This is one of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever been to.
The drinks are fresh and delicious. I had the margarita of the day with Jamaica (Hibiscus) and it was perfectly balanced.
Tuesday is Taco Tuesday and they have great deals. The meat is 1 choice only and comes in a cooking pot for you to create your own tacos.
I had the Chicken Tinga Tostadas and this was absolutely excellent. I am going to crave these from now on. Salsa is excellent and not too spicy as well.
The restaurant does not accept cash and does contactless payments.
Love the place. Authentic Mexican dishes exceptional taste . Waitresses are so kind and experienced nice atmosphere. Will absolutely go back again.
Be ready to pay $20 dollars valet parking $ 10 dollars self park across the street. And free you have to walk a few blocks
I loved everything about this place. The staff was amazing. They were so friendly and welcoming. The food wasn't pretentious and it felt like it was cooked by grandma. I was worried my chicken dish would be too spicy but it was perfect. A good amount of heat without burning your face off. The cocktails were lovely, too. I really enjoyed the whole experience.
Great Service, atmosphere. Food is very authentic yet new and fresh. Wonderful service and presentation. They will take the time to explain every dish to you if needed. We had a large party and still the service was exceptional. Highly recommend either dinner or Sunday brunch. Drinks are very very good, I had two different margaritas and each was unique and very nice in its own way.
Got the flautas, tacos chelo, quesadillas de huitlacoche, and tostaditas. Some knowledgeable friends did say the food was authentic, and there were lots of unique dishes on here. All the dishes were good shareable items. The tacos chelo were my favorite. I didn't expect the quesadillas to look like empanadas, but they were good as well (the fungus is a different taste). The margarita also had a different honey taste to it, but it was yummy!
Truly tasty and delicious central Mexico dishes. Everything we had was great. The salsas, entrees and deserts were some of the best I have ever had. My filet tips in red sauce was amazing! If you like spice... Get the habenaro crema, just go easy.

This Mexican restaurant is like a piñata of flavor in the heart of our vibrant neighborhood! It’s so unique that even the salsa can’t salsa like this place does. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a décor that screams “Fiesta, baby!”
Their menu is like a culinary adventure, with dishes that are a fusion of tradition and wild imagination.
The service is as warm and inviting as a Mexican sunset, and the atmosphere is so lively you’ll think you’re at a fiesta, even if it’s just a regular Tuesday. If you want a taste of Mexico right in the heart of our neighborhood, this place is a must-visit. Ole! 🌮🍹💃
Great spot! I usually come for brunch but I am glad to have sampled their dinner menu this time around. The cuisine here reminds me of my last trip to Mexico City plus a dash of culinary creativity.
Service: We arrived just as they opened, so it was not busy. Service was excellent. Our server was kind, knowledgeable, and intrigued us into trying menu items.
Food: Top notch. Prior to arriving, we knew we were looking for a place that served huitlacoche (corn smut, aka fungus). To our delight we had two options and tried both. Tamal de cazuela and huitacoche quesadillas. We also had sopa de tortilla, salsas de cuchara, mole Verde, and ensalada de pedalos de Rosa. We also tried their amazing margaritas. Food was fresh and vibrant with flavor. What a treat!
Atmosphere: Usually this place is very busy and loud for weekend brunch. This trip it was maybe 25% full by the time we finished in a weekday dinner service. Casual atmosphere, nice decor. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the lovely weather. They do have heaters outside as well.
I will definitely come again to further sample the menu.
Finally, I made it to this place! The food was good. The ambiance was cool. Had an incident with the children in our group, but we made the best of it! Had the michoacan carnitas. Being that I'm from michoacan, I know my carnitas! I would give the carmitas an 8 outta 10! What made the carnitas great would be the consume like juice. So good! Had the 5 leches cake and empanadas for dessert! Both 9 outta 10. A bit pricey but good quality food.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Houston. The food is fresh and always delicious. You can seriously taste the love that went into it! The margaritas are amazing, but I think it is the atmosphere and service that has captured my heart. All of the staff are incredible, especially Alejandro and Ernesto. Cheers to you for a consistently fabulous dining experience every time I've come over the past 10+ years.
Food was good but overpriced. Not a lot of vegan/vegetarian choices. The service was good but beware of their separate check policy. They will not split checks but they will charge equal amount on up to 5 cards. Which means this...we were a part of 8, 2 couples and a family of 4. They wanted to divide the total by 3. So, my friends were supposed to help me pay for my kids meals? We had to call the manager to complain about an antiquated system and he took care of it. We won't be going back there. There are too many options in Houston not to deal with silliness.
The food was absolutely delicious. I was hesitant of this place at first because it seemed to be a little expensive, but I can say now that it was worth it! The pozole rojo tasted just like the ones in Mexico City and the molletes were super yummy as well. I’ll be coming back whenever I’m craving a pozole like the ones I used to eat when I was little
First time trying cuchara and the food was delicious. We had a shareable carne asada platter everything was delicious, took one star off because they didn’t give enough tortillas for a shareable platter they were tiny. I ordered more tortillas which seemed foolish since it was a shareable meal. But the service was great and the meal was worth it
Wonderful service! Although mostly everything was delicious, my posole could have benefited from a little more salt/flavor. The valets pricing was a bit high as well $10 for parking? Surely they could charge a bit less. The guacamole was good but again could’ve used a bit more salt, I really liked that they added chicharron!
Other than that, I really enjoyed this establishment and will be back! We had a nice little table outside by the busy street and it wasn’t too loud.
The restaurant was great! chilaquiles verdes was so yummy for being in houston, I say ask for hot sauce or salsa if you do want it more spicy, and I recommend Augusto if you come by :)))
We love Cuchara!! The staff are amazing, and the food and drink are perfectly unique!
Update: We frequent Cuchara a few times a month and they never forget our faces. Service is warm and friendly, with only a few off experiences (our experience 2 days ago was a bit off. Food wasn't quite on point). I recommend any version of the tostaditas. Caught them recently when they had live singers on guitar and it was beautiful.
Old: First time back in 4 years and it was a festive environment. Was gonna eat next door but they didn't seem to want us so we came here. Everyone here was welcoming, knowledgeable, and warm. Love the vibe here. Management is friendly too and very attentive. Our food was delicious. We received recommendations from the bartender and he was spot on. Coffee and mimosas are great! Will be back.
Cuchara is a great choice if you are looking for Mexican cuisine in HTX. Here it is done right and you can expect to feel made at home by the polite staff whether you are enjoying the patio, or seated inside. The food is geared towards bringing authentic flavors from Mexico to this Montrose neighborhood bar and eatery. Brunch is a great time to pick up a plate of delicious freshly made Chilaquiles and some Cafe de Olla!
