Reviews Ralph's Great Divide

I'll go to great lengths to check out a good recommendation. That's how I ended up making a side trip to Indianapolis, just to try a slice of pie. But I wasn't leaving Ralph's Great Divide without a good meal. Thankfully, this little spot by the interstate was a great dive to enjoy. My friend Mike Hobbs turned me on to this place. He did so with tales of coconut cream pie, mentioning how a pie fanatic like me should appreciate a good slice. And so I did sit in my car with my computer, wearing strange clothes and sipping on tea, looking at this website for this place right off the interstate in Indianapolis. At the time, I looked longingly at the cool idea of chicken salad (it was over 90 degrees that one afternoon) and resolved to include it in my post-event adventures.

Hot Pot Aug. Before you take your children, remember this is a bar, so don't get your hopes up and leave in a huff. Leave the little ones at home.
It's all about the soup. This great mom and pop place has been featured in major magazines for a reason. The menu is pretty small and basic, but they do everything perfectly. Steaks, chicken, and the soup. HOT POT AUG is where it's at. Cheesy potato soup topped with a handful of croutons, and cheese, then broiled. They also have the HOT POT PIG which has ham or bacon, can't remember which, and pepper jack melted on top. Dinners come with your choice of salad, vegetable or potato (including the soup), bread, and homemade dessert. Can't get my punctuation right. That's 2 sides and dessert. When was the last time you had free dessert? I usually order "The Basic T & A" which includes steak tips, Hot pot aug, and a smaller salad with no dessert for a little less cash. It's just the right amount of food, and you can always share dessert. If you go for lunch you get a couple of pieces of candy with your sandwich for "dessert".
The building is off putting, and their hours can be strange, but go. You will not regret it.

Decent. Very decent dive bar with nice people working. Beers are cold, but don't go for the Scotch selection. It's a good neighborhood joint with OK bar food. I'll be back.

Love It!. Food is great, atmosphere is wonderful. If you are used to the small deli's and bars in NY, you'll love this place! Little pricey, but well worth it!

Ralphs was all n all great. The iced tea to begin with was good. The potato soup is creamy and cheesy it oozes from the spoon with cheese. The cheeaeburger club was tasty. The crispy bread and seasoned burgers were enjoyed bite after bite. The turkey sandwich was a turkey sandwich. So we give Ralphs an A-. Thx for a great lunch RGD!

Wonderful experience, start to finish. Warmly greeted at the door, received menus immediately (you seat yourself), our menu questions were patiently answered. Our water glasses-and drinks-were kept filled and dirty plates were promptly removed. I had a grilled ham & cheese sandwich with hot pot aug. Soup=awesome. On one of the coldest days of the year it warmed us right up. Rich & tasty. Sandwich wasn't on the menu but they made it anyway :) Bourbon ham is homemade deliciousness. He got the ribs special: 1/2 rack, salad, side, dessert for $19.99. Sauce could've been slightly spicier (for our taste) but the meat was PERFECT. Fell off the bone, not fatty at all but very tender and juicy. Coconut cream pie knocked our socks off. He's a Mooresville boy, and I swear Ralph's is better than Gray Bros. Try a Sun King Osiris with your coconut pie...they're great together. I feel like this spot is destined to become a favorite. Also, kids aren't allowed but smoking is.

WOW! Food COMA!. I cannot even think during this food coma that I am currently under! I giggled as I ordered one of the house specials "T&A" (Tips & Aug), but had absolutely no regrets. I decided to try the HOT POT PIG rather than the Aug as suggested by another reviewer. And it was out of this world delicious! The succulent beef tenderloin skewer that accompanied it in front of me was also perfection! I can't say enough good things about this gem of a restaurant. Great service and super friendly owner! I will be back next week I'm sure.

A Part of History. Ralph's Great Divide is a restaurant in which you can almost sense the history as you walk into the door. I'm a girl who knows what I want, but when you are here, you just go with the flow, and you won't go wrong. I also like the sarcastic sense of humor that is built into this restaurant. Don't quote me but the menu lists its side items and "Other specials of the day that we may or may not have."

While the day's special looked delicious, my fiance and I both went with the beef tips and hot pot aug. He liked his coleslaw, but I think he was a little envious of my pea salad.

Ralph's Great Divide has some of the best desserts in Indianapolis (that also fall into the "we won't write this down because there is no telling what delicious sweets we will have today" category). On this particular day, I got the Butterscotch Pie and he got the Brownie with Butterrum Drizzle a la mode. Both were awesome.

The price is very reasonable for all of the delicious food, and our service was wonderful. Now for those who are impatient (like me a lot of the time), and you are in a hurry for a meal... go to McDonalds. Ralph's is a place to sit back, relax, enjoy a 4 course meal (Beer, Pea Salad, Hot Pog Aug and Beef Tips, Dessert) and enjoy your surroundings... There is plenty to take in.

I would recommend Ralph's Great Divide to anyone.

Tip: get the Beef. The skewers of beef tips are tasty and tender. One can do no better than these garlic marinated and perfectly cooked pieces of beef. My dinner guest had buyers remorse for choosing the chicken breast with pasta and Alfredo. I tasted it and it was o.k , but paled next to these skewers of love. And yes, the Hot Pot Aug is a wonderful soup.

I know a thing or two about some good soup and this was some damn good, homemade soup. I would love bigger pieces of broccoli in the broccoli cheese, but the taste was phenomenal. The sweet relish chicken salad wasn’t quite up my alley; I prefer more of a grape, celery and walnut route. There was almost no texture contrast in the sandwich. The burger, served on grilled bread vs. a typical bun, was juicy, well-dressed and seasoned. Nothing fancy, just a simple, delicious burg

This is a wonderful place to eat and hang with local Indy people. A lot of nostalgia here. The potato soup is fantastic! Dig the old school Q95 sign.

What a great place to grab some great food downtown Indy! The staff was very friendly and gave great service! The Food was out of the park ! That was the best potato soup I have ever had loaded with lots of gooey Cheese croutons . It was excellent . The burger was darn good ! The coconut pie was fabulous and I’m not even a fan of that kind of pie …but split it with my friend to try because she loves coconut pie! The best I had ever tasted …all home made we were told! The prices are low I thought so very reasonable for what you get . Check it out ! 743 New York street .

Pretty neat spot. The soup was good just lots of cheese , a little too much for me and I'm a cheese lover. I got the hog pot with cheese and bacon and half a Turkey sandwich. They accommodated things just how I wanted them prepared with no problem. Drinks are also pretty strong with a decent beer selection.

I am glad I checked this place out. They have great food and a nice craft beer selection. They only have cans and bottles but that's A-OK with me because draft lines can be hit or miss at bars. I had the prime rib special on Friday and it was great. They also have homemade desserts. This would be a regular spot for me if I was local.

One of Indy's best kept secrets. I'll tell you about it and it'll still be that way. Not sure why cuz this place is the coolest. Great atmosphere, food is legit, and the service it is absolutely amazing. The owner is great and deserves all the praise in the world. I was lucky enough to meet her, as she was working the bar, the last time I was there. Can't say enough good things about this place.

This is a great little home in the wall restaurant. The food was really quite good and the service was too. I had a ham sandwich, potatoe soup, and red potatoe salad. They were all excellent. The atmosphere leaves quite a bit to be desired, but you'll enjoy the food enough to look passed that. The parking is free too which is nice.
