Last Saturday night, we had dinner at one of our new neighborhood restaurants, Opa Greek Taverna. Owned and operated by the Manolakakis Family, they pride themselves in offering authentic fare from their home country. I ordered Pastitsio, baked layers of Greek pasta, Kasseri, mozzarella cheeses, and ground beef, cooked with sweet tomatoes and Mediterranean spices, and then topped with béchamel sauce. Anthony had the traditional Moussaka, seasoned to perfection. After Ms. Manolakakis layers baked eggplant, potatoes, Greek cheeses, zucchini and squash, she tops the casserole also with béchamel sauce. For dessert, we split a piece of homemade Baklava. Next time, I'm going to try the Dolmades (rolled grape leaves) and the spinach Spanakopita. With its cafe feel, Opa is not fancy, but on Friday and Saturday nights starting at 6 p.m., the family offers live Greek music and belly dancing. The restaurant is located at 14203 Jones Road, in front of Del Pueblo. The entire experience reminded me of our Port Arthur neighbors, Pete and Mary Tragelis, and their two daughters, Kathryn and Mercina. They not only taught me how to truly appreciate their culture, but they also opened my eyes to the many contributions immigrants have made to America.

I know the food is great even though I haven't visited yet. The owner had a restaurant in Alexandria Louisiana and the food was awesome and so were the owners! Fresh, authentic and so full of flavor dishes!

There’s a reason they’re rated so high by over 100+ people now. Building and such is not fancy but the food is amazing and inexpensive. Highly recommended!!!

We've been here 3 days in the last week. If that doesn't say it all, I don't know what does. We have tried: Mousakka, Lamb Shank with Orzo, Cabbage Rolls, Feta Shrimp and the Gyro as entrees. They were all a hit. For the apps, we tried the Feta, Olive Oil and Pita Bread (my personal fav) and the Hummus. Both were delish. Their sides are the Greek fries (yum!), green beans, peas and roasted potatoes. Oh, and their Baklava....hello, yummy goodness! There has not been one thing we could complain about. Vicki is the best waitress! Best part about it? It's BYOB because they don't have their license yet. Big portions and reasonably priced. It's a HIT!

Came 2 nights in a row...the food is made fresh and is authentic. Service is great and they've only been open for 2 months. This is a definite hit!

The food is delicious, their gyros are huge and they give you plenty. The first time ever I had roasted Greek potatoes can't wait to get them again.

I enjoyed a wonderful dinner here with my family. There is a variety of flavorful Greek dishes. The hummus we ordered as a starter was tasty and so were the rest of the dishes. We will be back. Service was delightful and the building was clean.

The food here is delicious! You can tell everything is fresh and made in house. We ordered the sampler for two and it was more than enough. Everything was good and hot. It was busy but the waitress was very friendly and did a great job taking care of everyone. I'll take better photos next time I go hopefully before we dig in.

Great place for lunch and the price is very affordable. The food is fresh. The pita and hummus tasted like it was handmade. The meat done perfectly with much flavor. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you’re craving Greek. Pictures is the sampler for 2.

Friendly staff and amazing food. They had traditional Greek dishes that were very tasty. Seating is limited so get there earlier than planned. We will definitely be returning.

We usually go to Niko's Niko's when we want Greek food but this place was really delicious and much easier to get to. It wasn't very busy inside so it was nice not to have to compete with others while conversing. The staff was very kind and very helpful. The chicken gyro was absolutely delicious!!!! My husband liked the lamb gyro as well. We also tried the lemon chicken soup. It was good but a little bit thick for my taste. I would definitely recommend this place and I will be back!
