This is a true Lansing gem. I am incredibly proud of the owners, Moe and Mi, and their commitment to the community. This is where I always take people from out-of-town, or friends who have never been. I have never had a friend who didn't like this spot and they continue to be repeat customers. The restaurant appears to be in an old dentist office or something of the like, but don't let the appearance fool you. This is the best food in town. Period. Highly recommend the Pickled Tea Leaf salad, the weekend special (Fish Curry Soup), and the Larb salad. Thank you for bringing your food, culture, and spirit to our community. We love you!! <3

One of the best restaurants in town... Possibly the best. Something like you might expect to find on chef Anthony Bourdain's exotic cuisine travelog series. The food is perfection. If you like the Asian cuisine you will find the Burmese, Thai, and Malaysian food a treasure trove. Run don't walk to this restaurant. This is better than most other restaurants in town. The beef curry (my favorite) is exceptional...as is the tom yum soup, the pickled tea leaf salad, the green papaya and peanut salad, and everything here. The flavors are subtle, sometimes spicy (they ask your preference), but perfectly balanced. It's perfect for someone with an adventurous or discerning palate, or just anyone who loves good food. And the prices are more than reasonable. The owners are quiet and gracious and it has a family atmosphere. It is a jewel for South Lansing, an incredible find. Once you eat here, you will feel yourself pulled back again and again.

My wife and I enjoyed this place for the first time last Saturday. Ignore the outer appearance and go inside. Newly renovated and very clean. The food was spectacular. The picture menu really helped making a decision. We will be back to try more!

Great food- it feels like you are eating at a friend's house. Feel free to offer strangers a seat at your table, it's really fun and helps preserve space! I love the fermented tea leaf dish, can't remember what it's called, but it is great! Specials on Friday- I also love the coconut soup. Go eat their food!

Came here for the very first time with my wife. My wife found this place because we were attending an event in Lansing. We arrived slightly right after they opened so there wasn't anybody else there so we were wondering if we wanted to go in. We gave it a shot and we're glad we did. The foods were very authentic and yummy and priced reasonably. And the staffs were polite and nice too. It's an hour drive from where we live but we will definitely come back again and try other menu. Btw, I'm from Malaysia so I know how authentic the foods are.

A gem hidden in worn down strip mall is the understatement of understatement. Naing’s is everything one could want in authentic Southeast Asian cuisine. A family run business that’s sears around 20. If you have to wait, don’t sweat it, when food arrives your tastebuds will thank you and demand you return time and time again. The menu is presented both in type and in a photo album so if you haven’t heard of dish you can get an understanding of it. Try EVERYTHING! Lansing is lucky to have this establishment and I’m jealous of the city for it, but I’ll happily drive up just for lunch.

The best restaurant in Lansing. A hole in the wall off South Cedar with food that will make you come back AGAIN and AGAIN.

Having spent time in SE Asia, I can tell you that the food at this delightful little restaurant is incredibly good and about as authentic as you are going to get here in Michigan. The people are warm and friendly and visited our table to chat. See if that happens in some of the so-called upper crust restaurants in town. I will be returning frequently and I heartily recommend this delightful little restaurant to any one who enjoys this type of food. Yes, they are located in a depressed area. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the quality of the food and the genuineness of the lovely couple that run it. It reminded me of some of the places I used to hang out in many years ago. Most of them were also located in areas such as this one is. I can only hope that they can overcome the difficulties they have faced reently. I would hate to see this restaurant disappear...

Food was great and cheap but go in expecting to wait a while for your food I was with four other people so it took a while to get served buy I do recommend the food I tried a few things but ordered the # 9 very good food worth the long wait.

This restaurant is the epitome of a hidden gem. Ive brought all of my friends here and I love the look on their face when we pull up, but then we get out food and everything seems to make sense to them after that. The restaurant is ran by a family that takes the orders and cooks the food. So if you are used to a fast paced chain restaurant, don't come here because usually it is just one of them waiting on all of the customers. A lot of regulars come in and will help them if they are busy. Overall, the food is amazing. My favorite though is the Pad Thai.

I have been back to this restaurant a few times since I discovered it after buying a house around the corner. Their food is absolutely fantastic and it's always fresh. The service is good, this is a small family owned restaurant that is never truly "busy." I have ordered different things every time I have visited and taken different friends/family with me as well. The prices are impossible to beat, as is the authenticity of the food. I will continue to come back again and again for as long as I can.

Best Thai in town. Love the full photo menu. Great playing and presentation. Building is nothing fancy, but this place is a gem. My husband & I discovered it on a date night & have craved it since.

I decided to eat here based on all the super positive reviews and, honestly, I'm really not sure what the fuss is all about. First, as many of the other reviews admit, the location is preposterously bad and I'd add risky. As somebody who grew up in the rougher parts of Detroit, and is actively involved in personal security/defense/law enforcement circles (and is also 6'8"...), this decaying remnant of a strip mall, and the characters around it, made my spidey senses tingle. If you come here, I would suggest not coming alone and not at night.
With that out of the way, let's discuss the restaurant. The interior is palatable, but rough and awkwardly finished. The staff seemed to be very friendly, but don't speak English very well, BUT had the delightful foresight to actually create binders of PHOTOS of every dish instead of trying to explain them in broken English. I LOVE THIS!! I've long said that EVERY restaurant should do this! I mean think about the fact that every French Dip menu description is nearly identical, but the sandwiches you wind up with can vary wildly. Show me a pic and we're in business! But I digress... I ordered a Thai Iced Tea, the Fried Bottle Gourd, and Shrimp Pad Thai. The tea came first and was pretty standard Thai tea, but served over ice. The Fried Gourd was as pictured and was reminiscent of a tempura battered zucchini. The dipping sauce was AWESOME. Cilantro, with earthy, spicy, creaminess all mixed together. Very good. The Pad Thai was as pictured, served under a blanket of egg cut open to reveal the noodles below. Here's where I diverge from the other reviewers claiming this place has the best Thai food. The Pad Thai was OK, but far from the best. For $7 the portion was generous and it did have a surprising total of 5 medium sized shrimp, but overall it was not a particularly good Pad Thai. The noodles were over cooked and mushy, the sauce wasn't quite right (I'm not sure there was any Tamarind at all, and it was pretty much missing the sweet element), and it was almost pasty in texture. I'd probably forego it in favor of something else if I make another trip here. There are some pretty good looking dishes in the photo binder ( the Fried Rice Vermicelli looks to be a variation of Singapore Noodles which I enjoy enough that I make them at home quite often). Everything did seem fresh, so there's that. And I agree that the prices do make it a pretty impressive value. I'd say give them a try, but definitely maintain some situational awareness in the parking lot.

Great place!!. This place is so great! I've never had anything here that I didn't like and most of the stuff I flat out love! The Friday/Saturday specials are particularly and I try to hit them once every couple of months. This food is really authentic and really good. it is family owned and run. The husband waits on table and the wife cooks. Their cute little boy is usually asleep in his car seat thingie or someone is holding him. A real family restaurant. The people are really nice and you should all go there!

It is in a little abandoned looking side strip mall but do not let the looks put you off. The food is the best Thai in town. The garlic chicken is heavenly and on Friday and Saturday they serve a chicken curry appetizer with the most amazing made on the spot bread. Also on Friday and Saturday, the shen noodles, either dry or as a soup is wonderful. I like it best as soup but it is good either way.

So, go there! Eat there! Tell everyone you know about this place!

I've been yearning for real Tom Yum soup and finally found it. Exquisite! Best Tom Yum we have found outside of Thailand. Not a fancy neighborhood, but neat and clean, comfortable interior and pleasant, cooperative wait staff. Very reasonable prices. We look forward to returning many times to enjoy their authentic Thai/Burmese food.

Best ethnic food in Lansing, hands down!. A terrible location, a nominal interior and a friendly but stretched thin waitstaff (of 1) are all completely forgotten in light of what is THE best ethnic food in Lansing! All Mediterranean, Indian, sushi, and other Thai locations in Lansing and East Lansing do not offer the rustic and elegant flavors of the dishes here. And the prices are incredible! Try the Tom Yum soup, or the MIND BLOWING Pickled Tea Leaves. Yeah, it sounded a little unusual to me too at first, and who would want to eat a purely vegetarian entrée, right? But I literally crave that dish daily now!

Fresh and Delicious. Just had dinner here at the recommendation of a co-worker and I'm really glad I did. The food was SO good, the service efficient and unobtrusive, the prices modest. Each table has a photo album of the menu items, which I think is a great idea. I ordered Pad Kee Mos, which tasted like yummy home cooking, and Thai tea. Both were delicious, and the offering of a few watermelon fingers at the end of the meal made a lovely, cool finish.

Wow!. As of this writing, this is arguably the best SE Asian restaurant in the area, and one of the best places around, period. The food is obviously prepared with pride and attention to detail. This means you WILL have to wait for it- when we went, there seemed to be only one server and two people in back cooking. Dishes come out one at a time. Everything is attractively presented, and it tastes even better than it looks. The pickled tea leaf salad, from the Burmese section of the menu, was especially fantastic. We'll be going back for sure.

If you're one of the people who thinks the area is "scary", stay away and let the rest of us have the seating.

This is my favorite restaurant in the area. It is a hole in the wall and you may wait a bit for food but well worth it. My favourites are pad thai, papaya salad, and thai tea. I try to come here every time I'm in the area. Definitely a must go in Lansing!

Had the #6 fermented tea leaf salad and #34 Fried beef w/squid sauce. Very generous portions and incredible flavor, it was delicious and the kind of meal that makes you feel better after, invigorating. Can't wait to visit again, thank you. Enjoyed the store, too!

This is an authentic, take-out only, family owned Myanmar/Thai restaurant. They also have an Asian grocery store inside of their restaurant. We especially love their Shah noodles and Ginger Bean salad. Their food is authentically spiced - we never find the same type of food at any other restaurant in the Lansing area.

Very good food. The strip mall might look sketchy but the food is worth it! The actual shop is very clean and the staff is so nice. Don't be surprised, though, if you go in and don't get served right away. There is only 3 people working there and only one person on the floor. It is worth the wait!

My favorite Burmese restaurant ever! Delicious and very affordable! I am saying this even after I tried some famous highly rated Burmese in San Francisco! It is the only store open in this plaza. Don't be surprised and just walking in. The staff are soooo nice too!
