Plenty of parking, comfortable, courteous prompt service, huge menu, terrific portions of great food, reasonably priced and a great owner/chef.
This is a hidden Gem, the food is wonderful. I have had a couple of problems when there is a large unexpected crowd, the kitchen slows way down, but that to me means the food is being prepared then not at 9am.
I have eaten there for lunch twice and dinner about 4 times, the food has always been very very good.
It is a different style than the everyday Tex Mex.
The wait staff is always friendly and act like they are glad you are there.
Great Lunch! Recommended!. We stopped in for a late lunch after running errands on the west side of town. We tried the enchiladas verdes, beef fajita tacos, and chicken tacos. All were very good. Service was excellent, and prices were quite reasonable. We will definitely go back!

All these positive reviews aren't messing around. The food is great and a great value. The Fish El Gallo is the favorite of many of my friends! I think this place is on its way up, and it's only a matter of time until it looks as good as it tastes.
The food is excellent and you can't beat the service. And, if you're lucky, Mr. Chavez will come out and visit with you.
So glad we found this cafe. Food was very good and staff were wonderful. This place needs advertising. It's a hidden gem. We had beef fajita, El Jefe, El Guero. Tortillas were great!

Love it! The food was great, good quality. I liked the environment, and the service was good. I been there twice. The first time, I tried a chicken salad, and the second time, we ordered fajitas to go, and the portions were good!
First time here and long time mexican food lover. I have had tex mex all over Houston and this is one of the best I have had. I ordered the La Alma and man was it good. From the salsa to the main dish to the service, all around 100%. Will be back.
Definitely some of the best Mexican food that I’ve had! I had the Gallito Shrimp with Corn tortillas and it was delicious. The sauce was packed with so much flavor and complimented the seafood perfectly. The salsa and margaritas were good as well. To top it off I received great service! I will be back!
Chavez is always amazing. It is my best friend and I's favorite place to go. Their chips and salsa is delicious as is their enchiladas with mole. The waiters know our orders and have been there a long time. The owner is always nice and welcoming and we see him almost every time we go in. Definitely a must try. Great food. Great service!
Chavez Mexican Cafe is a top favorite for us. Lunch or dinner are both great. The service is always amazing. The drinks are good. If you have room, I would recommend trying one of their desserts. If you're in the area or not, it's worth the visit.
A very good Mexican restaurant located on Gessner Street in Spring Branch.
This is a very large restaurant with a separate bar area. They also have 2 private seating areas for large groups.
The dining area and restrooms are very clean and sanitized.
The dining area is decorated very nicely.
As soon as I parked my vehicle outside in the parking lot I could smell the beef fajitas.
I ordered the El Rico. The platter includes a cheese enchilada, a cubed portion of Carnitas, served with rice and refried beans. The meal is also served with 2 large hand made flour tortillas and chips with 2 salsas.
The food was very fresh and delicious.
I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great place and very reasonably priced. We had dinner for two with 3 drinks and tipped 25% for under $50. The staff was attentive and friendly, not once did I have to ask for anything. The server and his support were on it.
I returned more recently and the food is still consistently great. Both salsas are awesome. Service was so-so but it was a busy day. I'm glad to see this location doing well after the one near us closed.
The price is trending on the higher side for us so we have to limit how often we go.
If you don't know what to try when you go here, I highly recommend the El Jefe (pictured, $15). You get a little bit of everything and it's all great.
Two words “Made in America😂” The food is homemade and very tasty. If I lived closer I would have dinner here. The beans and rice are great! The main dishes they serve are fantastic!! So far I haven’t been disappointed at this place. Awesome spot for good Tex-Mex dinning.
Very sad hw6 location shut down. It was a spot that me and my wife had found years ago. Glad that this location holds up there quality. 10/10
