It's been a couple of years since I have been here. It still is awesome. The hot tamales were great. And the porterhouse is to die for. Their chef knows how to cook a steak from seasoning to the right temperature. Their wait staff was top notch and on top of drink refills, friendly and knowledgeable about their food. I totally recommend eating at Doe's Eat Place in Little Rock.
It hasn't changed over the years except some of the staff, and is still a great place to eat! I highly recommend sharing the porterhouse until it's time to chew on the bone and then it's time to fight! LOL!
Fantastic, great meal, best dang steak we have had in a long time. Service was very good, recommend if you are in Little Rock, go downtown and have a meal at Doe's, you wont regret it.
On December 14, a group of friends celebrated Christmas at your restaurant. It was great! As always, the food and drinks were superb, and our waiter was the best we have ever had. He had perfect timing on serving each course of the meal and was very attentive to our needs! Thank you for your service and Merry Christmas and Happy 2018!
I have always had an awesome experience at Doe’s! The food & service is always great! I was there last night with a large group of people & everything was perfect! The food was delicious & we had great service even with a large group! If you haven’t eaten at Doe’s, you’re missing out!
The service was great, the food delish and the chocolate cake was good and so was the cheesecake.
I would recommend to everyone.
We came from Sebring, FL. GREAT!!!!!!
The BEST Steaks in LR with excellent service. A "hole in the wall" worth visiting - the ambiance is warm and welcoming and the food - phenomenal!
We had our Christmas party there last night the food was great and the service was just out of this world. The room was a little small but had a good time. Keep up the good work. Will definitely be back. Thank y'all.
Doe’s is an awesome place to eat. Service was great and the Porterhouse was unbelievable..
Wonderful meal!!! The tamales for our appetizer were the best I've ever had ! Steak was excellent and service fantastic !!! Will be back soon !
Very good food in a historical setting. Then entire staff was friendly and courteous.
Doe’s continues to be my personal favorite steak place after many years and many meals at restaurants around the world. So good!
It has been a couple of years since I have been to Doe's. You have to ignore the looks of the building and the neighborhood or you might keep on driving. Inside it has the Doe's look, wore out and tired. But the food will keep you coming back. I started with a soaked salad that was very good. Then we had tamales for an appetizer and I don't think they get any better than Doe's. Served with a bowl of chili is terrific. Then we had the cheeseburger which was very good, a chili dog that was enormous and very good and a steak that was excellent. Prices are not bad either. Close your eyes and go in and enjoy the food.
Had the T-bone for 2, with my brother, and was quite satisfied w/ the flavor & presentation. We selected the t-bone only b/c they were out of the smaller version of their famous porterhouse, which was an acute disappointment. Great fries were a plus, soggy marinated salad a minus. The beautiful young lady waiting on us was cheerful & timely. The divish setting is authentic enough, but so is the neighborhood on the wrong side of downtown.
I don't know how many times we have been to Doe's in Little Rock over the years, but it is still a must stop on every overnight trip we make. Great tamales and shrimp (either fried or scampi). Great steaks from the 3 pound Porterhouse up to the 6 pound Sirloin served family style with fries, boiled potatoes and Texas toast. A pretty good wine selection, a full bar and always friendly service don't hurt either. Doe's embodies so much of the history of Little Rock and should be on every foodies' list - unless you are vegetarian.
Third visit and we love this place, but get there early for dinner if you want to be sure to get the 8 oz. filet (which is NOT on the lunch menu). Reservations for large parties only. Dinner service starts at 5:30 pm...we drove by at 5:10 and not a car in sight, but when we came back at 5:29, we had to park down the street.
Hamburgers at lunch are great, too. We found the sirloin we ordered on the second visit to be a bit chewy, but the fries and Texas toast are consistent winners. Marinated salad is a tad limp for my taste...and as a child of the 50s, I usually love iceberg lettuce.
It's a fun, funky place and the waitstaff is superb. Did I say the beer was icy cold? It was perfect!
Amazing steak. The only way to get a bad steak is to overcook it. No dress code and plenty of food to please a party of 3 off of 1 steak.
I'll take any excuse to make it out for a steak!
If these walls could talk.... The owner approached my table and was as friendly as you could be. When I told him I had heard about the famous meetings and parties that had taken place with the Clinton's at his establishment, he gave me a full tour with play by play historical accounts. The meat comes "by the pound" so come hungry!
What a great steak and fried place. The steak is thick, cooked to order, and well seasoned.
Had dinner last night and it was a very wonderful experience. The menu was not what I expected it was either streak or shrimp so our party decided to get the 3 pound porterhouse which was comes exactly how we wanted it. oh and the tamales were so good we got a dozen to go for lunch today.stop here if you get the chance.
Great food, but I wish someone would have told me beforehand that dinner is geared toward groups. :( I felt all alone trying to eat a lot of food. So if you want good group dining, it's great! If you're alone, go for lunch. :P
Super friendly waiter. good steak. Great overall experience.
Excellent steakhouse. The steaks melt in you mouth!
I sometimes dream of their steaks. The wine celler is very adequate and the patio is nice. The staff is great.
Steak Girl. John's daughter is in town and we gave her the choice of a ginormous steak or unlimited sushi. She said she wanted steak so we took her to Doe's. We were going for the porterhouse but they were out. (I'm calling ahead next time to reserve one!) We went with the 3 # T-bone with all the fixins. We also ordered a dozen shrimp and split it half as broiled and half as fried. Next time I will definately go with just the broiled. They were amazing! They kept trying to take the bowl of melted butter from the shrimp off the table.....they almost lost a hand! LOL - save it for your texas toast and to drizzle on the new potatoes. Needless to say, we will be back. :)
Really good food. Love the hole in the wall atmosphere but even on a Monday night, the place was packed. Get there early. There's only one salad dressing and its loaded with garlic. I liked it and my husband loved it. We ordered the 2.5lb porterhouse and it was delicious. They even cooked it to two different temps for us. It came with sides of fries, Texas toast and red potatoes, most of which we couldn't finish but they were good. It's a lot of food. We didn't try the tamales or the shrimp but we will next time. We took our t-bone home for our dog and she had no complaints either. This is definitely a once-in-a-while place for our family as we generally don't eat this heavily, but we do plan to return.
Gotta eat here. I've eaten here several times and never been upset. Great service and great food. The broiled shrimp are great. The tamales are pretty good. Get a porterhouse if you can but they sell out quick. You can call early in the day and they will hold one for you.
There is absolutely nothing negative I could say about this place. Me and everyone I have ever taken there (family and friends) love this place. If you like steak you have got to eat here.
Old hole in the wall. My husband and I ordered couple of waters, a beer, and fried shrimp for starters (tasted great.) We then shared a 2.5lb t bone dinner that came complete with two salads (odd choice of house dressing...wish they had choices), buttered toast, fries, and a couple of small red potatoes. No tummy room for dessert because they serve dinner "family style." The staff was great! Shrimp and steak was good. We spend a total of $55 + tip for us two. Glad for the experience but nothing to write home about.
Good Stuff. Always good, always fast. Turkey Sandwich was surprisingly great. Burgers are awesome
Fries aren't to my liking, but I think that's a preference on how fries are cooked. I like mine thinner and crisper.
Prices went up recently, but that won't deter me from heading there.
Best steak in town!. I love this place. I consistently get great steaks delivered to my table the way that I ordered them, medium rare. French fries are piled on top and are delicious as well. The salad is a soaked salad with crispy fresh lettuce and Italian-type dressing with fresh minced garlic throughout.
The tamales are out of this world fantastic! They are Delta tamales and come with a bowl of chili to drizzle all over the top of them. These are the best tamales in town.
Great Lunch Spot. Dinner aside, Doe's offers one of the simplest and best lunch menus in the city. The hot tamales covered with chili are Little Rock's best. Their cheeseburgers are excellent and among the city's best. Easygoing atmosphere, great Arkansas decor and rarely more than $10 per person. Forget the steaks, grab a burger and some tamales
Awesome steaks and tamales. President Clinton can be seen here when he's in town. Great wine list.
This is the best hole in the wall eat place ever!!!! Cheeseburgers are so good you will slap yo momma and the cook!!!!
You don't need to see the menu. It's minimalist, as is this wonderful joint. The menu is small and simple: T-bone, sirloin, and porterhouse, 2-5 pounds, and Norweigan Salmon. Tamales and breaded shrimp for appetizers. That's it. It comes perfect, everytime. You want ambiance go to others. You want the best steak and service in Arkansas, go to Doe's. And the waitstaff is superb. I've been there at least 100 times since it opened.
Steak Just Right.... We admit that we are steak snobs. It takes a really, really good steak place to impress us. We order rare or medium rare and it comes just as we ordered. Huge slabs of steak. Ambiance? Maybe a step above dive, but who cares. The food is what matters. If you have a large party, you can book the back room. You'll have to go through the kitchen. Be careful not to slip on the floor. Again, just remember, you're there for the food - the steak, the tamales, even the salad.
Doe's = YUM!. Some of the best steak you'll ever eat....it's a ton of food, but boy, is it good!
Monster Steaks. You order steaks by the pound starting at 3lbs. This is with bone in but just incredible. They also cook them just right and the quality is the highest. One of my favorite items on the menu is the simplest a soaked salad. I'm not a tamale fan but it is a very popular take home item. If you go for lunch the burgers are absolutely mouth watering. It is one of the few places I trust the meat quality enough to go medium rare. It is a great place to take out of towners. It isn't a "local joint" since technically it is a chain out of Greenville but we sure have adopted it as local since day 1.
Great Job Doe's!!!!!!!
The bun was chilly, the meat was hot and the big pile of iceberg lettuce on the bottom was cool and crispy and coated with the mayonnaise that also covered the bottom bun. A hearty slice of tomato and some somewhat thick ridgy dills accompanied. There was nary an onion slice to be found.
EDIT: The all-American style burger and fries is the unheralded hero of the lunch menu, something to sample when you've become bored with tamales and steak - oh, what am I saying, no one ever gets tired of tamales and steak - but if somehow you manage to convince yourself not to have tamales or steak, the burger's pretty good. So are the meatballs when spaghetti is available.
