Delicious food, great friendly service. Coming back for more on menu !
Not gourmet, but good eastern food. The gyro was good, quality ingredients. I've had had gyro's from other places where it is iceburg lettuce and a few pieces of meat. Here it was actual greens, and cucumbers and flavorful meat.
The tabbouleh that came with the platters was pretty tasty too, I enjoyed it.
Unfortunately the hummus was kinda bland and not worth getting. The pita bread, however was delicious and homemade.
Overall atmosphere was dingy, and the bathrooms definitely needed cleaned.
Wouldn't go here for a family meal out, but it was great for take-out.
Awesome Food!. Visited for the first time today and will definitely be coming back! I had the falafel platter--hands down the best falafel I've ever had. My husband went with the chicken kebobs and potato and chickpea curries--he said it was incredible. I also loved the plain, sweetened lassi I ordered. It's hard to find restaurants that please both me (vegetarian) and my husband (ominivore)--this one has just been added to our list!
I had a great experience . Food was great . Service was friendly and accommodating .
Terribly consistent at being terrific!. This place continues to be my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant in this area. Never had a bad meal here!
Meat or Veggie - GOOD food. My latest trip to this restaurant confirms that Gourmet SK is consistently good. I've been there for lunch and dinner a couple times and today's lunch was excellent. I had the Vegetarian Platter. The stuffed grape leaves were good. The tabbouleh fresh and the best I've had in this area; fresh and full of flavor. The hummus and freshly made flat bread topped off an outstanding meal.
Hands down the best kebobs and nan ever!. Before we talk patriotism and politics, let me firstly say, GOURMENT SHISH KEBAB has the best kebobs, and nan I have ever had (and I have been long searching), and their sides are wonderful (curried spinach, potatoes, etc.)
I started eating here years ago, when I passed by while visiting my family in the internationally recognized ghetto of Laurel ;) I considered it quite the find, considering what I thought of much of the other food available in the area. As time progressed, I discovered that GOURMET SHISH KEBAB has become what I consider to be the pinnacle example of what kebabs and nan should be.
Did I mention the nan? What's the deal here? Why is there nan so good? How can it be at once like a warm fluffy pillow, yet so crispy and delicious I've never had one actually make it home for dinner... seriously!
Numerous variety of kebabs are available, and their seasoned ground beef "khafta" kebab, is beyond compare, and their lamb shish, is at once tender yet crispy. All too often I have found other kebabs to be dry, but not here. The preparation and seasoning are excellent, and in all my searching I have not found better. All who have tried and have search have agreed. Be forewarned they are prepared to order so this isn't the fastest food (which is good).
I blame this place for making me love and crave spinach, which I never previously liked. All their side vegetables are prepared with a wonderful blend of curry, not necessarily hot, but soooo flavourful.
THE POLITICS... Yes sometime back this place was embroiled in an Iraqi spy ring, and the owner (or so I thought he was) was arrested, tried, and fully admitted his guilt. I'll freely admit, that my visits fell off after that, and I sought to satiate my kebab fix elsewhere... unsuccessfully. :( After a year or so I stopped back in one hungry afternoon, only to once again have the man who was convicted take my order. I was a little surprised to find him there, when it seemed he had only been convicted so recently. He was pleasant as usual (as is his wife who runs the kitchen I think), and I was reminded how good the food there is. I wondered a bit about how he might still be working there so soon after his conviction (I remember a jail sentence), So I assume he must have cooperated fully and was no threat (believable from what I know of him).
Leave the politics aside, and treat yourself to the best kebabs and nan around. If you can't leave the politics aside, then consider perhaps a life sentence of having to serve delicious food? I'll call that one of the few times justice (and my stomach) has been served :)
Delicious!. Love them. I always get their chicken jalfarazzi and spinich and potatoes. Just writing about them is making me hungry and I had them for dinner. They'll always be my favorite.
THE BEST FOOD I'VE HAD IN A LONG TIME. I visited shish kebab for the first time last week and I have fallen in love with their food. The owners are wonderful and the food is definetly authentic. I read the review by "SUE" and wanted to let her know that she's really missing out. Leave politics to the politicians and enjoy the good food. I highly recommend the Lamb chops.
Awesome. This place is great. Don't be a jerk and stop going there just because the owner plead guilty to being a "spy". Nothing says authentic like a little international espionage. Actually, since the news story broke, i've seen more people there than before. God bless America.
Used to be favorite. This used to be my favorite restaurant in Laurel. The kebabs were wonderful and the owners very nice. But I won't be going back because the owner has pleaded guilty to being an Iraqi spy.

Good Eats. Don't let the shabby exterior and gruff owner fool you. This is the place to get Middle Eastern Food in the Laurel area. The food is reasonably priced and the taste is out of this world. The Turkish coffee was prepared with cardimon and tasted great.
