I absolutely adored visiting this space! It’s beautifully open, bright, and covered in plants. We tried the seasonal/signature drinks this time. One was wonderfully light and delightful. The other was a bit adventure for my taste, but completely gorgeous. Love the vibes here. We’ll be back soon for some quality coffee and people watching!
Monarch has a great variety of both coffee and non-coffee drinks. As a tea drinker, I was so excited to see I had several options. The baristas are also very helpful and knowledgeable. The inside is clean and bright, with just the right amount of vintage character. There is plenty of seating - both tables and several cozy booths. The only downside is they only offer one size drink. And, the cups are so short that they get stuck in my car cup holder. I would suggest taking your own cup to pour your drink into if you don’t want to drive around with a coffee in hand. Or, better yet, plan to sit for a bit, enjoy the ambiance and finish your drink inside. And, if you need a decent amount of caffeine, you’ll have to order two drinks.
The atmosphere alone is reason to visit Monarch! It's clean and modern, with plenty of seating inside and a few tables outside as well. Masks were required when we visited September 2021. I tried the their sweet potato latte from their fall specials that was delicious and not too sweet. We also tried the one and one (espresso and macchiato), which was delicious as well. My toddler had a steamer and a donut that was a hit! Picked up a bag of beans as well. Definitely worth the stop passing through KC!

What a beautiful coffee shop. The baristas are located behind a circular counter underneath a fancy ceiling. The rest of the ceiling looks like 1800's with the old ceiling tiles.
The shop was hopping when we arrived on a mid Saturday morning. That's always a good sign. My mocha was quite delicious at the perfect temperature. It was hot, but not so hot that I couldn't start drinking it right away and not cool enough to be cold quickly. My husband said his Americano was one of the best he's had.
They make their own pastries, except for the donuts. Those are provided by Hanna's Donuts in Kansas City, KS. I didn't try any pastries on this visit, but will return to try those and maybe a different coffee drink.
The restroom is large and elegant. The walls are all painted black and there is a large, fancy mirror, old time looking pedestal sink, and fancy door hardware.
After we were seated for a while they brought a carafe of water and 2 glasses and served us water. I have NEVER seen this in a coffe house before. That extra service stepped up the experience.
It is an overall great environment with great coffee and friendly staff. We will definitely visit again.
Monarch is my favorite coffee shop in the city! Their seasonal drinks are always nice, love the baked goods (the croissants and morning buns 😍) and I buy their beans for brewing at home. And the people that work there are so nice!!!
I dropped in February 23rd around noon while waiting for a nearby pharmacy to open for the afternoon. I really enjoyed the experience.
The space was clean, inviting, and aesthetically appealing, and the service was nice. The shop was nice and quiet, not too noisy.
I ordered the Pink Daisy Tea Latte, and my boyfriend ordered the Hot Chocolate.
The Pink Daisy Tea Latte was delicious, the flavors were delicate but distinct, and it was good and warm for a cold day. The Hot Chocolate was good and rich and flavorful, and the presentation looked really cute. The amount of drink was pretty reasonable as well.
The prices were on the higher side but I'm willing to pay them to support a local business.
I'll definitely return if I'm in the area again, it's very good. As a side note, I enjoy the shop's Instagram presence as well.
I've only had the iced coffee, which had a good flavor and acidity. They roast their own coffee and have a modern, chic atmosphere in the restored Ambassador building. The space foregoes comfy chairs for booths, which also means limited outlets per table. Baristas were great and friendly! I am disappointed their food options are limited and they do not offer pour overs, but overall it is a solid addition to the neighborhood. Hopefully their espresso turns out great as well!
Monarch Coffee has a wonderful interior space that’s thoughtfully decorated with plenty of seating for large groups, booth seating for a bit more privacy, and many bistro-style seats for small groups. Interior aside, the pastry selection is small though from a local bakery. I had the pear and chocolate chip scone which was moist and quite good, but lacked a bit more flavor. I visited during the time they were in-between seasons as I was told, but this confused me as to why they weren’t ready and needed several days to add any specialized drinks to their menu? I had the lavender white chocolate latte and it wasn’t amazing; lacked a lot of lavender flavor and was much foamier than I asked for. Overall, for a meeting space, it’s got the fourth star.
Great coffee and great atmosphere! Such a cute coffee shop that is great for pictures and hanging with friends. They have vegan options as well! My friend got a vanilla latte with oat milk and it was delicious. I got the iced vanilla latte with regular milk. And it was also very reasonably priced!
Great atmosphere and a great place to open up your laptop and get some work done! The tables with a couch on one side and a chair on the other might be my favorite spot. Their vanilla latte is probably one of my favorite items off the menu!
My go to for any first visit to a Coffee shop/house is a standard hot Latte with whole milk as it reveals the truth. Monarch’s Latte was everything I wanted it to be. The pastries were good. The ambiance was lovely and the sound level was good- can easily talk to others or concentrate while working on your laptop.
Bright coffee shop with vintage accents, creative and delicious coffee offerings, and fresh flowers on every table. Staff create a pleasant environment to read, catch up with friends, and work.
I almost didn't like this place but I'm still sitting in the shop and I've been here since 11 am (over 3 hours) I got one of their English muffins with an orange-cicle latte for only $10. The guy at the front didn't say hello but the girl who served me was really delightful so she made up for him. The place is very clean and the decorations are minimal but stand out. I like that they have tucked away and open seating so you have multiple options. The music they play is varied types of instrumentals which make for a great place to focus and get work done. The latte really surprised me. It was like any latte but had this blast of citrus I've never had with any kind of orange coffee. I really recommend it, it's very unique and I'll be coming here more often. Great first visit!
Great coffee shop, has a fresh and modern feel to it and the prices are fantastic compared to the bigger chains. We got the caramel Iced latte, cappuccino and double chocolate brownie, very impressed. Would definitely recommend .
I visited Monarch Coffee for the first time yesterday evening shortly before they were due to close. I've walked by countless times wondering why there was always a large crowd out front waiting for caffeine infused beverages. Yes, I am a loyal Starbucks fan, in case you were wondering! However, after indulging in their exquisitely silky sweet 🥔 latte and warm ginger molasses cookie, I am willing to share the love! The prices aren't bad either!
I got a seasonal coffee, a sweet potato latte. It was so tasty! I usually let coffee drinks cool quite a while, but this didn't need that at all, which is a downer for legit coffee drinkers. (My friend Kerry would never put up with this!) It was a rainy, windy, cold day, so I wanted warmth. I also think a coffee shop should have comfy chairs. But, the space is bright and attractive, the packaging is gorgeous. The menu is creative and the flavors deliver.
A little rejuvenating perk!
While on a work trip, I always look for coffee shops whom have good reviews. We stayed in a nearby airbnb so this place was close enough to walk to.
Although there wasnt a whole lot to choose from and their food was limited, the atmosphere was indulging. It was a busy little place and the service was good.
If I were to go back to KC I would revisit this place and hope they had their lavender latte which I was so hoping to have.
Aesthetic goals. You could take beautiful photos here. I also loved the real roses on the table. They added such a nice touch to the atmosphere.
I went right around Thanksgiving when they first opened up, so clearly no one was there. It was a great place to sit, relax, and watch cars go by.
I got the matcha latte and a poptart. No complains about any of it. I always love a fancy adult poptart ;)
What a fun experience.
I had the Everything Nice specialty drink : Emissary espresso, blood orange, cayenne, cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate, & steamed oat milk. Served warm in a gibraltar glass, with candied orange peel garnish. The flavor was wonderful and bold. I drank slowly to enjoy every sip and flavor note.... Then ended with eating the delicious orange peel.
My girlfriend had the Turmeric Latte: Oat milk, turmeric, ginger, honey, & vanilla. She normally doesn't drink oat milk, but the Barista convinced her to try it as is with promise of a new drink if she didn't like it. She liked it very much.
The atmosphere is bright and open. You'd think that this would cause a noise problem, but it did not. We comfortably had a private conversation for over an hour. I highly recommend a visit.
