Ali Baba has the best Falafel in all of Little Rock (trust me, I've tried all 9 places with Falafel in LR)! Their hummus and baba ganoush is also superb!
"Hole in the Wall" with Outstanding Food. Stumbled onto Ali Baba while visiting an Asian grocery down the street. I needed a bite for lunch and Urbanspoon told me about the place. You folks seemed to like it, so I gave it a shot. Boy am I glad I did!
I tried the half & half plate with beef shwarma meat and gyros meat, and asked for the hummus vs. rice. After a little confusion, I walked into the grocery part of the business and grabbed a bottled drink from the coolers in the back. The plate of food was massive (I really should've taken a picture). The chopped salad and the tatziki and such were refreshing and delicious. I almost felt guilty about "covering up" the flavor of the shwarma meat... it was obviously marinated and cooked with great care.
This is not a fancy place. That said, I'd be proud to walk in wearing a suit and tie to grab lunch or something to take home for dinner! If you're in Little Rock and like Turkish / Greek / Middle Eastern food, I highly recommend this place!

New owner & management since July 2012
Discover a whole new meat delivery method!. Searching for the kind of "kebab" that you get at little "take out" dives all over the UK and Europe? This is the place! Nothing fancy, just great kebab.
I've tried all over this city to get a simple doner kebab sandwich, with garlic sauce and chili sauce. This is literally the only place that has it and it is ... AWESOME!
Do yourself a favor and forego the taziki -- you can get a gyro anywhere -- go for the garlic sauce.
Can you think of a better combo than garlic and lamb meat? There's also the visual: there's just something cool about watching a vertical spit of meat getting carved.
Try this and you'll add kebab to your meat delivery device repertoire.
Fresh and delicious!. I only order the gyro sandwich because that's what I like. It is always fresh, hot, and wonderful. My only disappointment with Ali Baba's is that the restaurant part of the place isn't open late.
Ali baba...what can I say? Nothing short of middle eastern awesomeness. Fantastic food & a house made hot sauce that is to die for! Subway...really??! Real food, real talk. Habibi habibi.
Excellent Food, Great Service. I just ate at Ali Baba, and it was awsome. I had the gyro sandwich which was good. The Chicken Shawarma is also good. The new owners are polite and curteous, the resteraunt is clean. I have also tried the Baba Gahnouj, Tabouli, Hummous, and Foul. The selection of items has increased as well as the quality. If you have not eaten at Ali Baba, do yourself a favor and give it a try.
Good food, cool grocery store, great coffee. This is a great little place with a grocery store in it. The lentil soup is pretty good, the schwarma and other sandwiches are greasy, but good. You can eat here relatively cheap. The arabic coffee is delicious. Layla's has better baba ghanoujj and is a little less greasy, but I still like this place.
Good food, shady service. Don't go here if you're in a hurry. On one occasion, a friend and I were the only ones in the restaurant part of the store. We were on break from work, thus didn't have a whole lot of time. The man behind the counter was cleaning and after a few minutes of us standing around trying to get his attention, he finally looked up at us, then simply. went back to cleaning. We were forced to go to subway next door.
I have had a good Chicken Schwarma here before, and most of the food they offer both in the store and restaurant seem fresh, but just like the other reviewers said, the service here is really sketchy.
Their shawarmas are delicious! The best I have tasted in Arkansas. Inexpensive, too.
Best falafel in town. At $1 for 3 pieces of falafel, this place is absolutely amazing. I've never had anything but friendly service, either. it's not the same style of service other places might have, but I'll just assume that's part of the authentic cultural experience.
Don't be fooled by the look of the place, the food is top notch. I thought the staff was friendly enough and I could care less given how good the food was.
Tasty, inexpensive. Service is a bit sketchy, and when it's busy the small dining area can get a bit crowded. The food, though, is always good (except that they never seem to have the lamb advertised on the menu), and it's a good, cheap place for yummy gyros and other sandwiches. The grocery part is fun to look around and has some very good prices on spices, herbs, wonderful pita, and other staples of Middle-Eastern cooking.
