Finally a super delicious Japanese Cafe is in town! Different from usual Japanese restaurants, Soseki brings metropolitan high quality grab-and-go cafe concept into Iowa City! The environment is bright, open and clean. And the food is super fresh and delicious! They have grab-and-go sushi for those who are in a hurry. It's cheaper but not order to make. We didn't try them, but they look good. My husband and I ordered Spider Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll and Curry Pork Chop Donburi for $24. Every dish came with soup or salad. The price was average in the area, but the quality of the food really worth the money!
Spider Roll: it's so impressive that you can clearly see big soft shell crab in the roll! The veggie, meat, rice and sauce were very balanced. Very delicious!
Shrimp Tempura Roll: the shrimp tempura is crunchy and fresh! Taste good! Especially the end part of the roll!
Curry Pork Chop Donburi: Super impressive and delicious! They put large chunks of fried pork chop over the rice with veggies in the curry sauce. The pork chops are thick, juicy inside and crunchy outside. The curry sauce is a little spicy but very smooth! And you can have rice, veggie and large chunk of pork chop in every bite! Very recommend this dish if you want something other than sushi here!

Fantastic selection of food, personally a big fan of their cooked dishes, as most Japanese places shift most of their efforts to sushi, Soseki has a good collection of both. However I think their cooked dishes deserve special praise, particular the rice bowls, of which the Katsudon is my favorite.
I got the California and Tempura Combo with the soup and it was delicious and filling! Clean and relaxing atmosphere and the staff was great.
The food was fresh , delicious , and nutritious . Thankful for a wonderful sake experience.

This place is absolutely incredible. My date and I were thoroughly impressed with the quality of food, presentation, and overall vibe. I got a poke bowl and a sushi burrito, both were delicious. I also tried the takoyaki and it's the best I've had so far. It was cooked correctly and had great flavor. It's hard to get takoyaki right but they hit the nail on the head. They also have a mini convenience area where you can get snacks and drinks. I really recommend giving this restaurant a try! Parking is super easy too, it's right by a parking ramp.
This place crafts phenomenal sushi and poke bowl!!! HANDS DOWN the BEST place for sushi and Asian cuisine in Iowa City. The service is wonderful, the staff is are always very welcoming and friendly.
Nice staff. Great food. Wide variety of options from sushi to ramen to Mongolian. Beer and Saki available. I had the Teriyaki chicken rolls- highly recommend. Staff wears masks and you are expected to as well.

As a Japanese American man & local business owner, this establishment is the perfect evening place to hang out and relax after a hard day of work. Excellent staff with friendly service & fair prices for genuine Japanese cuisine.

Great teriyaki steak and sesame shrimp. Delicious sugar milk tea. The staff was kind and friendly. I really loved the anime decorations they have.
