I can’t believe it took me this long to go to Ponak’s. As a vegetarian and part-time vegan, sometimes I have trouble finding food that’s really filling and affordable out on the town. At Ponak’s, though, that’s no trouble at all. A few of those papas burritos à la carte and I am set. There’s a great atmosphere to go along with all that authentic, filling food owing to the excellent staff and immense number of people pouring through the doors at all hours. Heads up, the location does leave something to be desired, as it can be hard to get in and out of the nearby parking lots and the lots themselves are small. Ponak’s is definitely worth the drive over from the Kansas side, and a great idea for anybody in need of either pitchers of margaritas or pitchers of sangria. Oh, and head on down to Boulevard Brewing for a tour while you’re in the area! You won’t be disappointed.

We were there last night, our waitress was so nice and she was on top of everything! Margaritas were of course amazing and the food was great!
Same great tasting TexMex that we have enjoyed for many years - portions are good and taste excellent. The value was very good and the service was excellent. Ponak's house margaritas are outstanding and a great value. BTW - we must drive a half hour to get there and us well worth the travel time.
Can’t beat the #22. The only place I polish off the rice and beans that come with the meal.
I adore the guacamole and white cheese sauce. My husband and other family members love the crispy tacos and fish tacos! The staff are attentive and friendly. The restaurant seating has a bar side and a dining side, while the entire place is clean and uncrowded. I would recommend Ponak's to anyone who loves Mexican dishes!
the food was great. I had tacos and enchiladas and the portions were big if your not a big eater you might want to split a dinner . The price was reasonable and definitely worth it for how good the food was. We also ordered a pitcher of margaritas and they were fantastic!!

Great people and great atmosphere! Food is great and even on busy Friday nights when the wait is 45 minuets+ it is worth the wait! My family has been going here for years and it is our go to Mexican restaurant.

We came here looking for grilled fish tacos. And they were very good. Service was fast, guac and queso was very tasty. Prices were reasonable.
The fish tacos had quite a bit of fish in them. Fajitas were tasty. We want to come back and try their shrimp.
I haven't been to Ponak's for about 25 years and after last night I realized, I've been missing out. There were 3 of us and everyone's food was a huge portion and delicious. The Taco Salad was great and I was barely able to finished it. The Chicken Nachos were massive and they had a ton of cheese. We got a pitcher of Margaritas and had a great meal. Our waitress did a great job and she rocked it.
Great food, friendly staff. Surprisingly when we went (party of 4) there was no wait. It was Sunday around 4:30. I would recommend this place for sure.

Great place! I ordered the chicken fajita quesadilla and it was the best I've ever had. Thick, juicy grilled chicken, caramelized onions and peppers, grilled almost pita style thing. Amazing!

TACOS! TACOS! TACOS! best flavor and that cheese...ohh so good. Jon Ponak has it special ordered from a place in Wisconsin. Also the taco Sonora with carnitas and tamales are my personal favorite. However, there's no bad choices on the menu...In my opinion, it's the best restaurant in Kansas City and beyond! Don't forget to order an attitude adjustment a.k.a. margarita!!! Gracias!
Ordered 1 dish to split with my girlfriend. They actually split the 2 burritos with even portions into two plates, very satisfied with them going above and beyond. Service very quick and efficient. We were hungry, jalapeños salsa was 10/10, this place is always poppin..
I recently visited Ponak’s, & would not hesitate to go back! The staff was friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home.
The food was delicious and authentic, with a great variety of dishes to choose from. I especially loved the fresh guacamole and salsa, which were on point! The street tacos were also a standout!
The strawberry margaritas are probably my favorite part!
While the overall experience was excellent, I did have a few minor complaints. They do not accept reservations & will not seat you unless your entire party is standing with you at the hostess stand.
Ponaks is our family tradition to celebrate birthdays. The servers seem to be at on the top of drinks, chips and salsa.
Atmosphere is family friendly and lots of tvs for sports watching in the bar area.
The drinks are great and food plentiful.
Parking can be tricky. Plan to arrive early as the place fills up quickly.
