Checked out this awesome Chinese spot recently, and it totally hit the spot! The comfort food was on point, packed with flavors that made my taste buds do a happy dance. Plus, the service was quick and no-nonsense – they got things rolling in no time. If you're into tasty grub without the wait, this place is a solid pick. Thumbs up! 🌟
The restaurant is open for take-out or patio seating only. The dishes were all delicious. I absolutely loved the candied walnut shrimp. My son asked for his twice cooked pork dish extra spicy and they delivered. Even though the dining room was closed, they gave us paper plates and plastic utensils for patio use. They did check on us!
You would be remiss to dismiss your meal on a gem like this! You’ve got the wonderful Grace running the shop with her quick and efficient staff. The dining area is eclectic and gives me the vibes of a k drama where there’s just a uniqueness to it that you can’t find with main stream restaurants. The food was amazing, authentic wok cooked meals for our orders. Unlike a few places that we’ve gone to, the service and the food was crazy fast, crazy good. Grace and her husband Kai have set up the restaurant very efficiently where you phone orders and you have 5 tables at the restaurant. The place is SO good that for our four nights here in Maui, we HAD to go again!! We ordered the Mongolian beef, cashew chicken, DELICIOUS crispy wontons, and the mapo tofu and the braised tofu with mushrooms. My wife and I wish Grace and her crew all the best and to continue with their passion of cooking and success. Mahalo!!
Let’s go!!!
Just like others said, they have really good food. (I’m Asian)
We had Kung Pao Chicken, General Tso’s Chicken, Shrimp with vegetables.
Everything was freshly made & had really good flavor.
Note that as of today, June 16, 2022 they only accept to-go orders / dining room is closed I’m assuming to prevent the spread of Covid & keep people safe.
My wife & I vacation on Maui & recently discovered this gem of a restaurant. The food we ordered was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is a small & cozy Chinese restaurant which is located in an outdoor atmosphere but currently not seating inside due to Covid. The service & atmosphere is very tranquil, polite & catering by what seems to be a family run business. Grace was our waitress & she was polite, nice & very good hosting & providing your meal.
We had a very good Mai Tai cocktail which was great! The food is 100% authentic and day fresh. I liked the touch of a slightly fried steam dumpling which were delicious along with the excellent soup. We shared an order of Hawaii style coconut & pineapple shrimp also delicious.
The restaurant serves the food in containers which is OK with me and you conveniently helped or serve yourself. (Due to Covid prevention)
I am sure that the idea is to keep the meals at the tables sanitary. Remember, enter with an Aloha spirt you will be treated mutually. I saw a lot of families comfortably eating there. You can also order to go but we decided to enjoy the laidback atmosphere. My wife and I both give the place a 10+ & we have been to many Chinese restaurants. The atmosphere was relaxing and the prices were fair with a lot of leftovers.
I know we will be back next time we are in Maui. LOL, only wish they delivered to NY.. ;)
Mahalo
Very friendly staff, amazing flavor and freshness for all food. I got scallops with brown mushrooms and bamboo, boys got beef and peppers. Nice outdoor seating also. Really a great find to walk to from Royal Kahana.
Although they were only open for take-out they had a patio area where you could sit and eat. The owners were very pleasant and even brought your take-out to the table. They food was excellent, more than enough to share. So glad we turned aroud!
Excellent service and very friendly - the food is to die for , I saw some neg comments but mainly about the price- but this is like cooked at home fresh and so delicious every single plate - and I honestly never choose to eat Chinese food but my family and I loved it !!! I highly recommend, take a little time from your trip and try their family food like cooked at home !!!
Delicious food, great service, and decent prices! My wife and I chose China Boat as our first meal after a long day of flying. Sitting inconspicuously on Lower Honoapiilani Rd it is easy to pass if you are not looking for the sign out front.
Upon entering, a casual but comfortable atmosphere with an outdoor patio and parking lot on site. The view from the patio is nothing special but was covered and gave us the option from sitting inside. We were quickly waited on and service was great.
The food was hot, fresh, filling and delicious! We ordered the General Tso's,sweet and sour chicken, crab rangoon, water and chose white rice. Our price with tip, $52.00.
I highly recommend this place and would not hesitate going back!
Excellent option. Food is delicious. Drinks very well prepared. And service is really good and fast. They have their own parking lot.
I recommend you the fry calamari and their pineapple seafood fry rice is awesome.
Our side sitting.
We got take out here twice during our week long Maui stay. The food was terrific. We had Mongolian Beef, Sweet n Sour Pork and the Cashew Chicken along with Chicken Chow Mein. All were delicious. Good portions, decent prices, highly recommended.
Takeout only & call to order before picking up, they do have a few tables situated in their parking lot for you to eat at if you’d like. Authentic (by my own very Chinese parent’s words) Chinese dishes with very affordable prices compared to other restaurants along the coast. Great tasting food; they claim they don’t use MSG but I wouldn’t be surprised and would be glad if they did!
It's recommended by local Chinese. I would say they are tasted relative authentic. A kind of Huai Nan Chinese cooking style, where is in the middle of China so combined half south and north taste of China. Even in China, it's a very acceptable cooking cuisine to most of Chinese (China have at least 8 cuisine style, and sometime even hard to be acceptable by people not used to live with).
For foreigner, I would suggest to take the suggestion from waiter for choosing. But I would say, none of them is not delicious.
If you're craving Chinese food on Maui, you have very few options. However, if you're on the West side, you're in luck! As I write this review, we're still in pandemic mode, so there is no indoor seating here at China Boat Restaurant. BUT, they do offer outdoor seating on their patio! It's still treated like takeout, so call your order in if you don't want to wait around. The food will come out in takeout containers. Thankfully, they can offer a selection of adult beverages as well, and they're more than happy to keep that second beverage in the cooler until you finish off the first.
My party of two ordered the sizzling rice soup, kungpao tofu, shrimp with lobster sauce, and sautéed string beans. Was it overkill? For sure - their portions were generous, and we ended up taking half of the food home with us. Did we regret it? Not at all! My only regret was not bringing more people so we could try more of their dishes.
Personally, I would probably wait until regular dining returns to order the sizzling rice soup. By the time I opened the soup's to-go container and doled out the goods, there was no sizzle! It was definitely my fault - I got side tracked by a conversation when I should have served it up as soon as it hit the table. The staff was kind enough to provide us with disposable plates and utensils, but the soup bowls were the real thing, as were the soup spoons.
My sidekick for the evening is the one who picked out the kungpao tofu, and they were very happy with their selection. As a lover of kungpao anything, I was surprised by the mildness of the heat. However, since this is primarily a tourist area, I'm sure it's a was a conscious move.
The shrimp with lobster sauce and green beans were delish. I forgot to mention earlier that we ordered a side of rice. That's a no-brainer if you're planning to eat the shrimp with lobster sauce. After putting my first serving of it on my plate, I changed tactics with my 2nd and 3rd servings by using my soup bowl. Having the dish over rice in a bowl was far superior to eating it from a plate. Why? Because bowls can be brought up to your mouth. Much better for shoveling... haha.
Another mistake I made was to not immediately open the green bean container (and leave it open). I love the garlicky goodness of sautéed green beans, but leave them to steam in their own take-out container and you lose a lot of the crispness.
For those concerned, China Boat uses no MSG. Also, they're the winners of the 2020 Best of Maui award for Chinese Food. Hopefully I get to come back and sample more of their dishes. If there's anything you like here in particular, please let me know!
This place has fantastic food. My friend Becki who’s lived on Maui for many years gets takeout a lot from them and luckily we picked up dinner here on The way home from the airport for my first night on Maui. What a treat and because it was huge servings, we enjoyed breakfast leftovers the next day. Couldn’t be more grateful for this place. Mahalo
Was greeted by two friendly ladies the Food was amazing and the service was Great will be going back several times while were here in Maui get the Walnut Shrimp and the House fried rice for sure Thanks
Mongolian beef and sauteed string beans are the best. A must try Chinese food in the area. Price is affordable. Service is good too. Hope that they continue to thrive as they survived COVID.
Looking for a place to get some quick food after a morning of snorkeling. Happy to find this place and order over the phone. We ordered several items and a delicious passion fruit tea so ended up paying $80 for lunch with a tip but the food really was amazing!
