Finally found a good soul food restaurant. Even though I had to drive a distance to get it, it was well worth the drive.
My husband and I visited this restaurant as we were travelling through Houston to Galveston. We absolutely loved the food and service. We highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning.

My favorite place to eat when I'm in Houston. The food is great and the so are the people.
We went there in a wimp and it didn't disappoint .. from the fried chicken, smothered porkchops, etoufee, to the yams, red beans and rice everything was delicious .. and so much food we all took to go boxes. Staff was very friendly and helpful .. we will definitely be back 👍👍
Everything was perfect. I had oxtails over rice, very good. Service was excellent. Black cherry Kool-aid made the perfect touch to the soul food dinner.
I had the pleasure of getting the oxtail plate with mac n cheese, greens, and yams! The taste was delicious, seasoning was perfect and the price was very affordable ! I will be back on Monday for lunch!!😋😋😋
Baked chicken was fall off the bone tender and moist. Everything had a great flavor bouquet. It was very filling; I had to stop about 3/4 in.
I was visiting Houston and desperately wanted some soul food before traveling back home. My daughter and son-in-law highly recommended we visit Esther's. We were NOT disappointed! They offer a wide selection and dish up heaping portions of their tasty menu. Fried chicken. Peppered steak. Smothered pork chops. Oxtails. Collards. Okra. Black-eyed peas. Candied yams. Mac-n-cheese. Homemade cakes and cobbler. I could go on and on! The prices are on point (we spent $150 for seven people - with free drink refills), and the superb service was given with smiles from the staff. We didn't get a chance to meet Esther but hope to do so when we visit again. If you are visiting Houston or are even a native, GO! GO! GO!!!

Esther's is well known in the Acres Homes/Studewood communities as one of THE best black owned soul food restaurants in town. The atmosphere is great, from indoor outdoor seating to the home flair interior with a touch of elegance. You're greeted with a smile, and let's not forget the lines that await you to get to the food galore (you better get there early) or the grandmas kitchen aroma. The food is amazing, and the deserts are good. Make your way to Shepherd, drive, and try it for yourself.
Been hearing how awesome this place has been so I decided to give it a try. The food was on point. Everything tasted homemade and I didn't get the itis afterwards! I went during lunch so there wasn't much of a push for atmosphere but the primary reason we go out to eat is to eat, so you'll enjoy it. The inside was a bit cold so we ate on the patio. The food is well seasoned and not oversaturated with salt. I'll be back again and again!
The food is amazing. My husband wanted soul food for his birthday dinner so we came here. Everything was seasoned to perfection.
First time here. Came with coworkers who suggested it.
Nice place, clean and open. Food served cafeteria style. Lots of good options. Looked and smelled good. The staff was friendly and fast. Beverages are self serve. I got the meatloaf served on rice with okra and mac n cheese.
You get nice size portions, I could not finish mine. You should not leave hungry. Food was good, well seasoned and hot.
I am sure I will be back again some day soon.
I have to say this Restaurant is made with Family Love and Great Food. I Got A Chance To Meet Lonnie one Of The Owners and He Made My Day Feel Special. This was my birthday week and going here spending time with my family eating some good soul food made it even more special. I didn’t get the fish because it wasn’t out but as soon as it came out Lonnie gave me a complimentary piece and it was good, the strawberry cake was so moist. They give you so big portions of food so your money is well spent. Esther’s Soul food delightful. The dressing was so good even though I had some For Thanksgiving but one taste of their dressing I glad I got some. When Lonnie explained how the restaurant came about and how his family started the business I know my money was well spent. It makes me feel good to support black owned business, I don’t mind spending my money on a restaurant who cares about who comes in their restaurant. And service The Food Is Good And The Service. Thanks I feel at home and will be back again. Thanks for Your Hospitality Everything was Great.
I just moved to Houston and my friend for a visit. He said he wanted some soul food. I found this restaurant and oh boy did it deliver. The atmosphere is good and cozy, the food is Sunday dinner delicious, and the service was great. The atmosphere makes you feel like family. I will be back.
This place doesn't need reviews, it's the type of place you need to bring your mom to try it and hope she doesn't get offended by how good it is. Instantly in my top 3, you can tell every single thing they make was made with love, I plan to try it all.
First time visiting this restaurant and I was highly satisfied by the customer service and food!! The oxtail was so tender and delicious! The food portions are also worth the price! I will definitely visit here again next time I visit Houston!
Visited with a party of 8 and the atmosphere was inviting, the staff was pleasantly nice and speedily served us. The food was flavorful, the cake was deliciously moist, Best cornbread. Some parts were just a tad off and under temperature. The aesthetics were gorgeous you have many options to sit. The entrance is a bar and TV, a beautiful dine-in area, or spacious outdoor dining with background photo ops. We sat outside near the side building where there is an order pick-up window. It gets busy. I would give it a try.
Had about 60 of us Retired folks from Central Freight Lines a little reunion. Their food is just like Moma would have cooked it. Excellent Service and they treated us like Family
In the city for business and the wife was hungry so we decided to give this wonderful establishment a try. Overall the mesl was good and provided good portion fir the price. The chicken was crispy but need a touch more seasoning and the fish was over-seasoned. Definitely worth a return trip if in the area.
