First date after our baby was born and it was definitely worth it. We got to take part in the Chef’s Counter experience which was a 7 course meal curated to a max group of 6 people. The food was amazing and each dish was presented to us by the chef who made it. The staff was super friendly and made the dining experience a lot of fun.
Personally one of my favorite brunch spots in Houston.
Special shoutouts to Wednesday & Andrew for their excellent service.
Things I enjoy eating.
The crab cake hush puppies.
The swordfish.
The deviled eggs.
Shoot. Everything I’ve had so far has been delicious and devoured.
If you are looking for a nice, quiet but lively brunch spot with a lot of visual appeal I would definitely suggest this place.
Service is wow!!! From the waitress to the servers everyone is so attentive and nice. We started off with a peach salad, a very unique taste so it is a must try! Also the ravioli a very unique taste with corn filled and pepitas, had never had anything like that before. The fried eggplant was delicious!! Not a fan of eggplant but the crisp and sauce gave it an extra twist! I had the pork (since I don’t eat seafood) and it was very flavorful! My husband had the fish and oysters (the ones from Canada which are more salty where his favorite)! Definitely a must try if you are in Houston! Forgot to mention the dessert! The best dessert I have had in HOUSTON!!!
My son liked bolognese pasta. It wasn't salty and the sauce was really deep. It's not in the picture, but the grilled octopus was delicious and the oysters were fresh. Don't miss pecan ice cream for dessert.
So this place never disappoints and we’ve been coming over a year and it’s one of my top 3 restaurants in Houston! My favorite thing is the attention to detail when it comes to the marriage of ingredients to make some of the most amazing tasting dishes. The chef has carefully placed a unique spin to some of the classic home cooked dishes while respecting and honoring the culture and roots of each dish. After having the cheesy grits I said the chef must be from Alabama because that first bite took me back when I ate some cheesy grits in Alabama. The ambiance is classy, southern and cozy and you are always greeted like family and on your way out a delightful ginger Whoopi pie is offered for Free!!! Who does that in Houston??? Manager George is so personable and the entire staff is awesome!!
Came here to celebrate our anniversary and this restaurant truly made our night extra special! First of all, the atmosphere was airy, elevated but not pretentious at all. The staff were some of the most attentive and welcoming of all. They know the menu very well and give excellent recommendations. For starters, their complimentary dinner roll was delicious, accompanied by their house made butter. We also ordered crab fingers, hush puppies, a side of fries, and roasted oysters as appetizers. Crab fingers were fresh and fun to eat. The hush puppies were a bit sweet for my taste, even without power sugar. But my partner ended up liking it with the powder sugar. So it worked out that our waiter suggested in the first place to put powder sugar on the side for us. The peanut on the roasted oysters were a nice surprise but the overall taste and texture of the oysters fell a bit short. The bearnaise sauce accompanying the fries was perfect, though the fries were lacking the crisp texture. Then for entrees, we had pork jowl and filet mignon. The pork jowl was 10/10 and I highly recommend it for pork lovers. The flavor and texture of the pork were of perfect execution. The filet mignon was also delicious according to my partner, though the mashed potatoes wasn’t his favorite. But the minor issues of the dishes were more than made up by the staff taking notice and making sure that our feedback was noted. We concluded our dinner with two desserts, namely Texas pecan ball and blueberry pudding cake. The pecan ball really showcased chef’s perfect execution of the texture. Crunchy pecan and velvety chocolate on the outside with the vanilla ice cream on the inside. Overall one of the best dining experiences and we will come back for more!
This place is always consistent. Happy hour oysters is a must.
I often come here just for their desserts. Any of their seasonal pudding cake (if you can catch the toffee one, my god so good trying to convince them they don’t need to rotate flavors and keep this one!) and the TEXAN PECAN BALL! The flavors and execution of this dessert is top notch. The caramelized pecans, the hot fudge, the ice cream and the texture of the cake is divine. You seriously won’t regret it!!!!!!
I went there with a private group with a room to ourselves. It was phenomenal! We had a limited menu to make it work for the group. My "appetizer" was a very large piece of octopus. I really don't think I've ever had octopus unless it was fried and even that I don't remember it. However, this octopus, tasted like steak and had the consistency of steak! I highly recommend it, and I would get it again! I believe my main course was prime rib. I'm sure this is sacrilegious to the prime rib fanatic, but I would prefer mine a little closer to medium than to rare. That being said, it was delicious and I ate it all! The topper was dessert which was a huge ball of vanilla ice cream on top of a brownie, drizzled in chocolate! I've been trying to skip desert if I could, but this was way too tempting and I ate it all, also! The servers were very attentive and personable. This is what fine dining is supposed to be!
A fantastic upscale dining experience with exceptional atmosphere and an attentive welcoming staff. The red fish is not to be missed and highly recommended. I want to reiterate how exemplary the staff was for our visit as we entertained visitors from Germany.
My husband and I visited state of grace in Houston, Texas last spring and I cannot wait to dine there again someday. The elevated dining experience starts when you arrive with valet parking and coat check. When you make your entry into the restaurant it is dark and candle lit with perfect vibes. I ordered the strawberry fields cocktail to start and it was beautiful. I highly recommend ordering the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp are massive. Everything was delicious from start to finish. Upon leaving they offered us tiny home made cookies and were so friendly. State of grace has thought of everything and I recommend making reservations for your trip to Houston.
Dominique truly made this date night an experience. We have been to Michelin star restaurants and he is at that level. Amazing food drinks and experience. Highly recommend. Valet was very nice as well.

I've been here before and thought it was great then. This night we randomly decided to show up here because my husband wanted the chicken dish. He loved it. I ordered the pansotti, which is a seasonal ravioli dish with corn and jalapeños. It was amazing. Super flavorful. I loved it. We also ordered the tagliatelle cacio e pepe, it was average. For dessert we got the peach cobbler. It was a delicious ending to our dinner. The service is wonderful here.
What a wonderful first time experience! Our server, Sarah, was wonderful! Attentive and polite throughout the service! The oysters were fantastic and the entrees were also very tasty!
Had a birthday party here for my wife. The service was outstanding. Food was phenomenal. If you are looking for some real comfort food with a twist, this is your spot!!
Chose this place to celebrate our tenth anniversary. First time here and it did not disappoint. Matthew & Connor were the best waiters. The simple seafood tower is a must! We ordered the tagliatelle & the redfish on the half shell…delicious!
"State of Grace offers an exquisite dining experience that flawlessly blends Southern charm with upscale German elegance. The ambiance is a perfect balance of modern and classic, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The menu boasts a diverse range of dishes, each meticulously crafted with locally-sourced ingredients, resulting in a symphony of flavors that delight the palate. The attentive and knowledgeable staff enhance the overall experience, guiding guests through the menu and suggesting wine pairings that complement the dishes perfectly. From the first bite to the last, State of Grace captures the essence of German-Texan cuisine while adding its own sophisticated twist, making it a culinary destination that leaves a lasting impression."
This is quite a tiny little gem that has incredible food! I was able to go with a bunch of friends so we literally pretty much ordered everything on the menu. The salad was incredible and had such a full flavor. The red fish on the half shell was so tasty as well it literally melted off the half shell. We tried all the desserts and my favorite was the pecan dessert but they were all delicious! I would highly recommend going here and be willing to try it all because this place does not disappoint! 10/10 recommend this place!
Made a dinner reservation at the recommendation of several friends, and the experience delivered on every front. Comfortable atmosphere, attentive service, great cocktails, and an incredible menu. We were fortunate to stumble upon oyster happy hour, and managed to try the hush puppies, squash pansotti, steak, and kimchi collards. I can honestly say there was no clear favorite, as every bite was flavorful and delicious in its own way. Highly recommended, and would definitely come back every time we find ourselves back in the city.
Hello beautiful people. So let me start out by saying as soon as you drive up you are greeted. As soon as walk-in you are greeted and acknowledged and the vibe in this place was very well thought out so much that when I walk in I’m taken to a wealthy European country side home. Such elegance and detail every where you look. Personnel is fabulous and management is on top of their game checking in periodically. Wait staff knowledgeable concerning every ingredient and the menu options. Now let’s dig into the menu. For starters the octopus was phenomenal and so tender. The waiter suggested the blue crab hush puppies and I’m thinking how delicious or different could they possibly be but…. They definitely came with a much unexpected crunchy, sweet and savory bite. My brother in law ordered a side of French fries and I never order fries because I think what a waste of calories in some fried potatoes but these fries are not your average Joe fries. Seasoned and fried to perfection. We started with the only cooked oysters which are not part of the happy hour menu but they were out of this world and so worth it. We ordered and shared a couple of entrees since most of the menu for dinner is set up to be shareable. The Gulf shrimp, are large pieces of shrimp seasoned and cooked just right, the beet salad had just enough texture and savory, the scallops were delicious and cooked just right and last but not least the half herb chicken was my favorite. We ordered a side of spaghetti squash and it was ok but nothing out of this world. All in all we enjoyed our experience will definitely come back. I do suggest to make reservation if you are going for dinner , lunch or brunch. We try to eat dinner before 6pm so we usually miss the rush and you can just walk in if it’s not too busy. They also have several rooms and a good size bar. Lastly I would like to point out that every customer at the end of that delectable filling meal on their way out are offered a cream filled ginger snap! I’m speechless. UPDATE: came in with sobre friends for brunch on Saturday and they did not disappoint. Had a little bit of everything and we ate every single crumb.
