Kinda place that just draws you in and says come eat here... Good food, clean, friendly and just a nice spot to stop!
Was driving thru the area and was craving ribs, happened to pass by Burge's and decided to stop. I ordered the combination platter and, since smoked turkey is one of their specialties, I ordered the turkey melt to try. It was DELICIOUS!!! Best smoked turkey I've ever had, so tasty.
The sliced pork & beef were okay but the ribs and turkey were so good, I decided to buy a slab n a lb to take back home to Jax.
Will definitely eat there again when I'm around the area. Also, definitely recommend it. Modest facility but friendly staff & service and very delicious ribs & turkey. I didn't get to try their ham but will mail-order since they offer that option :)
Glad we Turned Around!. As we were driving around Arkansas, we happened upon Burge's in the middle of Lewisville. Since it wasn't lunch time yet, we continued on our road trip, but a persistent nagging feeling had us returning to this small town to eat. And I'm glad we did!
Being told it was their most well known item, I ordered a turkey po'boy sandwich and the Mrs. got a ham po'boy. The first bites proved that these weren't just some cold cut pieces of meat between those well-toasted buns! This was REAL, smoked turkey and ham we were enjoying. Full of flavor and enhanced by the real mayo and crisp lettuce, these sandwiches justified their huge hoagie buns. Each sandwich was big enough for us to have shared between the two, but since they were so good, we weren't ashamed to each polish off our own meal.
The side of fries were limp and greasy, a total contrast to the sandwiches we were enjoying. The side of beans redeemed Burge's as a BBQ destination; even though there were no pork bits in the beans, the cup was full of flavor and love, evidence of the slow cooking process they use.
The meal was closed out with a a blueberry fried pie which was enhanced with cinnamon and sugar dusting, and a chocolate shake that was smooth and easy to enjoy through a straw - but not too watery.
There are two restrooms, but each is a "one-holer" and my wife said she had with her face near the bathroom sink. Indoor seating was ample, but the outdoor component just can't be beat when the weather is cooperative.
That smoked turkey is something that cannot be compared. The brine, the smoke, everything about the preparation of a Burge's smoked turkey is meticulous -- and the meat comes out so flavorful, it bears a resemblance to ham.
