Don't expect 5-star dining. We normally get take-out from this place and the food is generally good...maybe "hit & miss" sometimes.

Please understand - the service at this restaurant is HORRENDOUS - I chalk it up to a cultural difference tho and it can sometimes be such bad service and interaction with the waitress that it ends up being somewhat funny. The waitress was so ill-mannered that she literally scared the girl I was dating.

If it were not a Chinese restaurant, this place wouldn't stay open a month. But the restaurant is truly Chinese....and the service seems authentic Chinese as well.

This place was a big surprise to me. It was my first time eating there and it was very nicely setup and the waitress we had was on top of it. The food was very delightful and delicious. I loved that each dish had something different to offer. I also enjoyed that the dinner portions were like family size so you could share each plate with the company you are with. This is a place I am definitely going to come back to. I would recommend this place to anyone. It's better than the Chinese buffet food. So go and check it out.

OK good,. But not great good. I have to say we tried to go the Yen Ching on the Eastside first, but being a Monday that location was closed. So, drove to the northside location. Fried rice was good and had a wonderful smokey flavor. Kung Pow chicken was good, but to sweet for my taste. Jenny our waitress was good. Many reviews here comment on service. We had no trouble.

Great little sit-down Chinese place. I first discovered Yen Ching when I moved to Indy in 2006. The inside looks like it could use a remodel, but it doesn't affect the quality of the food. There are some traditional Chinese decorations and music of course to set the mood.

I have never had a problem with the service here. I feel that it is always quick and efficient. The server always checks on me several times. I don't know why so many people say they get rude servers as I have never had this problem. They do seem busy and will sometimes sort of rush you, but I see them go off to roll silverware, or other tasks, so I understand the need to not stand there and be slow and chit-chat with their customers like some restaurants do.

I have to say the best dish I've had here is the Garlic Chicken. The sauce has an amazingly rich and deep flavor that I have never been able to find anywhere else. That is all I buy from them now. The chicken is soft and moist and the water chestnuts practically melt in your mouth. Also, try their hot tea. It's a wonderful addition to the meal.

Some of my friends think the food here is just average, but I like the quiet, local atmosphere. I like to go by myself for a late lunch. Hardly any other customers are present which gives me a great opportunity for some alone time.

Excellent experience at Yen Ching!. We enjoy good food of all ethnicities and, after reading several reviews, decided on Yen Ching Northwest for dinner. The owner/gopher (according to her) Kate greeted us and showed us to our seat. She was courteous, friendly, and made us feel welcome.
Our server, Jenny, soon brought water along with menus and took our drink order. When she brought our iced tea, freshly brewed and excellent, I told her we were first-timers and wanted a few minutes to look over the menus. After that, she checked our table several times, but did not stop until I indicated that we were ready to order. We had some questions, which she answered thoroughly and without hesitation.
We ordered the Curry Shrimp and Sha-Cha Beef, both extra spicy. Also, we both had the Hot & Sour soup. The soup came right away and Jenny brought our entrees after we finished our soup.
The Hot & Sour soup was absolutely the BEST we've tasted anywhere. It was a bit spicy and so fresh one could actually taste the fresh green onion. The serving temperature was perfect. This soup was so good that we ordered a quart to go!
I had the beef, which was spicy, included the standard white rice, tube mushrooms, baby corn and broccoli covered with a brown spicy sauce, and was very good.
The Curry Shrimp that my wife ordered was excellent. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and served with a mouth-watering spicy curry sauce.
It was past closing when we finished. I asked earlier about closing time and was told that we were customers there and to take our time and enjoy our meals. There was food left over, which was boxed and bagged for us, and we were given tea to go.
The check was itemized as written by our server and included individual pricing. Once again, the food and service were excellent and prices were reasonable. We definitely plan to return.

Oldie but goodie. We've been eating here for over 25 years. The hot and sour soup is the best I've tasted anywhere, including
China. It may not be the most authentic Chinese food, but we love it.

Our Favorite Indy Chinese. Any time we want Chinese food, we drive to Yen Ching even though we live no where near it any more. We always get Lo Mien and General Tso's chicken with rice - one order of each is more than enough to feed my husband and me. I am surprised to see negative reviews about the food - granted, we don't branch out much but have never had a bad experience. Service is always friendly and efficient and prices are very reasonable.

Great Sweet & Sour Chicken!. I visit this restaurant frequently since it's right by where I go to school. Lunch is only about $7 after tip (I drink water, so that doesn't include a soda). I love their sweet & sour chicken, and the fried rice is delicious! The soup is just okay. My husband loves their General Tso's chicken. There are generally two waitresses that I've seen - one is really friendly, and the other doesn't seem to understand English at all and isn't great at serving, so it's kind of luck-of-the-draw with service unfortunately. Try to get the older waitress if you can!!

Yen ching has always been a family favorite. They were recently ranked in the Top 100 Chinese restaurants in America. The food is excellent, the service is dilligent and friendly and the price is very reasonable. As food goes, I would suggest the crabmeat Rangoon. In my opinion, it's the best in the state. Also, my family and I really like the cashew chicken and the hot and sour soup. Everything is good, though, and the menu is extensive.

I love the food at Yen Ching! I particularly enjoy their Sunday buffet which always seems fresher and more "home cooked" than the usual Chinese buffet that one encounters. The restaurant is nice inside, with a calming atmosphere. Their prices are quite reasonable too.

Love their lunch specials, my coworkers and I come here often for lunch and the food is always hot and fresh. They are always extremely busy so I highly encourage takeout. I don't think the sit down would be worth it, especially considering the tip you have to leave and their customer service isn't always suuuuper friendly--but it's cheap, delicious, made to order chinese food that isn't gooped on with sauces from a bottle. It's good and definitely worth it.

If you have a chance, please stop by this authentic Chinese restaurant in north of Indianapolis. I visited the area, and had a dinner, liked everything I ordered. The most impressive of my experience is the couple who own the business are very kind and helpful. I told them I stayed in a hotel nearby and need to have some fresh fruits. They gave me useful information and direction. Once they heard I am alone and only need a couple of fruits, the owner cut an orange and brought to my table without charge, and handed a few fruits to me, saying with smile: it's not worth driving far for just a couple of fruits.......

Nice sit-down table-service Chinese place. They have most of your favorite dishes that you'll find at most American Chinese restaurants, and a few unique ones too. The staff always seems a little standoffish, but perform their jobs dutifully.

This is as close to homemade Chinese food as I've ever had in Indy. Homemade egg drop soup (not that yellow crap), friendly staff, fresh food, quiet atmosphere. Great for groups or for a meal for two. Lovely. :)

I was looking for a simple, inexpensive carryout meal and found it. I did request spicy and wasn't as spicy as I had hoped. However, food tasted great and the service was extremely friendly.

Always good, always authentic, I do not get take out from any place other than Yen Ching. Everything is made in house. No canned or powdered anything. You will definitely taste the difference!
