Review Sushi Daizen - Long Island City

My friend and I visited on Tuesday evening for omakase. It was definitely one of the best sushi I had in town. Everything was very fresh. We sat by the bar and saw the chef making the sushi in front of us. The restaurant was very small and had very few seats, so it was very quiet and allowed me to focus on the food more and to have some quiet time with friend.

I've become a regular here. The staff knows me by name and the chef remembers my hobbies and travels. I'm always pleased to find Japanese speaking patrons sitting at the sushi bar with me assuring me that this is the real deal. This is often the last place I go before leaving for a long trip and first place I visit when I return. Always the Sushi & Sashimi Omakase.

Bao Tu Cen

Really great experience for a decent price! They had sushi omakase for $75 per person and sushi+sashimi omakase for $90 per person. Fish is imported from Japan's fish market. The sushi chefs were polite and informative if you talk to them about the food.

2019.03 not a big Japanese sushi restaurant. It sells omakase, expensive and not really worth it. At least not tonight, most special fish sold out already, and left many common fish. Still fresh and nice sushi chef. Cozy and relax... Only hv time for sashimi pic, sushi into my mouth right the way. The appetizer is excellent

First omakase experience. Was the most delicious, memorable meal! Has a standing chalkboard tent outside with the prices and sushi info to draw in people walking by but it appears you need reservations to sit at the bar. There is a sushi bar area that seats 8. Two sushi chefs. Each party had the same dishes, but timing was staggered based on when you sat down. Fish broth soup Appetizer 5 sashimi 7 sushi 1 hand roll $90 I think they missed one sushi for us since I took pictures before eating each one and don’t remember the 7th one. Nice blend of flavors. The fish was the freshest, tastiest, melt in your mouth. Expertly arranged. Was a Filling meal. Nice ice cream flavor options (lychee, black sesame) for dessert. Would come back. Would recommend.

This was one of the tastiest sushi experiences I've ever had. The quality of the sushi is on par with Nobu. The experience is also very authentic. The restaurant is small and cozy. The service was very traditional. If you aren't on a budget and want a super authentic experience outside of Japan, this is the place to go.

Great omakase at a quiet and cozy place. The only place I've been that serves barracuda! Edit (after 3 years): Visited Sushi Daizen 3 years after my initial review. Definitely quality omakase for the price. The best and only place on Vernon Blvd, LIC that I would trust to get an omakase from.

One of my favs for omakase in NYC. SUSHI Chef remembers his customers' likes and dislikes. Wow! That's customized service! It received Michelin rating. So glad it's still open..during time of Covid.

Great omakase! Didn’t see that many people which I was a bit surprised about! Omakase price raised from $75 to $80, but that’s still super affordable relative to the quality of sushi and experience they offer. Great neighbourhood spot. Glad I’m able to snag a reso so easily but also wish more people knew about it!

Always consistently great and really reasonable for high quality omakase, love having this hidden gem in LIC ❤️ Got the Uni Ikura Toro during the pandemic to satisfy the craving for high end sushi and was not disappointed.

For the price, this is one of the best omakase you can find. Simply put the price per head makes this restaurant an amazing choice to come back to for omakase. The fish is great, but I will say that the selection was better under the last name. Change in management lead to them not having their liquor license unfortunately but they did a great job of accommodating.

Fantastic Omakase. Husband and I did the sushi and sashimi version, great value for the quality. Everything was fresh and intricately prepared. Nice sake selection. Enjoyed the clean and relaxed environment - reminds me of Tokyo. Recommend making a reservation or come right at opening, the sushi bar only seats about 8.

Daizen is a true LIC gem. I find their omakase to be much better than many higher priced places in Manhattan. The quality and freshness of the fish, the consistency and temperature of the rice and quality of wasabi are all exceptional. The scallops are super fresh and both the scallops and shrimp have a true sweet taste that you get when they are fresh. They have a great wine and sake menu as well and their service is of course exceptional. So glad they stayed open you must go here!

I recently moved from Tokyo to NYC, and I've been spending my days looking for Japan-quality sushi in LIC... Sushi Daizen is not only the best sushi in LIC, it's honestly some of the best sushi I've ever had in the United States. The prices are quite reasonable, ordering a la carte it's not much more expensive than what you'd pay at any of the other sushi restaurants nearby. The quality is utterly exceptional, and the emphasis is on what's fresh and seasonal, as it should be. Even fairly popular fish won't be on the menu unless they're available in season, which is always an excellent sign. Chef Etsuzo is friendly and a shokunin master of his craft. Can't recommend this place enough.

The value of the restaurant is tremendous. The quality, quantity, and execution is reminiscent of the classic Chef to Guest Omakase experience. Service staff is polite and kind. It would be easy to transport the quality of this restaurant into the city. Truly a superlative restaurant in Queens that anyone willing to try an Omakase should try.

You can barely notice this restaurant at Vernon Blvd; when you open the wooden door that is this small, cozy and chic place, where the sushi is fabulous. You have the choice of seating in a table or seeing the chef cooking for you. I highly recommend reservation since this restaurant is really small. The sake bottles are pricey, so be ready for that. The staff is friendly and very efficient. Yesterday was my second time and it was impeccable as the first time.
