I loved the fried chicken, Cole Slaw and my girls loved the Macaroni & Cheese! Everything was very delicious and was worth my drive! I most definitely recommend this place 100%!
The waitress was on time every time!

Absolutely the best fried chicken that this southern boy has ever eaten, just spicy enough that as you eat it the heat slowly creeps up on you. 😊
The Collard greens and Macaroni and Cheese are terrific, a busy little place but the great waitstaff do a really good job of keep it moving.
Tried it in Memphis this past December and was the best spicy chicken I'd ever eaten. Found out that they opened in Houston and had to make the nearly one hour drive to get my fix again. Very clean place and friendly staff! Chicken is absolutely fantastic!!!
Love , Love ,Love this fried chicken one of the best in the city! We also had the fried green tomatoes which was also wonderful. So happy this place is so close to downtown. We need more like this great food and affordable!
Chicken was great, loved the chocolate chess pie. Highly recommend if you like chicken with a little bite, it’s not super spicy.
I thourghly enjoyed my fried chicken, mac and cheese, and collard greens. The fried green tomatoes were pretty good too. Plus, our waiter apparently is in a King of the Hill tribute metal band. So, that’s pretty interesting tidbit of random information.
Some of the best fried chicken in Houston. Very friendly service. The atmosphere is laid back. The price is cheap, with quality that’s great.
Great fried chicken packed with a kick.
The food is simple yet tasty. Compared to most places the fried chicken breast here is juicier and tender with a slight crunch to the skin. So even picking the white meat, the bites are excellent.
If you like collard greens, upgrade one of your sides to it. The collard green is cooked tender with a hint of meaty taste - not greasy. Baked beans are yummy and sweet.
Happy eating
We’ve been to Gus’s a lot of time. Their food is consistent and it’s a great place for casual eats that hits the spot for 3 generations of our family.
They have an awesome 4 piece wing special with 2 sides for about $12. The kids meals are good value too and filling for our growing boys. We like they have a 2 piece drum option for kids.
Gus’s chicken has a thin flavorful crispy coating with just a slight kick to it. My husband always gets the fried okra and potato salad. My go to is fried green tomatoes, 3 piece dark meal, and a warm pecan pie with ice cream on the side so it doesn’t become a puddle on the plate.
Can’t wait to go back!
Literally best fried chicken I’ve had in while. It tastes like a home cooked meal and felt like a warm hug. My boyfriend and I got the 4 piece tender meal with the red beans and rice and coleslaw. For desert, we tried the sweet potato pie and the chess pie. Both were delicious and tasted homemade. Would definitely recommend and absolutely coming back 👍
And here is outstanding it reminds me of my mothers, but it actually has some flavor! Very crispy I ordered two dark meat pies they were cooked perfectly. The coleslaw was similar to KFC, but tasted actually more fresh baked beans were regular old baked beans didn’t make my stocks go up and down but I thought they were pretty good Ice tea was outstanding and I read a lot of ice tea so if it’s outstanding, I mean you got to try this place awesome stuff great fried chicken I’m glad I found it so that’s cool. Our servers name was Ray and she was outstanding very kind very helpful refilled my tea without even me asking wonderful service here!
Love everything about this place! Parking is tight, but not all the time, and there’s plenty of street parking. They’re originally from Kentucky, where we know they do chicken right. Ask for extra crispy, and definitely go hot if you can handle it. If not, you’ll still love it. Fantastic stuff. Never fails to hit.
The service is pretty good, the chicken is good, but it was tougher/drier than expected, I would prefer that it was dripping with sauce. The only real issues at this location is the limited parking and the food is a bit slow coming out. That said, I did like it, but there are other places to go to before returning.
We had a great experience today at Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken. The parking lot is narrow with tight spots. Once you walk in, sit anywhere you like. Someone will come to the table and take your order. The food comes out right away. Not sure how they do it, but the chicken is light, fried to absolute perfection, not greasy and stays piping hot the entire time. I enjoyed a two piece white meat snack with a side of greens and potato salad. And my husband had a two piece dark meat, same sides. Great flavor. Would eat here again. Just a side note. On Astros game day, get there early. After the game was over, it got packed!
When a restaurant calls itself world famous, it's either going to be trash or amazing. There is no in between. This was amazing. The best fried chicken I've ever had. Period. And the best fried okra, too.
The building is very hot, so be sure to wear your most comfortable pair of jorts.
I walked in here thinking this would be like you know regular chicken joint on Washington Avenue in Houston, if you know anything about the area, you know what I’m talking about. I was greeted at the door by Denae L., Who told me to take a seat and she would’ve be there to take my order, i’m like other restaurants that was something that happened in under two minutes, wow.
The menu isn’t that hard to read or drowning with pages upon pages of items, it’s simple chicken. I put in my order, and in under five minutes, it was being brought to my table. I was surprised and shocked. It’s rare to get serviced this fast, it’s rare to get your food this fast. Somebody in the kitchen is on it.
After I had finished my first plate, I asked for a side of mac & cheese, it’s good . And then, as I was getting ready to pack up, I was offered dessert, being that I don’t read the menus that thoroughly or flip to the back page. I didn’t know they had dessert. I was offered pecan pie and ice cream, and was happily blown away.
Should you ever be on Washington Avenue near downtown and you happen to come across Gus’s fried chicken stop in it’s worth it.
Man the chicken had just the perfect blend of seasoning and spice! Side of Macaroni & Cheese was truly enjoyable. You won't be disappointed.
Our server was ELMA and she was Terrific 💯
My gf & I always ran by here multiple times but never stopped inside. Until now, it was delicious, small but quiet, & great service. Our waitress was Angie, a young girl from Honduras. Excellent service!!!
Went on a Saturday night, 10 min before close. Spent $37 for 2 plates and fried pickles. Atmosphere is nice. Staff suggested visiting between 3PM-6PM for quiet, quality dining.
Fried Pickles were amazing!! 10/10
Collard Greens 10/10
Mac & Cheese 6/10 (needs more seasoning and/or salt & pepper)
Chicken 6/10 (Juicy but crust wasn’t crispy)
Would I go again? Yes.
Best fried chicken I’ve had in forever!!! Waitress’s was very nice an courteous. I had the half chicken. With potato salad an Mac n cheese. Wife had tenders an dbl fries. Plus we tried the fried Okra. Everything was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Wish I lived around here to come back everyday.
Good quality juicy chicken. Has a very homely vibe. That being said, I think it is overrated or perhaps franchising has done that. Chicken needs more flavoring and has very minimal batter.
This place is amazing! Great, fresh food with tons of flavor. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and has a nice spice to it but it’s not overwhelming. The greens are tender and flavorful. The slice of buttermilk pie (with ice cream) was the best I’d had from a non bakery place. Definitely treat yourself to a slice. Rae was a great server and very friendly! If you like southern style fried chicken and fixin’s definitely stop by.

We love Gus's.
Anthony and his staff work hard to make this a great favorite go-to place.
Everything awesome, including fried green tomatoes with Ranch dressing.
Fresh, hot, spicy southern inspired food done right.
Chicken was delicious. Mildly spicy, super crispy/crunchy. Perfect temperature. Fries were good. Recommend the sweet tea, sweet potato pie, and highly recommend the chocolate chess pie (warm).
Not only is the chicken WORLD FAMOUS, buts probably the best fried chicken I’ve ever had! Consistently great tasting food, sides and beverages along with great service! The staff is always nice and friendly!
