The best hands down Hiram Clarke gem. This is the best Jamaican food in town ...... try the curry lobster
Awesome authentic Jamaican food. So glad we came across this restaurant. Helen and Darnell were very welcoming, made us feel like we've known them forever. Got a combination plate cause I just couldn't make up my mind. Lol. The oxtails were flavorful and tender and the jerk chicken was cool to perfection and tasty. Love the jerk spice. Can't say enough good things. We will return for more.
Love the staff and the food!! I highly recommend it!!
Great food! Curried goat is amazing and the owners are hilarious and wonderful. Thank you thank you! We will be back.
One of Houston's best kept secrets!

One of the most outstanding place to sit in and dine, friendly and professional services. ..I'll go there anytime.
The food was amazing! Helen and her husband are just super nice people too!
Good service every time I go thanks Helen and her husband for great food and service
The parking was tight & limited but the food was good & piping hot & I love that for me. 5 stars for that. Everything was seasoned well. I ordered the 2 meat combo.. curry chicken & oxtails. My 3 sides were rice & beans, curry mash potatoes, & cabbage.
But I ordered plantains & they gave me the cabbage instead. I dined-in so when I bought it to her attention, she said they ran out. I think that’s something I should’ve been informed of & I should’ve been the one deciding on what to substitute it with, not her. How do you know I even like cabbage?
Thankfully I do so I didn’t make a big deal out of it but for future reference, if you’re out of a particular dish, let the customer know so they can substitute it for something THEY like. Don’t take it upon yourself to substitute for whatever YOU please.
So let me start by saying that I’m a BIG oxtail fan & I will absolutely be going back to Helen’s K for more. The vegetables were well cooked & paired great with the meat & rice. My mom loved the plantain & rice&peas. Also, it was our first time there so we were looking over the menu for quite some time, we did not feel rushed & were able to think about what exactly we wanted to try. It may sound basic but I hate feeling pressured & the cashier was so polite!! Food was reasonably priced too, can’t wait to try some other dishes ! ❤️🔥
Ox Tail and Curry Chicken meals were very good and in large portions (left some for later). I'm always skeptical of new places, and this one defeated my skepticism with plain and simply good food. It really felt like a home-cooked meal. PS, try the beef patty if you ever go there, very tasty.
Ordered the Lg oxtail and side of festival! On 8/27, the young man taking orders handled the long line and some rude customers with ease and a smile. The food I ordered was on point. The oxtail was seasoned well and tender falling off the bone.
Easily a hidden GEM! I love the oxtail plate! The rice is always fresh & cabbage is so good.
I know online it says they are closed on Sunday. But they are open! My favorite Sunday dish.
They hype is very real. This is the BEST OXTAIL I've ever had in my life. They're so tender and fall off the bone juicyyyy. They're a bit fatty but that is my favorite part. Me tell no lie everything on this plate was amazing. The greens were nice and seasoned with a touch of vinegar to set them off! The plantains were the perfect texture and paired well with everything. The rice and peas are spot on! The Curry mash potatoes are also to die forrrr! You can tell they put a lot of love into this cooking. It is in my opinion the best Jamaican cuisine in Houston. The building looks a little rough, but that is one the key signs that the food is about to bet amazingggg. I'm am on my way now to get me another order of this masterpiece. Thank you madame Helen!
ONE LOVE
I’m starting this review while waiting on my food, I bought the last pattie because I came about 20-25 minutes before she closed. And the patty was sooooooo good I think it was a veggie one but you can definitely tell it was homemade! Her son was very polite while he took my order and told us about the menu.
THE PLATE GOOD AS HELL & she’s not stingy with portions will be back!
Food was great! No wait staff, so you order your food at the register & served in To Go containers. Coco Bread was so good.. like the best yeast roll you've ever eaten! They take a lot of phone orders, so it'll take a while to get your food & they were out of a few items being 7pm. Large portion is enough for leftovers
Truly a hidden Gem. Islander comfort food at its finest! I spent 5 years of my youth in the Caribbean and get a craving for Oxtails or Garlic Shrimp at least once a month. This place truly cooks authentic Jamaican, flavors on point great portions, and just amazing food. I live in Sugar Land and been here 3 times in the past two months. Trust me, it does not disappoint.
I had an opportunity to stop by Helen's and pickup some food. I called in and ordered some jerk wings, veggie patties, a veggie roti, plantains, rice & peas, and a sour soup. Everything was ready when I arrived. We really enjoyed the food. My family absolutely loved the jerk wings and it took me two days to eat the roti. It was absolutely huge. Definitely looking forward to the next visit.
The food is incredibly delicious. The staff was very relatable, perhaps it’s a family run restaurant. If you’re looking for tender oxtails falling off the bone delicious then look no further. My husband enjoyed the brown stew chicken and beef pattie too.
I moved away from Houston 5 years ago, but I still have fond memories of Helen's Kitchen. Amazing food and awesome portion sizes. Can't wait to revisit soon
Purchased the curry and brown stew chicken with rice and peas, cabbage and plantains. Also two veggie patties. Everything was DELICIOUS!!!!! I will definitely be BACCCCKKKK.
I had Snapper in brown gravy with cabbage, beans and rice. It was delicious, although a little pricey at $30. My friend had been wings and said that it was very good as well. It's small inside with a few tables and the parking lot is small. I recommend this place.
