Tonight the service was a little slow, after we ordered it got better. I got the BBQ regular plate baked beans and french fries. Ask for hand chop BBQ inside and out. Overall it was very good.
A visit to the Original Original Golden Rule is something everyone should experience. It is a step back into the 70s BBQ restaurant, when a hard seat booth and panelling were the staples of the environment. The food here is very classic diner/BBQ joint... including that touch of grease. Enjoy it, don't fight it! If you insist on something lean, their turkey is amazing.
This could be a great restaurant, if they would hire servers who are clean and pay attention to what you ask for.I have been there several times and almost every visit they have left something off of the plate. When I ordered Hamburger Steak, I rarely get the rolls that are supposed to be with it. I have ordered it Medium Well, but they still manage to overcook the meat... I was told by the cashier that they "smash" the meat while cooking to shorten the cooking time. There is no need to mash the meat, unless you like to serve dry, taste-free meat.I have also ordered BBQ Sandwiches, and on two (2) occasions received sandwiches that smelled like the meat was rank. To say the least, I didn't get to eat on those occasions.I will probably not go back to the IRONDALE location; especially after I witnessed a server scratch her head and deliver food to a nearby table. I overheard the Manager apologize to them. (That's just GROSS).
This ol girl will keep you coming back for more. The BEST hamburger steak you will ever have. Really. Better than you can make it. Great fries. Great pies. Good salads. Good BBQ. Just a really good place to feed.
Golden Rule never disappoints. This place might be known for their BBQ, but you are doing a disservice to yourself by not getting a burger and fries/onion rings next time you venture into this establishment.
This is quite possibly the best burger/fry combo in the greater Birmunum area.
The only bad thing that I can say about this restaurant is that it is located in the same city as that dump Trios Train Stop.
Probably the best BBQ pork sandwich I ever had,pork had great flavor and the right amount of sauce.Impossible to beat Golden Rule!

Solid. If you are hungry and want a good meal with no frills, this is the place for you. This is our family's go to place when we are hungry and can't make a decision. Top notch service, friendly staff, and good food. It is nice to have a reliable restaurant you can count on.
Whenever in Birmingham, I have to make a stop here. Great pork, ribs, fries & beans.
A Birmingham landmark and great BBQ. Another place in my hometown to be proud of. BBQ is great although I sometimes get the cheeseburger and am always satisfied! Open pit, friendly staff and love hearing the chop chop chop of the pitmasters separating the BBQ and ribs! Must go!

Best ribs bar none! The fresh cut fries are great too when they are fresh out of the fryer. Walk in and instantly have that down home feeling.

You know you are at a great BBQ place as soon as you open your car door. That smoky aroma is everywhere! Unlike the other Golden Rules we have visited, the smell, the interior of bldg, and by just watching the pitmasters and food prep folks working, you know you are in for some really good BBQ. I had the chopped brisket plate with potato salad and baked beans. While the sides were really good, the brisket was outstanding. Great flavor, great texture and super juicy. If reviewing food only, this review would be 5+ stars. However, service was definitely lacking in specific areas. One, while I know the rona has affected eating establishments and they have to do what they have to in order to serve, when asked if I could get my Miller Lite in a glass, was told absolutely, then received a Styrofoam cup, well....that didn't work for me...but it ended up not being an issue due to the beer (canned) being so warm, I returned it, un opened and drank water instead. My next issue, was the lack of knowledge from waitress, which has been an ongoing issue with Golden Rule at a cple different locations. She didn't know which brands of beer they served, couldn't tell me the difference in a large and small brisket plate and never once came back to refill my water.
If Golden Rule ever brings their server staff up to the level of their food, they will be a favorite of mine for sure!

First time visiting....it was very nice. The staff was courteous and helpful. The restaurant was clean. The food was good, nice portion size for lunch. I had the rib sandwich with two sides, green beans and fries.
This place is amazing! The service was the best. They took our order quickly, brought the food quickly and came by several times to see if we needed anything else. The food was great too. Had pulled pork BBQ--delicious!
