This is our go to place and my familys favorite restaurant!
BEST Chinese food I've had in a long time. The food is fresh, hot, and delicious. The lunch is the best bang for a buck. HUGE portions. Every time I'm in Tri Cities I always stop here.
First, Shanghai serves delicious food for the money. This is not a high end restaurant but the portions are generous and quite good. We usually eat as a group of five and we always leave satisfied with some left over. They serve a wide variety of tastes on the menu. It's hard to go wrong but once we find something we really like we tend to reorder it. We especially like the Hunan Chicken, Honey Garlic Chicken, and Curry Chicken. The owners are quite pleasant. The only drawback is that getting our drinks refilled is hit or miss. Other than that, we really love to eat here.
A Tasty "Bulk for Buck" Restaurant. Shang Hai Restaurant has one thing going for it that the typical American likes: HUGE PORTIONS. The food wasn't that great, in fact, it was pretty mediocre, but there certainly was a lot of it! To wit: The plate of Twice Cooked Pork fed me, an active adult male, three separate times. It fed me once at the restaurant and twice at home. Ditto the Sesame Chicken for my wife.
The service wasn't anything to complain about as I had read in some reviews. Yes, the server was difficult to understand, but no, that didn't detract from the lunch.
We were given this suggestion at my wife's doctor. Since we had to drive over an hour to get to the doctor, lunch is always on the table.
I do think it was a tad "scary" to see those fish drying on cardboard as we walked to the front of the restaurant. Surely they weren't on any menu item?!
I'm going to keep this short and sweet. This is the BEST Chinese-American restaurant in the Tri-Cities. Hands down. The food is served by the mountain and its always fresh, hot, greasy and delicious. The fried rice and chow mein are a must. I've never had anything here I didn't like. Its also really awesome when you walk in and Sandy greets you with a huge smile and asks about the family. The other urbanspooners aren't kidding when they say nice things about her and her outstanding memory. With a very sweet lady running the show, great food and a very reasonable price, I'm a customer for life!
Spot on!. The best Authentic General Tso's Chicken you will find outside of Portland's Imperial Gardens. 8/10 I kicked it down to an 8 because the last couple of times I've been there the chicken was way over cooked and at times not very tender. But if you like GT's chicken this is the best in the region.
Hot & Sour soup is amazing 10/10 Noticable mae ploy chili sauce but it's a great balance. I could eat this soup every day.
I haven't had anything else on the menu because I'm always starved for good General Tso's sauce so that's what I order every time lol. I'll be bold next time and try something else... and take home some GT's for later :)
Service is good but as with most good restaurants they are busy every time I get a chance to visit Kennewick. Highly recommended.
The BOMB. This place stands out in one and only one very important way - LOTS of delicious, greasy, glorious, Chinese-American goodness for LITTLE cash. Seriously, this is probably the best value in a restaurant I've ever seen: a mountain of tasty food for 8-10 bucks tops, and it's well made, hot, and fresh stuff. I'm a big boy and I like to eat a lot, and even I take home leftovers from this place. I've had many things on the menu, and I've never had anything I didn't like, only things I enjoy more than others. I usually go for one of their 3-4 item combo plates, so I get a nice variety of goodies.
That being said, the service here is the only thing keeping this place from being near perfect. There's about a 50/50 chance of the service being awful, and you can almost guarantee it will be if it's very busy in there and you see the staff running around looking rushed with a grim look on their faces, food strewn about the floor and tables not bussed properly. For example, a few visits ago I waited just over 10 minutes just to get the bill at the end of the meal, needless to say there was a lot of thumb twiddling and sighs going on. It's hard to pinpoint the culprit, but it definitely boils down to a management issue in one way or another. Still, the service would have to be much, much worse to keep me away from here. I've been coming here for years, so at least I know what to expect. I've tried about all the other places like this in town, but this is the only place I've been a repeat customer over the many years I've lived in the Tri, and will continue to do just that.
PS - There's a female employee named Sandy in there; she's super nice and has a memory like a steel trap. She remembers just about everyone who steps foot in that place and remembers information about your family and personal life. She asks me how my family is doing every time I come in, which is a nice personal touch you don't see often :)
Gluten Free. Our family has been eating at Shang Hai for about 9 years. 6 years ago I was told I needed to eat a gluten free diet, and to my surprise, Shang Hai uses gluten free soy sauce!!
Their house special fried rice is the BEST fried rice you will ever taste!
Best Chinese food in the area, very friendly staff, always quick, they will accommodate any food request. Love the general tso chicken or shrimp, and amazing crab puffs. great for small or even large groups
Best Spring Rolls!. The spring rolls at Shang Hai are easily the best in Kennewick! They're always fresh, with yummy vegetables inside. The Hot and Sour Soup is great too -- we always ask for (and get) extra tofu in ours!
GOOD EATS!!!. Big portions for leftovers. Food is really good.
Very affordable meals.
Great stuff. Sure, it has the grease and all, but these guys make the best Chinese food in the Tri-Cities. Their Hot and Sour soup is out of this world. I would call their Honey Garlic Beef (or Chicken) their signature dish - you have to try it, and you will not find it anywhere else. They have these potstickers that are as big as your fist, too, double wrapped and substantial. They are very friendly, and I think the one woman has a photographic memory, remembering many customers after just one visit. If you are looking for fancy pretentious food, go somewhere else. If you are looking to get stuffed on some fantastic chow, and have a bunch to take home, this is your place...
Amazing food for a great price! And the staff is sooo friendly
M.S.A. Make Spokane Affordable
+4.5
I went there last night with my girlfriend and kids and had some of the best food I have had in a long time. The portions were very good and very nicely priced. We ordered 5 full dinners even with the tip came to less than $40.00. We will definitely be going back.
Asparagus chicken was awesome! My friend's General Tso's chicken was great too. Good price.
How are the Twins?. That is what she says every we come in. This Chinese dive has been a family favorite of my families for years! Going on 7 to be exact. The waitresses treat us like family and if my husband or I come in without our 4 children in tow, the question is always the same. The food is great and inexpensive. With a family of for going out is a treat but with this wonderful place it doesn't have to break the bank. It is traditional Chinese-American food so don't come in expecting gourmet but even to a foodie this stop is a most!
Awesome food. My wife and I have been going there for years.
Went here on a hunch with a co-worker, best food since we have been in the Tri-Cities. Their lunch menu is insane and the prices are excellent. 3 main entrees, heaping amounts, $5.95. Seriously??? Sorry China Buffet, your outta here!
SUPER FAMILY RESTAURANT. We started going to ShangHai on Xmas of 2005 and now go there regularly. The menu has all my favorites and unlike most restaurants they will make it to order. The staff are like family and are the same as when we first started going.
The portions are huge and flavors are spot on.
Sandy makes sure everyone feels at home.
We live in Richland and either drive to the restaurant to eat or get takeout at least one every week.
Love it. We eat at Shang Hai a couple of times a month. When we get there Sandy knows just what everyone in the family wants to eat. (We are predictable) The General Tso chicken is the best and 3 of us eat it and have more than enough. the prices are very reasonable.
Our Favorite Place!. We eat here probably once a week! It is great food, great service, great prices, and hardly anyone knows about it. They never have more than a few tables full. It's the first place where we all like the egg drop soup, pork fried rice, and sweet and sour sauce. Usually one of those is lacking in other places.
Lots of food, you get your moneys worth! Came in with a huge party and we got our food very quickly. Everything was delicious. Love their combination you pick option for 13$ you can’t beat it!
I grabbed take out for the first time tonight and I am sooo blown away! The BBQ Pork Chow Mein was beyond flavorful and incredible! The Kung Pao and Sweet and Sour Chicken were soooo good as well! Also, the ladies helping me with my order were so nice and warm This is by far the best I've had in the Tri!
I came in around 7pm today with my lil family 😍😛 all I can say is that the food is amazing, fresh, hot and so delicious OMG the egg rolls are the best! please don't ever change your style of making food. Best best best !!
Thank you so much.
We always go and get pick 4s for our family. The food is pretty good and the people are nice! Definitely one of my go too for Chinese food! I love their egg flower soup and the pork fried rice. Plus they are one of the places that do lemon chicken and it is delicious!!! Recommend!
Hands down the best crab puffs in tri-cities.
The food here is delicious. Good servings. Overall very good place.
My go to chinese place for fried rice and rolls. I have always done a take out but today, we ate in. The spice level is perfect and food is always satisfying. I have yet to try other food on the menu.
The food was really good! The BBQ pork was great and appeared to be either made in-house, not the stuff you usually find that is mass produced and neon red. All the portions were super generous, we ordered the family style dinner B and ordered 4 for our family of 5, and we could have fed 8. The shrimp had way too thick of breading for my liking, but the kids liked it anyway. Overall exactly what I was hoping for when looking for a Chinese restaurant.
Yummy! My favorite is the House Special Chow Mein and the Sesame Chicken but it was all really fantastic!
My family and I got a bunch of plates for sharing, we should have asked about the portion of each before hand! Great value and great service! We'll be fed for the rest of the week. 😋
This place is AMAZING! The food was so delicious, really good portions, and the servers are just the best. 10/10 and if you need anything just let the servers know and they will help you to the best of your ability. Also if you have any allergies or dislikes just let the servers know and you are good to go! If you haven't had a chance to try this place, *definitely* do
Lovely and best restaurant for us! Family has been going there or getting take out from Shang Hai for many years! Sandy is always so friendly and helpful , always asks about the family! Love this place, wonderful food! The Bauer family.
This place us legit. Not cold hard bbq pork, theirs is warm, tender, not red dyed. Check it out. Need a soecial dish, call a day ahead and you will be pleased.
If you are craving chinese food for lunch, order here. The portion sizes are big, the wait time for takeout is short, and the prices are affordable. The picture below is the meal I got for a little over $20. I ordered House special lo mein and the General Tso chicken lunch special.
It's been said that half of an average Shang Hai entree could feed an African village for several weeks.
It's been said that one entree from Shang Hai is so large that they don't serve more than five at a time, as the gravitational pull would create a black hole and swallow the Earth.
Worth every penny. 7/7
The food is top notch, authentic and delicious!! I usually get the #5 special combo dinner, it never disappoints and I easily get 3 meals with all the leftovers 😋
I went here for the hot and sour soup and it was excellent, egg rolls were great too, very friendly staff, will definitely be back.
Excellent food and quick service, but the women's bathroom needs cleaning.
