My first time there and all I can say is everything from the wait staff to the food was amazing. It was 10 mind before they closed when we walked in and we were treated like it was their grand opening day. I never seen anyone till their eyes because it was quitting time it was completely 100% the best customer service ever. The food was fresh and cooked to perfection and served hot like it should be. Keep up the amazing work guys. June 29, 2018.
Seriously legit smoked BBQ and the nicest staff ever.
The brisket is tender and smokey and delicious. We tried several if the sides and I can say they were all good. The vinegar slaw stands out along with the corn pudding.
Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
My husband and I had City BBQ cater our wedding with approximately 150 guests. We chose the “All-Inclusive Reception”, which included an appetizer station (ribs and vegetables), a meat carving station (brisket and pork), a mashed potato bar, a salad bar, a rustic tea/lemonade stand, a s’mores bar, and custom mason jars. We upgraded the plates and added a side of baked beans. Michelle gave us a 20% military discount to thank my husband for his service. Michelle also surprised us on our wedding day with free hot chocolate, because the weather was cooler than expected. From the first day I met Michelle, she was extremely professional and easy to work with. She let my mother pickup the mason jars early and brought me an apron to wear to make sure I didn’t get bbq sauce on my wedding dress! During the reception, Michelle personally asked my immediate family if they needed anything. I quickly rattled off an order and Michelle returned to the room promptly with exactly what I asked for. I cannot say enough good things about City BBQ Catering and Michelle Hickman. We received many compliments on the food and the presentation. I highly recommend City BBQ Catering.
Loved it and the banana pudding is the bomb good food everyone needs too try it best barbecue in townme and my family enjoyed our self
Our first time was today. What an experience! As we approached the doors the smell of BBQ smoke was intoxicating! Mmmm! Since this was our first time, we were slow on ordering bc we were reading the menu in its entirety. I mentioned to the cashier, who was patiently waiting for us, that we were first timers. With a friendly smile, she handed us a black bag that had a container of their signature rub in it, a coupon and something else. (I didnt look all the way through it yet lol) We moved on down the line after we paid and was greeted by a gentleman who was super friendly and personable! (Its so hard to find good customer service these days, this was a breath of fresh air.) He noticed the black bag and knew we were first timers, he offered us each 2 free sides to try! We picked our additional sides, thanked him, and went and sat down to devour this incredible feast! Thats when he came out with a sharable order of loaded fries for us! Wow!
Hands down, THE BEST BBQ we have tried! And trust me when I say, we have tried MANY. City BBQ was the perfect trifecta of Great Food, Great Customer Service and a Great Atmosphere!
Thank you for an incredible experience! Top Notch in my book! Keep up the hard work...it IS noticed. ;)
I ate there forb the first time ever on Friday night the food reminded me of the rodeo in texas when i was small they always had the best bbq. City bbq was absalutely delicious and affordable. The greens and corn pudding and potato salad were so good.. The meats were yummy . only thing take the fat off the pork and beef and the skinn off the turkey . i happen to like that part lol...but I'm old school... Great food! Oh and the sausage mmmmm
Coming from NC where BBQ is the best, this place matches ours. Everything is fresh, homemade, seasoned correctly even for us southerners. Staff were very friendly. Will definitely be back! Thanks for the positive atmosphere
Cecil (front) and Pride (kitchen) provided some of the best service ever given at this location. We always enjoy the food here but tonight it was the upbeat attitude and cheerful service these 2 employees demonstrated that made the evening. Thank you for the experience
Cecil was absolutely outstanding!!! Can’t say enough about the wonderful service that Cecil and Pride gave. Absolutely amazing food!!!!

I just came from Houston, Tx. One thing I missed the most is Texas barbecue brisket. City Barbecue hands down can compete with Texas. Just perfection...
Every time we come down to indy to Riley’s Children’s Hosp we stop here best in the area I also ask my Masonic Brothers to Check them out
BBQ is just okay—nothing really to write home about... However the sides are AMAZING. Hush puppies, fries, potato salad, green beans, Mac n cheese... These are all sides that I have found to be great. I haven't had the time to try all of the sides they offer there, but of all of those that I have tried, I haven't been disappointed. Sweet tea there is very sweet. A little too sweet for my tastes, but as the ice melts and waters it down, it is quite good too.
If you're on the fence, I'd give it a try.
I was in Indy for my son's birthday, Saturday Oct. 17th. He wanted to go to his favorite restaurant, City Barbeque. We got there right as you opened and were greeted by the nicest young lady. I'm not from Indy so I had questions about your menu and she was SO helpful.
I mentioned it was Justin's birthday and after our meal she brought us (my son, his wife, and 4 children) 2 BIG pieces of delicious chocolate cake!!
We had a great time and the food was absolutely wonderful. I would like to sincerely say thank you to Jasmine Rodriquez. You truly made our visit to City Barbeque a great one!!!
Brisket Sandwich. Peppers, onions, provolone, brisket, horseradish sauce, served on garlic Texas toast. Absolutely perfect. The meat just melted in your mouth.

Nicely done BBQ. If there was one genre of food I wish there were more of in Indy, it would be BBQ. I enjoy seeing how BBQ places differ in their approaches to making all of the basics. So my wife got a nice spread of everything they had to offer the other night (well, close to everything) by getting a pulled chicken sandwich, smoked turkey sandwich and brisket sandwich. We also tried some of their potato salad and corn bake for sides. For dessert, bread pudding.
The brisket sandwich was nicely done and they don't sauce it either, which is appropriate. Sweet sauces and beef don't mix, but I did try a little bit of their spicy BBQ sauce and found it gave the beef a nice kick. The chopped brisket dropped about half of the meat from the sandwich by time I was done with the bun, but it was nice and smokey and not that dry. The turkey sandwich was given to my wife for free because the staff said that it was too dry to sell. I begged to differ because the meat I tasted in it seemed right on the edge of being too dry, but hadn't crossed that line yet. It also had great flavor and the honey mustard-ish sauce that we went well with it. The pulled chicken sandwich was sloppy because it was maybe mixed with some kind of sauce of white consistency or maybe it was just some juices that it was kept in. It disintegrated the bun halfway through eating and wasn't an enjoyable experience for my wife.
The sides were pretty average for a BBQ place, neither good nor bad. The corn bake was a unique dish to see at a BBQ place, but should be more commonplace. The huge winner of the night was the fresh cut fries. This is huge for a BBQ place or even a burger place. This shows that they care about the kind of food they're serving. I like this place for this one reason only. The rest of the review up until this description was all fluff anyway, just know that these fries are awesome and why you should come here. The bread pudding was also a fine way to finish the meal.
Overall, I would go back to City BBQ because I was pleased with the value and portion sizes. I'd like to see how they do on ribs and pulled pork next. Stay tuned.
Super fantastic!. We went to the Greenwood location only because we were out late and needed something open after 9:00. It was.... and more. We will be going back. The young guy at the register was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I wish I had remembered his name. :-)
Bottom line: The food is fantastic. The sauce is great.
Coming from Texas, I've had some pretty good BBQ. However, this is as good as I can get at home. The brisket was moist and excellent. I liked the original BBQ sauce. As an added bonus, they served Shiner Bock.
Being from the south, I am very picky about my BBQ, and while NOTHING compares to good Memphis BBQ (Rendezvous, anyone?) City BBQ is the best I've found on the south side of Indy. I eat here probably once a week - we even have business meetings here regularly. I'm a dry-rub kind of guy and I like my sauces as condiments, not slathered on just before serving and City serves it the way I like it! It's not sloppy and saucy. It's smoky and savory! Just right!! Go for Buack-a-Bone Tuesdays if you're a rib guy!
Deeeeeelicious! Wow. I live in STL but we traveled thru Indy on vacation and this place is sooooo good! I got the pulled chicken sandwich, my husband and m-i-l split the deluxe platter with a half chicken and pulled pork. Everything from the sauce to the sides is very obviously homemade and just completely craveable. I wish we had these in STL instead of the disgusting Bandana's chain everywhere. Please franchise! Your food is amazing!
This is my spot for barbeque hands down
Don't listen to the naysayers.... I don't get why people who have one bad experience feel like it's their responsibility to rip a place apart. I've been to City BBQ in Greenwood about a half dozen times in the last few months and it has been enjoyable every single time. Not once have I had bad service or bad food. Anyone that complains about a little gristle or fat shouldn't be going to a bbq joint in the first place. Being from the South I didn't have many good expectations for the Northern interpretation of bbq, but I have to say that I am impressed every time I go back. And if you have to wait in line deal with it; that's the sign of a good restaurant.
Fresh salads and i could eat their potato salad by the bucket! Their pulled meats tend to be dry.
Good but.... My husband and I stopped here Friday night.
We were initially turned off by the prices. Their prices for their meat, sandwiches and sides were comparable to Squealers or GT South's but the dining room looked like a typical fast food restaurant. I have a problem paying sit-down restaurant prices for a fast food environment.
We both ordered the pulled chicken sandwiches. For sides, he got Mac and cheese and hush puppies. I got mac and cheese and smashed potatoes.
The chicken bbq was good. Sometimes with pulled chicken bbq, there is fat/gristle and we didn't find any in our sandwiches which was good. The meat is marinated/tossed with some sort of broth/juice that keeps it moist... I really liked it but my husband thought it had too much pepper in it.
The Mac and cheese was really good as were the smashed potatoes and my husband liked the hush puppies but did note that they were sweeter than the Long John Silvers variety.
Their sauce selection was nice... there were 4-5 to choose from. I do have to wonder about the food safety of the sauces sitting out on the tables all day... all the bbq sauces i've ever purchased say refrigerate after opening.
It was nice that they had both diet mountian dew and diet doctor pepper on their fountain.
So, it was a decent meal. portions were nice, but for the price it wasn't as comfortable as other places that are sit-down restaurants.
Yes, we would have had to pay a tip, but if i'm going to spend almost $30 for 2 meals by the time you add sides and a drink... i'd rather be comfortable.
Famous Daves had good food and kitsch. City BBQ keeps its concentration on food and in generous options. Tuesday is always Buck A Bone night. Overall rib quality is a very tiny bit below competitors but they easily make up for it with service speed, quality smoked goods, and very friendly service that doesn't feel corporate.
Great food! Had the pulled pork sandwich with fries and green beans. I like the self-service aspect of it. Wish there was one on the northside of Indy.
Great Q!. WOW! So happy to eat here. Pulled pork sandwich was piled high with moist, smokey meat. Side of greenbeans was very flavorful. Cannot wait to try it all!
Wow! great new bbq place!. Had North Carolina Pulled Pork, smashed potatoes (seasonal side) and hush puppies - Wow what portions! They had a a small toppings bar (pickles, onions, hot peppers...) and 3 Warm bbq sauces to choose from. Also 6 kinds of sauce at your table. No waiters - no tipping but dinning room was staffed to keep it clean and stocked. Noticed a sign about fried pickles while I was there - Can't wait to try those next! The only thing I wished they had was fried biscuits. Will be back and bringing my bbq loving friends!
Delish. My fiance and I love going to City Barbeque. The wait in line is worth it. Sure, it's price is comparable to Famous Dave's or Smokey Bones, but you don't have the 20% tip and that does help out the wallet.
Good selection of well prepared meats. Sides simple but compliment nicely. Will go back again.

The company’s slogan is, “All Smoke. No Mirrors.” We found that statement to be true. The brisket in particular was excellent and perhaps the best we’ve had since crossing th
City Barbeque, a small chain out of Ohio, made the south side the lucky recipient of a new bbq place last week! You can't have too many bbq joints! We had been watching for weeks as the final touches were completed and eagerly anticipated the grand openin

Easily 5 stars, hands down. Some of the best brisket I’ve had since Houston last summer. Very impressed! Pulled pork was delicious. Cole slaw was divine, creamy and tangy with just the right amount of crunch. And those fresh-cut fries? Incredible! Drank three glasses of sweet tea. It’s really hard to find good sweet tea up here but this was very very good. Overall a wonderful visit and I can’t wait to come back!
I wanted BBQ. Never heard of this place as I live in Nebraska. I got the salad with brisket, and peach cobbler. The ambience was just like you’d want, not loud music or too dark to see your food. The amount of grub was plenteous, which beats most bbq places. The peach cobbler was to die for. I made the right choice. This place beat Famous Dave’s by a 100 years.
City BBQ is usually a pretty solid stop for us. They were a little busy which I can forgive as their food is usually worth the wait. The pulled pork was very tender as I've come to expect, but what hurt was the beef brisket. It was flavorful overall but it was still quite tough to the point I needed to use a knife to carve up the bites. Not what I'm used to with their brisket.
They didn't have ribs last night, so we ordered brisket sandwiches, and they hit the spot! The sandwiches had plenty of beef brisket! The first table we touched was so sticky, but the good thing is the other table next to it was clean!
Order DoorDash and the food was fresh, hot, all of the checks completed! Really enjoyed the food. We have ordered here many times and it’s always been really good. If you need a quick barbecue stop then come here cause it was really really good.
We showed up last minute before close with young children due to a late flight. Everyone was super accommodating and friendly, food was amazing, and surprisingly there's a lot of dairy free and soy free options. The food is amazing.
The ladies at the counter and register were extremely kind and helpful with helping me decide what to order for a family event I was heading to. Thank you very kindly for the hospitality. Also, the food was delicious! 10/10 👍
The food is always good here. The staff is is always friendly. However, I would love to have the meats with a little less salt and this will be a great place for all. So be careful if you are diabetic.
Yes please can I get some more! Great barbecue, huspuppies are on point, and the staff is great. I will continue to come back for more. Also have a cool app which gives u money off your order.
I love this place. More cowbell sandwich is so good we took a pound of brisket to go to eat the next day

I couldn't leave the parking lot before I started eating my to go order. The smell had me me reaching for the bag the minute I sat in the car seat. So I said why not as I reached slowly and carefully because their food is always hot. Well they didn't fell me this time either the food was spot on delicious. I'll be back like Arnold would say.
I wish I could cook like these people! I like everything but there Mac and cheese and dessert. Potato salad is so amazing and the pulled pork sandwich I probably could eat 3 times a week .
Best brisket I’ve had in a long time. Best brisket I’ve had here. Seems like the selection of sauces decreased, though. Maybe I’m imagining it as it’s been a while since I’ve been here.
Great BBQ. Had the ribs and the brisket and neither disappointed. The variety of sauces was also delightful. Also ordered the smoked wings...not to be missed.
I have never had a bad experience or any bad food from City BBQ! The Nashville Hot Chicken with the creamy slaw is SO good, I often find myself comparing other similar sandwiches to theirs and it never compares. The peach cobbler and banana pudding are both to die for as well! The atmosphere there has always been good vibes and all the workers are so kind! I’ve been often enough to recognize the same employees who are always there. I don’t know his name, but he usually is prepping the food to be served at the front counters (he wears a hat usually)and he is ALWAYS working so hard every time I go in there, you can tell he really cares about what he’s doing!
