Been coming here with my family since 1977 back when John and his partner tossed noodles at your table, and Ray tried to sell his fake swiss watches, the best chinese food I have ever had!!! Love this place and the food!

Still one of my favorites in sd. Took my chef friend here who has eaten all over the world and he still talks about a dish we had here. The hot and sour soup still reminds me of my childhood and still just as amazing. Love this place!

The MH is hands down the best Chines food I've ever had. Everything is handmade and delicious, even the sauces (because sweet and sour out of a jar is so lame!) Highly highly recommend it.

We had a great evening at Mandarin House in La Jolla. The food was great. The atmosphere was warm and cozy and our waiter was very friendly and most accommodating. We can't wait for our next occasion to celebrate at Mandarin House.

This place is an amazing family owned business, Nelson Law has been passed the torch and it's on fire! The service and food are top notch! The orange beef or as we call it, "meat candy" is not to be missed! The tiki drinks are awesome too! A San Diego institution! Do yourself a favor go to MH LaJolla!

Very best shrimp toasts and crispy beef. Waiters are rude. Go for dinner and it's always crowded. Good reason why- it is so good!

From the moment we stepped into Mandarin House in Bird Rock, La Jolla, we knew we were in for a culinary treat. The cozy and welcoming ambiance set the stage for what was an unforgettable dining experience. We started with the Salt and Pepper Wings and Fried Dumplings. The wings were a perfect blend of crispy and savory, with just the right amount of seasoning to tickle the taste buds. The dumplings were a delightful surprise, golden and crisp on the outside, with a succulent filling that melted in the mouth. The Crispy Duck was a showstopper, cooked to perfection with a crispy skin that gave way to tender, flavorful meat. But the real star of the evening was the Upside-Down Pan Fried Noodles. This dish was a masterful display of textures and flavors, combining perfectly cooked noodles with a mix of savory sauces and fresh ingredients. The service was nothing short of amazing. Attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, the server made us feel like honored guests, ensuring that every aspect of our meal was perfect. In summary, Mandarin House is not just a restaurant; it's a culinary journey that delights the senses. Whether you're a local or just passing through Bird Rock, this is a dining experience you don't want to miss. We left with satisfied palates and the promise to ourselves to return soon.

Our inaugural dining experience here left us thoroughly pleased. The food surpassed our expectations with excellence on every plate. I opted for the Sizzling Chicken, while my husband indulged in the Kung Pao Chicken—both dishes were served piping hot and freshly prepared. Although the waiter was a bit abrupt, his service was excellent, and the overall quality of the food left us content. Without a doubt, we plan to return for another visit.

The Mandarin House has delicious food. The 1st night our server was professional and attentive. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. The last night, I ate here alone and instead of getting a table, I told the server I would sit at the bar to avoid taking up a table. The restaurant was very packed. The owner was my server at the bar and he didn't have a service type of personality. I almost left like I was bothering him. He turned my previously good experience into a bad one.

Best Chinese food we've been able to find. The service is not as good on a busy night so try to go during less busy times. The atmosphere is a little bit throwback 50s/60s chintzy on purpose, so if you can't handle that, then don't go. It's a wonderful landmark restaurant that's been around forever in downtown La Jolla. It's great to see it still in business since so many places of old La Jolla are gone. Please keep this place going.

We are visiting and this place was such an experience. We had the chicken corn soup, fried wonton, Mongolian beef, popcorn shrimp, fried rice and the YZ fried rice (date night special). The serving sizes were more than ample. The beef just seemed to dissolve on my tongue because it was so tender and full of flavor. The staff seemed to work well together and I would recommend this place to those living in or visiting the San Diego area.

It was our first time dining her and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent. I had Sizzling chicken and my husband had Kung Pao chicken. Both dishes were hot and freshly made. The waiter was a bit abrupt but he gave excellent service and the food was very good so we were happy. We will definitely go there again.

It's a really nice place, fair pricing and food was good. I had orange chicken, it tasted very good and strong orange taste which I liked, but I'd rather it be crispy and it wasn't at all. It looked like it should be though. But it was very good. My wife had chicken with snow peas in a light sauce, she thought it needed salt. But that's it, pretty good overall and service was very good too.

This is one of those restaurants I've driven by and never stopped at....and then I did. So good. Food was amazing, service friendly and accommodating. Couldn't be happier and will stop in every time I'm in the area. RUN don't walk.

Came here today for the first time. It was outstanding! It was very clean, the service was excellent and the food was delish! We had salt and pepper chicken wings(the best I’ve ever had), hot and sour soup, egg drop soup, pork wontons and the crispy beef. The beef actually came out crispy which most places is comes soggy. Everything tasted so fresh. Our server, who I assume was the owner, was very pleasant and attentive. Before we even finished our meal my boyfriend and I were already planning our next visit. Everything, including the beer and wine was so reasonably priced. Will be back again and again! 10/10 recommend!

Absolute BEST Chinese food I have ever had. We’ve loved everything that we’ve tried! Our typical order is orange chicken, kung pao beef, lo mein and egg rolls. We just tried the hot and sour soup for the first time today and it was amazing. We get take out from here often and I’ll literally be craving it the next day. Also the owners are so nice!

I love this place. Service is always on point. Portions are large. I love their crab ragoons & egg drop soup. The chop suey is so fresh & colorful. I also get the Garlic shrimp. #tasty. They have happy hour from 4-6 on their drinks during the week. I love seating in the spacious red booths. I highly recommend this place . Weekends are always crowded. Thursday when they open is my fave time to go. It does fills up quickly. Parking out front, but parking around the neighborhood & on street.
