Great place, food is good. The owner is a very kind and humble man who cares about his customers. I did not know the owner before we walked into his business however after we received our food he came and talked to us and acted like we were his best friends. He even went back to get some applesauce for our 6 month old who was being a little fussy. Wish all business owners cared as much as thus man.
This is not a chain. It is a mom-n-pop shop. The food is served in Styrofoam with paper cups and plastic forks. There are saddles on the banister and antique guns on the walls. The food is some of the best I have had. Of them all, burnt ends is my favorite. The only time you can get them is Friday at lunch, but you better be there early because they sometimes sell out before noon. While the food is great, the people there are amazing. They are what makes it a joy to go there. My hats off to the staff and owners!!
I’ve had a lot of bbq over the past 20 years and I️ rank holysmokesbbq with the best I’ve ever had! Great work Jeff and Julie Ray!
Just was looking for a barbecue place in the area and came across this on Google. Turn out to be a great meal, great people, excellent ambience.
Some of the best BBQ I've had in a long time, the sides were excellent. Highly recommended!!
My favorite BBQ place in town.
Plenty of food and lots of different sauces to choose from.
Love the fried pickles and of course the ribs.
This place is amazing best brisket and BBQ sauce I have ever tried!
We enjoyed the food, very nicely smoked meats, and the sauces. Buffalo chips were also very desirable. We live out of state but hope to stop by again and visit this fun and quirky place.
I absolutely love this place! It's my go-to recommendation for people to experience one of Layton's best restaurants!
The food was incredible, the people were fantastic, and everything was clean!
Took my wife to lubch got the ribs and pulled pork. Tastey and we enjoyd laughing at the quips and such on the menu.
I have been wanting to try this place for years my mom and I finally made it there tonight. Service was great and food was even better! Love the atmosphere and humor in everything there ! Well done. We will be back!
4.7 Stars, Great tasting BBQ, been here many times, always good food. Place is always busy and seating is hard too find at times, now most recent it got smaller inside. Did take out earlier in the week got the lunch specials, both were great, sliced brisket and tri tip sandwiches.... Later that week hot it up and tried the burger, I was pretty impressed, fresh juicy and most importantly great tasting burger.

I'm kind of particular when it comes to BBQ meats. The wifey and I shared the big Round up Sampler. It has tons of meat, cornbread, and 3 sides. My forever favorite is the brisket, next I'd say were the ribs and last the chicken and pulled pork. All the BBQ sauces were fun to try. Next time I'll just get the brisket. If I had to be a "Karen" about something, the sofa machine was about out of carbonation because my Dr Pepper tasted two days old.
Okay, I grew up loving BBQ. I found Holy Smoke on the internet and knew I'd love the food from their sense of humor. I ordered the platter, soooooo yummy. The menu is hilarious and the description on the bbq sauces are beyond funny.
I will definitely be back, time and time again. Better than the bbq I remember growing up.
I’m a big bbq fan and after living in Texas for several years I’m always on the hunt for good places outside of Texas. I must say this place was fantastic! Everything was cooked and presented how it should! The ribs and brisket had a beautiful smoke ring! The staff was very friendly and the menu options were great! The sample platter was worth the money for two to share for sure!

Well, for not being from the South, these folks are right on target. When the sweet tea tastes like your Texas Granny made it, that's a good start. Brisket was amazing and my husband said the wings were better that he's had in a long time. Everything we ordered had a perfect flavor and they offered a BBQ sauce for anyone's taste. Plus the folks that run the place are down to earth and great to talk with. We'll definitely be back!
Been a fan of Holy Smoke since moving to Layton and go there regularly for BBQ. I really like their selection of sauces and how you can mix them as well. I like adding some of the hot BBQ sauce to the fry sauce for dipping onion rings and hot spots. The sampler is my favorite for ordering for my family as it gives a good amount of food. My wife likes the quarter chicken and I like the trip tip sandwich when they do them. Recommend a visit and watch their hours before you visit.
Update: over a year later and still bringing the goods. Recipes ain't changed and the food still amazing!
After 2 visits I am glad to say the Pulled Pork, and sides are on point!
Your greeted by the smell of smoked meats soon as you walkin which is usually a good sign of things to come. Hush puppies, fried okra, fried pickles, baked, beans, sweet tea.
Many sauce options to choose from.
The staff is friendly, the buns soft, & the food hot and flavorful.
No complaints!
My new and only BBQ spot, meow!
As a person who grew up in Texas and smoke pits most of my life I have to say I loved this place for everything they were doing. The people inside were even better than the food. Extremely welcoming and kind. But the food was a knockout. The brisket was chopped perfectly for digging into, the smoked chicken wings gave a nice bite if you get the spiciest, and the ribs had the perfect amount of bark all over. Their sauces really ramped up the flavor combos that were available. The white sauce went perfectly for the fried jalapeno bites while the sweet kiss sauce multiplied the flavor that came out of the brisket. And their mashed potatoes and gravy??? After eating that I just wished they had a Salisbury Steak for me to have gotten to go. If their beef gravy is that good then it would make that steak even better. Wishing I wasn't from Texas and visiting because the need to try everything here is intense but it's such an amazing spot.
Absolutely delightful bbq with a very quaint atmosphere. The servers will learn your name before long and you can tell the food is made with care. Highly recommend this little spot!
Today, I had one of their Tues./Thurs. Lunch specials! The Tri-Tip sandwich, it was very tasty but by no means was it a Santa Maria style BBQ flavor... Since I’m from the area (Santa Maria, CA), I decided to give the owner some tips that would make these sell like hot cakes! We shall see if he implements some simple changes! I hope he continues to serve it and more often than lunch time on Tuesday and Thursday! Would give them Five stars if this was a more authentic flavor!
My favorite BBQ place near me! Come and support your locals. Unfortunately the cost of food going up, short on staffing, and renovations or closing of nearby companies/restaurants, have caused a direct negative impact on the owner. I’m hoping they will be okay. When I went today, they still had a good amount of customers. And of course the food was fantastic!
My favorite restaurant to go to whenever I visit Layton. Usually crowded at lunch and for good reason. Good prices and delicious BBQ. Lots of sides to choose from too. Fountain drinks and 3 kinds of tea. Lots of sauces to pick from, at least 10. Everything tastes great there. They also have blue bunny ice cream. If you've never had it, do it. Friendly staff with fast service.
Incredible BBQ at an incredible price. Great smoked flavor in the meat. Perfectly cooked corn bread. Average Mac and cheese. Some of the best hush puppies you'll find in Utah. Awesome customer service.
Top notch everything! I went with a friend and split the sampler plate, which was a great way to try a lot of their menu. The ribs were our favorite. The fried pickles and ranch were also awesome.
As mentioned, this place is just as authentic as any BBQ you'd get in the south. :)
It’s hard when the current pandemic sends shockwaves through local food haunts; however, holy smoke bbq seems to be turning the other cheek and gracing their customers with wit and a fun ambiance.
As for the food, unfortunately I am a victim of high expectations. While the food was overall tasty, after reading the previous reviews, I was ready for exceptional. The brisket was a bit dry and I personally wasn’t a fan of the coleslaw.
However! The pork ribs and beans were delicious and the red head worker was bubbly and extremely nice and helpful
Pretty good barbeque and an excellent assortment of sauces. I ordered their three meat plate with brisket, pulled pork, and hot sausage. The brisket was a little dry but everything tasted good. I got their hot spot (fried jalepenos) and mac n' cheese sides. Nothing really impressive about the sides.
Some of the best barbeque I have paid for.
Been here a few times now and have enjoyed everything this far.
My running favorite is the Burnt Ends. The only down side is they are only available on Friday.
This is a favorite place for a few people I know. If you like barbeque I would recommend you give these guys a try.
Hush puppies and corn muffins were SO good! My favorites of the meal. Also staff was really friendly & the restaurant signs inside were a great laugh! 😊
$15 for 2 meats and 2 sides. I got beef brisket, and fried Catfish. Mashed sweet potatoes and coleslaw for the sides. The Chipotle sauce was delicious. Catfish was nice and not dry. It was good, albeit a bit expensive for portion size imo.
