The reviews we read online were not wrong. Well worth the 4 mile detour off I-81 to enjoy a late afternoon brunch on our way home from vacation. The complimentary artisanal muffins were awesome, as were the fried chicken, corned beef and sides. The best pecan pie (other than my own) we’ve ever had and I could have had a plate full of the toasted marshmallow garnish. Our server was both professional and adorable. Anytime we’re within 30 minutes of this restaurant we will definitely return!

They have, hands down, the best Reuben I have ever had in my life. And I love that the wait staff is so nice and on pointe. I always recommend the Southern Inn to out of towners asking about good places to eat in Lexington.

Doing farm to table and slaying it. All are welcome here, no political-profiling by the management -- superior quality, freshness, and much higher reviews - proving once again that focusing on what matters wins overall, every time. Delicious!

Service was excellent, staff were all friendly and very polite. Both my husband and I had the fried chicken dinner and it was some of the best ever had. Our daughter had the salmon club with fries, the fries were cooked to perfection and the sandwich was amazing. We will definitely eat there whenever we are in the area.

Food and service is good. Chef George stops by tables when he can. He, his family and it’s more than 80 year history are all assets to our community. Thank you.

Had an excellent meal for my daughter's birthday at the Southern Inn Restaurant. This is the second time eating here and both times have been a great experience. The food was perfectly prepared and tasted great. We ordered the lamb meatballs for an appetizer to share. For our mains we had shrimp & grits, grilled salmon, duck breast, and the special of the day, seared tuna. We all sampled each other's plate and every one was very well prepared and cooked as requested. I highly recommend making a reservation as even on a Wednesday, it was quite busy. Great choice when dining in Lexington.

Second visit, food and service are consistently great. We enjoyed a sampling of appetizers in the bar area, all very tasty, but the chicken skewers were exceptional and unique, then a burger of locally sourced beef that was delicious. Trevor was taking wonderful care of us this time, along with a number of tables in the bar, pleasant, efficient, and well timed. We look forward to going back.

Phenomenal food. Whomever the chef was this evening did it all just right. The broth from the mussels should be soup. The garden salad with roasted purple, gold beets is now in my top 3 of favorite meals. I will return. And you should go.

Made a reservation today (01-17-21) for brunch and my first visit to Southern Inn. Southern Inn is one of only two restaurants in Lexington currently serving brunch (Tonic being the other.) There's a warm atmosphere inside which made a nice first impression - we were sat at a table on the bar side of the restaurant, which I preferred to the main room. My date and I started our meal with two Bloody Marys featuring Southern Inn's in-house mix, which I feel like could have used more spice, but were balanced a bit by the seasonings used to line the glasses. Garnishes were an olive and a lime, plus dilly beans, which are not something that I'd put in Bloody Marys that I mixed myself, but I understand they're a generally accepted Bloody Mary ingredient. (I prefer spicy pickled okra.) Our server also brought complimentary muffins to the table, three different ones - two of which were cranberry as blueberry respectively. Our entrees: I had the omelette, which is vegetarian friendly (I'm not a vegetarian) containing red pepper, mushrooms, onion, spinach, and paired with bacon and home fries. Bacon could have been a bit more substantially cut and crispier - the place is called *Southern* Inn after all - and the home fries were adequate, but I've discovered that finding truly delicious and well seasoned home fries in a restaurant can be a challenge. My date ordered the Eggs Benedict, which I believe is traditionally served on an English muffin, but is prepared on Brioche toast here at the Southern Inn. Her dish also included country ham, which I sampled, and in my opinion could be a thicker cut and more "cured" - if that makes any sense. Country ham to me needs to be almost overly salty. Her only issue with the dish were that the eggs could have been a bit runnier, and just looking at them, I would agree. I've always been under the impression that the point was that the yoke was meant to coat/soak into the bread. The flavor though from my sample, was on point. Overall, an enjoyable first time here at the Southern Inn and look forward to giving them a try for lunch and dinner (and more brunches) in the future.

We were so blessed by this meal and service. I have been blessed to eat in some the best, finest, most well known restaurants in the world and throughout the USA. I have eaten food prepared by some of the best chefs in the USA as well. Their fried chicken signature meal (50 year old private recipe) is by far one of the best dinners I have ever had. I also had a lavender ice tea to go with it. The flavors were simply amazing. The meal was so good I asked to speak to chief (his name was Tony) to tell him what a wonderful meal it was and to encourage them to create a cook book, which I would purchase in a heart beat.

Excellent food and excellent service. Very reasonable prices for the food and the atmosphere. The pork tenderloin eggs Benedict was fantastic. And the hibiscus mimosa was a wonderful accompaniment to brunch. I would definitely recommend a visit here.

Spot on. Came here for dinner on a Thursday night without reservations, and were seated pretty much right away. Lovely atmosphere, nicely prepared dishes with a good wine selection. Will definitely be back!
