Stopped by for happy hour 3-6pm. Great selection of craft beer and appetizers. We ordered the lime pepper fries, humus, buffalo boneless wings and cauliflower. They were all amazing and cost $5 a piece. Waitress was nice and accomodating. Foods was out quickly. Great atmosphere. Best thing is that happy hour menu available throughout the restaurant, and not just the bar. Highly recommend and would definitely come back.
All around great experience. Seating was plentiful and comfy, wait staff was nice. Got the chili lime fries, and my gf said "These might be the best sweet potato fries ever". Menu had lots of fun options, burgers were big and had fair amounts of toppings. Beer flights are the same price per oz as normal beers, which makes it fun to drink. Waiter came by and gave us an extra sample cup each because he thought it would be good with our order. Quite pricy, but a good rare treat ($15 entrees, $7 beers). Also walked out with a 6 pack of a new favorite I discovered in my flight, can't wait to drink it!
Only complaint: dumb 4% surcharge added onto the bill "to cover increased costs and minimum wage" blah blah blah. Like everyone else here says, just raise your prices 4%. This is a scummy way of doing it.
Great spot in La Jolla for beers & food! Great happy hour deals, and to top it off a very friendly and helpful staff! Thank you! Loved our flight and food
Incredible service and selection of beers—the server who helped us was poignant with his suggestions in sampling beers (and samples are free)—he even suggested one beer in particular that was going to be my next order! The Shrimp Po Boy and the Chipotle Pastrami were both amazing. Highly recommend!
The beer was good and they let us try samples before committing to one! I got the shrimp po’boy which was awesome - highly recommend. Their food is very creative and what we tried, we really liked. My boyfriend got the schnitzel sliders that were the monthly pairing for the October fest beer. Also good, but a very small portion. The pretzel buns were really good though. They add on a 4% surcharge for service which was weird. They say it is for food prices rising - why not just charge more for food? Strange concept to me.
Beer was great and honestly, they have food that pairs impeccably with the brews they serve. Had the grilled sausages and I was definitely impressed! The mixture of greens and sweet po fries in the middle was an unexpected hit for me 👌
Note: this place is pretty kid friendly, which was a big plus for us!
Great Place to eat and enjoy tasty, good beer! The service is absolutely terrific. They even offered us a free beer tasting during and after lunch. So if you are in La Jolla Karl Strauss is an absolutely Must Go!

We visit from AZ to LaJolla every year and stop at Karl Strauss religiously. The atmosphere, the people the food and beer is always on par. Their draft menu is diverse and delicious.
I ordered water melon salad and it was delicious. I also enjoyed Red Trolley a lot. Friendly and fast service. Strongly recommend this place when you are in La Jolla.
I'm not a beer guy, but I was in the area and decided to try and find a beer I actually like. The waitstaff were very nice, especially my server Alex. Alex helped me discover a variety of flavors that even I can appreciate in beer. Whether you're a fan of beer or not, I highly recommend you try one of their beer flights. This place is for anyone who likes alcohol.
