermicelli bowls - his with chicken and mine with pork and a fried spring roll. The food was (by Portland standards) a bit pedestrian, but definitely worthwhile and wallet-friendly. The service was decent, but not stellar: I had ask for extra nuoc cham sauce (dipping sauce) twice, but eventually got what I wanted.

We ordered the tofu curry from DoorDash. It was very quick and warm. It came with noodles instead of rice and only had tofu, potatoes, onion and carrots. I think my grandma expected more veggies since she’s vegetarian but as she was sick and this was fast it got the job done. Thanks

I had the BBQ chicken and pork chop rice and it was very yummy and savory. The seasoning was tasty. This will be my go-to Vietnamese restaurant.

Mom and Pop atmosphere with excellent customer service, and the soups are tasty. The only thing I wish in the hot pot are Manila clams.

Green Papaya is now on the corner of Young St. and Keeaumoku St. it’s now combined with Pot Pot Shabu Buffet under the same owner. So now you can get either the same old Green Papaya menu, which is excellent, or shabu shabu hot pot. The new space offers a lot more parking options than their old place and the restaurant space itself is larger and nicer. For the shabu shabu side, they have a ton of choices for meats and veggies in the refrigerators (see photos). And as for the Green Papaya, they still have the best spring rolls and Tom Yum on the island!

The lady that runs the place is so nice. She remembers who you are even after not seeing you for a very long time. I've tried every shabu shabu broth. Many choices of meats and veggie toppings. Definitely a place to bring friends/family visiting Oahu.

It's a nice place to have some good food. My favorite is the tom yum, spring rolls and they make fresh lemonade or iced tea lemonade. Yum!

This place was perfection for us. They're open later than most, are homey and casual, and serve large portions of tasty vegetarian food at a very reasonable price. The woman who runs the place is so charming and made us custom dishes based on what we were hungry for, and besides that the spicy sauteed lemongrass tofu was delicious.

I haven’t dined in but their food is INCREDIBLE. Loads of vegetarian options. I highly recommend Thai’s Spicy Tofu Sour Soup. It’s so flavorful. I got the crispy noodles today and don’t really know how to eat it but it’s also great nevertheless. The staff is friendly when I call to place my order and helpful in answering questions. Highly recommend this spot!

Delicious vegetarian options, it's a shared hot pot location, but the inside is well lit, quiet, and clean. Nice wooden tables. Good service. Curry on vermicelli, green papaya salad, and spring rolls were all perfect. Large portions. BYOB.

The food was delicious. Heidi was very kind and attentive and suggested we try the vegetarian spring rolls, the green papaya salad, thai tofu spicy noodle soup and the curried vegetables. Everything was delicious and fresh and well made. Will definitely visit again.

Great vegetarian options. Everything was fresh & delicious. The owner is a delightful older lady & is there everyday. She works hard to be sure the customers are happy. They have certain times/days for all you can eat. Looked popular!

So yummy! Lots of vegetarian and dairy free options. We went twice this week, because we enjoyed the first visit so much! My husband had the hot pot, it was an all you can eat pho option. I had the Garlic shrimp - I highly recommend it!

Supported them when they were across from Walmart. True vegan Pho. Bought some for my daughter who is fighting a cold, we hope. She said she loved the meal. She is also a vegan. I love their green papaya salad.
