Most restaurants don't survive 50+ years in the same location. This iconic Mexican eatery has though. It's simple façade and no frills menu has stood the test of time here in Spring Branch. My family have been dining here since 1971(the year it was established). If you're looking for modern, elevated, artfully plated fare, this isn't the place. But if you want AUTHENTIC, no-frills food, you'll love El Gallo!! The staff are as genuine as the enchiladas.. Stop by to find out why this place has been survived where others have failed.

El Gallo has been around since 1971. First thing I noticed as I sat enjoying my chips and salsa was the amount of regulars in the restaurant. The waiters knew the customers by first name. Right away I knew why it was successful for a long time. The chips are very good. Thin and crispy and go perfectly with the salsa. The salsa is light but tasty. It's not overpowered with salt and other seasonings. The charro beans were decent. But the rice! Rice was too notch. Fluffy and moist. It was perfect. The tacos were good too. The meat was seasoned perfectly and soft. The flour tortilla was a little undercooked. But overall, I was very happy with this place and I would recommend it.

A Spring Branch thing. Great for large or small gathering. Also excellent to go. Always DELICIOUS, great service with a home away from home atmosphere.

Went on Saturday evening, wasn't crowded at all. The food came out quickly, Rice and beans were hot, and fresh, with lots of flavor. The grilled chicken was okay. Lacked some flavor. Would've liked some bell peppers along with more onions on my grilled chicken asada.

I like this place. It is a hidden gem in the area. I always drove by till finally tried it and I wasn't disappointed. The beef fajitas was really good. I highly recommend this one.

Local Tex Mex served by some of the most friendliest, kindest folks. Waitstaff is always doing a great job here. The food is tasty, you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The queso here is a must order.

Fast, friendly service. Classic atmosphere. Food came out quickly and was nice and hot. My cheese enchiladas were perfect, really good beans and rice too. Tried a bite of my friends fajita enchilada, it was so tender and delicious I am getting fajitas next time! Good prices, too. Best Tex-Mex I have had in a while! Will be back :)

Skip the well known Houston institutions and make this your primary stop. The enchiladas are the best I have ever had. The cheese and and exceptional sauce are like nothing I have ever had. The chips and salsa are excellent, although the salsa is different from others, it is an unexpected delight. As a bonus, don’t forget the grand gold margarita.

Longggg time customer . Know family and owner. George was a very good person. Also went to same church. Excellent food, nice& friendly staff, good margaritas, excellent cheese enchiladas. Family gave my daughter her first hostess job. And agree with all your other customers glass always full, chip bowl never empty, and also we’ve learned a little Spanish. 😊. DJ B
