An unpretentious hole-in-the-Wall in downtown Houston. David the proprietor is folksy and charming and knows his Cajun food. Cold beer in the cooler includes Pabst and Lone Star—of course! I had the jambalaya and would recommend. Food is spicy for you wussies. Jalapeño cornbread optional but should be the default. Now serving lunch and dinner. Go!
The place is long on atmosphere. Tables that look out of a 50s diner, various Louisiana nicknacks, and a mixture of 50s/60s R&B and "swamp pop" on the speakers.
The shrimp poboy was wonderful with crusty bread and a nice portion of shrimp, well seasoned fries and I enjoyed the fresh squeezed strawberry lemonade to drink.
Dessert was absolutely orgasmic bread pudding. Yum yum yum.
Make this a stop if you're in Houston.
This was our 1st visit to Zydeco. The guy at the register immediately recognized we were new and had one of his guys explain the menu to us and where to order. The oyster poboy was great. The register guy has been there for 28 years so he's either a dedicated employee or an involved owner. He came to our table and brought some shrimp etouffe to sample and cleared the table so we could have a leisurely lunch without clutter. Good atmosphere, good food and most important good customer service. And the prices were reasonable. Thank you Zydeco

We ate here over spring break vacation and very much enjoyed it! Service was fantastic and it had an authentic vibe. The crawfish etouffee was amazing! Crawfish was in season and my sweetie put away 2 pounds of it single handed. I highly recommend you give them a try!
Went there before an event nearby about 6:30. The restaurant was not busy and we got our food pretty quickly. Crawfish poboy and crawfish etouffee with jalapeno cornbread, Excellent and mighty filling. I used to eat there when I worked downtown and it has great food and friendly staff.
I have always loved this place great food great service great prices and the strawberry lemonade is to die for
Great food! Do not miss the bread pudding. It's the best i've taste! Marty is very personable. He makes sure you enjoy not only the food but the experience. I recommend this place!
For the record, Marty Venable, co-owner of Zydeco, is my brother. That said, my tastebuds don’t care about DNA and recognize authenticity vs make believe Cajun. It’s not the level of heat and spice in the food but how it’s prepared. If you didn’t grow up eating it and watching how it was done by parents and grandparents you probably won’t get it right. You don’t get any more Cajun than Church Point, LA where even the men cook...most of them anyway. The crew at Zydeco do an amazing job of turning out great food daily. Just ask any regular why they keep coming back...bet it’s not for a lack of options in the downtown metro area...just saying

Zydeco's food is prepared with love---and spice. Chef Marty is one of the best in Houston.
Great place for cajun food! I highly recommend Zydecos.
Good gumbo. I had the seafood gumbo. Good cornbread too.
The best Cajun food this side of the Sabine!!! Everything I have tasted like my family's home cooking. I'm so glad to be able to come grab a bite to eat when I can't make it home to Louisiana
I'm from New Orleans so I take Creole cooking very seriously. And baby, I tell you this food was amazing!!! The catfish and shrimp are seasoned to perfection and fried just right! Sweet tea that was heavenly and the cashier was the essence of Southern hospitality. Love it , love it!!!
Usually I don't like eating crawfish etouffee at restaurants around Houston other than having it homemade. But WOW, it was really good. The closest I've tasted being in and around New Orleans, LA right here located in the heart of Houston, TX. Love the atmosphere and location. Owner is very friendly.
Authentic New Orleans cuisine in downtown Houston. I feel like I’m in a diner in Nola every time I come to Zydeco. Every day has its own specials.
I came here for lunch after coworkers ranted and raved about their food and welcoming atmosphere. After checking out the lunch menu prices, there was no way I was paying $11 for 2 pieces of fried chicken.
But boy was I mistaken… the fried chicken and juicy, full of flavor and moist. But it doesn’t stop there. You get 2 sides (I picked red beans/rice, flavorful green beans) & corn bread (regular or jalapeño). $11 is really a great deal considering all the food they give you. The rice and gravy is also super amazing. I didn’t have to put salt/pepper or Tony’s on anything! I’ll definitely make a return visit at least twice a month, maybe more. The vibe is super old school with tons of office employees that walked from their respective buildings. 5 stars!!
Zydeco Diner is an amazing spot to grab lunch and try Louisiana kitchen. Also easy reachable from GRB convention center. Every food we tried was so tasteful and very fresh at more than a fair price. The owner Marty is one of a kind, super welcoming and hospitable. Being back in Houston absolutely means visiting Zeydeco for me. Thanks for the amazing experience!!
Excellent food. Big crowd. No table service, but food was fresh and placed at the pickup window quickly. Reasonable price. My brother and sister-in-law have eaten here often and they love it, too.
I had the crawfish, corn and green beans and loved it!! I come here almost twice a week now when I’m at work. The atmosphere is relaxing and the food is Delicious. You must give them a try. I’m So excited they are even doing take out of some of their most popular dishes in the bowl size at night now!
No lines. The food was good. I chose the stuffed pork chops and it was cooked perfectly. I really liked the chicken rice. I chose 4 stars because there wasn’t many sides that I liked to eat in general.
Great little find. I had never been there and the kitchen staff explained what everything was to me. I also had a wonderful conversation with their mother who happens to also work there. Good food at a great price with a wonderful staff. The owner was nice to.
Came in here because it's close to my job and I fell in love! I had a bowl of gumbo and it was just like I was in Louisiana. Super hardy and flavorful not to mention the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. It had such a homey comfortable feel to it! 10/10 would recommend to a friend.
I thoroughly enjoyed the crawfish, corn, and green beans dish! It has become a regular craving of mine since I started coming here twice a week during work. The ambiance of this place is so calming, and the food is absolutely delightful. I highly recommend giving them a try. Moreover, I'm thrilled to share that they now offer take-out for some of their top-notch dishes in convenient bowl sizes during the evenings.
Located on corner of Pease St. I was excited they had parking until I was greeted by Marty & took my first bite. I felt like in was in Louisiana eating moms cooking 😋 & listening 🎶 to Cajun tunes. The entire time holding back the sniffles from a great seasoned meal (black-eyed peas, rice, green beans & corn) folks from Louisiana could relate & appreciate. It was so good I ordered food for 🍽 dinner.
Love this place! They have the best cajun seafood in town. The staffs are always so friendly! There always parking available. Great spot for lunch! The fried catfish is especially great! My boyfriend is a big fan! My ultimate favorite is definitely the stuffed shrimps! They are so flavorful and fresh. And the gumbo is to die for!
The gentleman that runs this place is phenomenal. He goes above and beyond every time me and the guys place an order, which is quite often. Customer service out of this world. If you pass this place and don’t stop to eat you were doing yourself a great disservice.
I met some friends for lunch today. We each drove about 35 minutes because downtown is a central location. My friends chose seafood, and I had baked chicken. We had bread pudding for dessert. Our food was good, and I will be back soon because I promised to take my aunt to lunch.
Very nice southern cajun style food. I had the jambalaya which was very flavorful and had just the right about of ingredient portioning. Once you walk in you can tell this place has a longstanding history. I would like to try a poboy next visit as they look delicious as well.
Honestly this place is great. Super friendly staff and excellent down home food. 100% worth stopping in. I tried the smothered pork chop, fried chicken, jalapeño cornbread, black eyed peas, and green beans….and nothing disappointed.
I love coming here for my Cajun fix. I’m assuming the cashier (the guy) is the owner. Fantastic customer service!! Very welcoming and cozy little spot, feels like home! Plentiful portions and always mouthwatering. Cornbread is good as well, try it out! And yes, I killed all those plates lol
Good is always piping HOOTTTTTT like I like it!
This is the fried shrimp platter with fries and jambalaya rice with the juiciest, most tender chicken ever.
I recommend the chicken and sausage gumbo here. Seafood is my favorite, but I dont like it here. The chicken is very tender and has GREAT flavor!
