Been going to Treebeards since 1985. Still as delicious as ever. Plate of choice is Rookie with red beans all the way and chicken and sausage gumbo. No visit to Treebeards is complete without butter cake.

Lunch is always excellent! I really enjoyed the fresh vegetables and homemade cake! I am very sad that there was not a sign announcing that all the paintings were done by teachers from City Art Works and all of them are for sale! People just rushed in to eat and didn’t even look at the paintings!

It's veggie beans over dirty rice with cheese & chives, & 1/4 bottle of Treebeards Cajun sauce for me!

The red beans with sausage link are fantastic! The jambalaya is good but not great. The fried fish is delicious! The bread pudding is AMAZING (forgot this pic)! Their dirty rice (forgot this pic) is good and needs to be an option to put in the yummy red beans. Not overly enthusiastic about the cornbread, they need to make one that doesn't have onions and jalapenos, but rather just sugar to be sweet inside of the beans (hope they implement immediately). Will go again.

Drove 30 miles to eat here for my birthday today. Totally worth it. Doesn't matter what you get, everything is delicious! But if you like carrot cake, get it. Amazing!

Awesome place! Very glad they are open on Saturdays for lunch. I especially loved the bread pudding, save room for it! Friendly and helpful staff, Good quality ingredients and great flavors in a casual cafe style atmosphere in a wonderful location. The upstairs party room was impressive too. I loved my whole meals except for the cornbread: it was too dry and bland for my tastes but everything else was great.

It's been years since I've been in the area but traveling down memory lane we had to get the shrimp etoufee and of course some red beans n rice with sausage...oh yeaaaahhhhh, why don't ya toss in the jalapeno cornbread, carrot cake, butter cake and Italian creme cake! My personal favorites were the shrimp etoufee and butter cake! So, so very good!

Treebeards is one of those restaurants that Houston needs more of. It has character, comfort and casual while providing a simple menu with good food. I haven’t been to all of the treebeards in the downtown area; however, I would suspect that there is a similarity but a uniqueness to each one. Treebeards, harkening back to days of being a soup kitchen for the homeless, serves red beans and rice with sausage and a number of solid but simple meals for the southern pallet. All are served cafeteria style. Don’t worry there is plenty of seating and don’t forget the bread pudding with bourbon sauce. It’s one of their specialties and people come from all over to have the bread pudding. It isn’t downtown oasis of comfort and reasonably priced food.

Being from Louisiana I am pretty critical of many cajun restaurants, but I was pleasantly surprised with the food here. The duck gumbo, cornbread, and red beans and rice with sausage were all delicious. I will definitely return.

Tree beards is a delightful refuge for those seeking great food downtown. It’s ambiance of casual comfort amidst the hurry and hustle of downtown Houston makes it a jewel among many. The gumbo, grilled chicken and red beans and rice are notable. The staff is absolutely the best.

Interesting name, don't you think? I'm a sucker for Cajun food. What an experience. Try out the fried green tomatoes if you like, they are outstanding!

The food is great and the staff is friendly. Make sure to leave room for dessert. If not, take a slice or two to go. It's that good!

Fairly good. I had stuffed pork chops and my husband had meatloaf... I would suggest the meatloaf of anything!
