Fantastic Ribs
On holidays from Australia and wanted to try some USA BBQ and Baby Blues was close. We got an Uber there and did not regrete it. The Memphis style ribs and brisket were perfect, loved all the sides. The meal was exactly what we wanted and filled our BBQ fix.
The lunch specials to 4pm seem good value and I got multiple meats - really good hot links with a smoky chilli taste plus brisket and pork that had a good flavour but were a bit chewy. Not the best BBQ but good staff and a funky restaurant area that stands out in this barren strip.
There is a cool novelty factor, but it slightly on the expensive side. Worth a try though!

Tried the Memphis rack and they were as traditional as they come. The dry rub had just the right amount of spices and brown sugar. My side were Mac n Cheese and the Greens. Wasn't impressed with the greens they put a can of stew Tomato's in the mix and to me it was like having greens in my tomato soup ( not right for sure ). But the Mac n Cheese was off the chain my baby girl would have loved it, just over done enough to have some crunchy crust every now and then ( excellent ). Also had a piece of Buttermilk ( Chess ) pie, a new item to the menu they asked me to review and it was fine as can be. So they have a few issues the cornbread was not to my liking either but I un's stand his take on it. But with the few issues that I had I must say it's all about the meat. Ribs were perfect could easel been on the table at "Memphis in May". Not over cooked ( falling off the bone ) and no wear near under cooked like most places in the city ( tough n chewy ). They also make "Big" bones for the beef lovers and I'm sure it's just as fine. 5 different sauces available if your into that kinda thang..... Give me a try over in Venice CA
Love this place. Robb and crew are the best.
Good BBQ here!. Baby blues is great! To be honest I didn't expect to find good bbq in SoCal! The beef rib is up there with the best I've had, I'd say that was my pick off their menu... I got the blue devil platter and that was too much food for me but I gave it a shot!
Awesome. Went to baby blues bbq two summers ago while on vacation. It was the most amazing food I have tasted in a long time. I was in awe it was such good bbq. And the mac n cheese, to die for!

OMG Ahhhmazing! Go and Go now! The perfect meal after a perfect day at the beach. The service was as amazing as the food and tip your bus boy because he works just as hard if not harder than the servers. Mashed Sweet potatoes and the banana pudding ate to die for but wow everything is SO delicious!
Good Southern BBQ. Having lived in The South for many years, one comes to know and love well executed Southern BBQ. While it may not surpass the greatness you might find at some hole in the wall in the hot, humid, uncivilized backwoods of this vast country, this local dive is perhaps the best you could expect around these parts. Good meats, good sides, and amazing cornbread.
Great & prompt service for a Friday night. The waitress was nice but overly helpful. Boyfriend ordered "The King" & I had the "Baby Blues Bayou". Both of us had baked beans & potato salad for our sides. The beans were good; however, something was missing...Potato salad was slightly bland. BUT the meat & shrimp we're right down delicious!! Holy cow!! One bite & I had died & gone to Heaven :) I had their sweet tea & was rather happy with it. Overall, a very nice experience. Although I will say, I much rather go try out their lunch specials & save myself a buck or two b/c it was slightly overpriced.
The place totally had a hole in the wall vibe, but the food more than makes up for it. Memphis and babyback ribs were amazing, and the corn on the cob and potato salad were stellar. Hands down though, the banana pudding may be one of the best things i've ever tasted... EVER! I could bathe in/inject that stuff! Robb, the manager, was really nice and sent over our dessert for free, too.
One of the best.. I met Rick and Danny when they first opened BBBQ the main courses, have always been insane. Flavorful, moist, and just downright messy. But the thing that always seperated this BBQ is the sides. Amazing mac n cheese, out of this world collared greens, excellent ochra. Corn bread that is to die for. Although they don't call in porno sauce anymore, the triple x sauce will give you an endorphine enhanced BBQ willy wonka ride.
Beach BBQ. I wasnt really expecting to find a place in Venice Beach that served good BBQ. However the food here actually held up to the stuff Id eat when I lived in the deep south, so I cant complain. I only wish we'd come for lunch, as I felt a a bit duped paying $13.50 for Brisket. That being said, the sides (Mac & Cheese, Mashed Potatoes) were exceptional and the portions were more than fair. The only bad thing was my wifes Pulled Pork, which seemed more waterlogged than tender. Which was a real shame, as the rest (Was the Cornbread deep fried?) was worthy of a gold ribbon or two. Service was adequate for a busy night.
Grade: B (oh yeah, your Baked Beans need reinventing. They were WAY weak)
Baby Blues BBQ is great. If you come, which I highly recommend, you have to try the Texas Style Beef Rib. It is like a steak on a rib bone. When I lifted the bone, the meat just fell off. All the meats are mouth watering, but the sauces make everything outstanding. Mmm Mmm Mmmmm!

Great BBQ. When Baby Blues first opened in Venice, they replaced a BBQ joint called 4-J's that was just plain bad. I remember going to Baby Blues a few months after they first opened, trying to remember if I had gone there since they changed. One taste of their food persuaded me that this Baby Blues is no 4-J's, and their food was something to be reckoned with. A few years of word-of-mouth and multiple features on Food Network shows and food books later, the owners' brothers have opened up additional locations in West Hollywood and San Francisco. They bought out the space next door so that they could make more room to combat the crowds.
First, a complaint. Everything on the menu is delicious and worth eating, but a few dishes need tweaking. When they first opened, they served the best macaroni and cheese anywhere, using a recipe that reminds me of Emeril Lagasse's mac and cheese recipe in his cookbook for kids. Later, they changed it to this orange, goopy mess that wasn't good at all, and now it's somewhere in between. Their sweet tea is too sweet, but it's just right if you mix it with regular iced tea. The lingonberry mustard is also too sweet for their burgers, but the burgers without the mustard are the best in L.A.
Now for the positives. As I mentioned before, they've got the best burgers in L.A. Their shrimp sandwich is awesome, hearty with a little cole slaw and BBQ sauce with a hearty artisan bun. Their sauteed okra is awesome, and I often try to duplicate it at home but can't quite do it like they do. Their cornbread is moist and spicy, and is one of the only cornbreads that I actually like, and I like it a lot. If you go with friends, share a combo platter and save a little money.
The people who run the place are great guys. They take pride in being Yankee fans in the middle of Dodger country, although people don't get too worked up about it in Los Angeles (it's not like they're adjacent to Fenway Park). They give a 50% discount to active duty military, so be sure to bring your favorite soldier buddies with you. They've kept up the quality throughout the life of the restaurant (with the aforementioned exception of their mac and cheese). Overall, an excellent spot.
Great Southern BBQ. The side dishes are as good as the BBQ and tastes homemade. You just need to follow your nose to the great BBQ aroma!
Very good. It's a busy place and for good reason -- the food is excellent. They don't seem to have one specific style (e.g. Memphis, Texas, etc.), which might upset the purists, but that suits my tastes well. Every bite of the chicken was extremely flavorful (both the platter and sandwich were excellent)...mashed potatoes and potato salad were both great...and the grilled shrimp was amazing. They also have a decent selection of beer. I can't wait to go back and try more things from the menu.
Texas Beef Ribs are the star. Memphis pork ribs 2nd place.
You gotta come to this place!! By far the best BBQ in LA. My favorite was the beef brisket, mac n cheese, and the banana pudding. Simply awesomeness!!! Great music. Whole atmosphere was great. Only downside was the hour long wait. But it was worth the wait =p
MMM GOOD!. I cant even explain the place. just go check it out.
This beats any BBQ I have ever had!!!. This must be the best BBQ ever.. No boubt about it. I drive from Santa Barbara atleast 6-9 times a year just to eat at this fabolous establishment. Keep up the good work and bring one to SB County PLEASE
xoxoxo

The chicken was SO MOIST and it had the perfect amount of outer char to BBQ sauce ratio. Its the kind of place where you have to eat the chicken skin because it literally melts in your mouth. The cornbread was only oh k. It wasn't heated
From the week it opened in Venice, The Monster has loved Baby Blues BBQ. From its laid back vibe to its rocking music, from its friendly servers to its delicious food, Baby Blues is a winner in The Monster's book.
We stayed the night near LAX before our trip to New York. Not wanting to let this rare night in Los Angeles go to waste, I did a little research and found a highly rated restaurant, Baby Blues Bar-B-Q. Baby Blues has been on TV shows, Diner's, Drive-Ins and Dives and Food Paradise. Baby Blues has been open since 2004. It was started by two guys that describe their barbecue as a hybrid of barbecue from all across the US. The sauce is reminiscent of sauces from North Carolina, the rest of the menu draws on barbecue techniques from Kansas City, Memphis and Texas, among others. Needless to say I was pretty excited to try the food, so let's see how it turned out. Starting us off was my Mom's choice for dinner, the Carolina Style Pulled Pork Sandwich. My Mom was pretty pleased with this dish. She found the meat was really moist and liked the Cole Slaw. Out of the five sauces that were on the table, she liked the sweet chili sauce the best
It all started with a hole in the wall BBQ joint, Lincoln Blvd, Venice Beach and two guys Danny and Rick... I drove by this little place with blue awnings for four years before I ever thought about stepping inside. It was a four years of delicious food ea
The atmosphere was super awesome. I was also able to meet the owner which he was super cool. The food was amazing and sides were great. Visiting from North Carolina made me feel right at home. That beef rib was fantastic. Definitely a place I will visit again when I travel back to Los Angeles California. Staff was great. Keep up the outstanding service.
I’ve heard baby blues has the best wings in Venice and they are certainly delicious. Best to get many different flavors as they all hit the same notes but strike different chords. Sweet spicy and hot are musts, with BBQ and XXX as strong role players, maybe even starters. Cornbread serves as a great chaser to your bites, and the mac and cheese is classic from your local BBQ joint.
Perfect brisket, and also perfect beef rib
The best beef rib i’ve tried. Just melting when it goes to mouth
And all the services was so nice :)
Definitely 5/5. Highly recommend this place if you want to try bbq plates
Yeah yes! On this day I wanted to eat a kind of Southern food, which I love and I found this fantastic place in Venice.
I talked to the owner and he told me that this restaurant has existed for 17 years in the same place, selling the same menu, which is a success in tradition.
I ordered Suicide King Brisket, two Slices of our fresh baked cornbread topped with brisket, cotija cheese, a dab of remoulade, and BBQ sauce on the side. It was an amazing flavor. I recommend it.
My oh MY they know how to BBQ. I was born in Texas, and Baby Blues satisfies my cravings for real good barbecue. I always order more than I need to, but find myself licking the plate in the end.
Their Mac n cheese as a side - get it. Also get their Cornbread, it’s perfectly sweet and salty and totally mealy. Crumbles at the touch.
Usually I get the catfish sandwich, my husband gets the pulled pork sandwich, and we’ll share a rack of ribs with sides.
They have a whole line of homemade sauces to add zest and spice, but honestly I eat the meat as it is served, because it’s perfect. Tender and juicy, I always want more.
Eat with your whole family here or eat solo, they have a nice counter top area where you can watch chefs prepare the meals.
Wow. Just wow this place is amazing. I’ll start with the pulled pork. It literally melts in your mouth, it’s so soft and tender I don’t think you need teeth.
The corn bread was something special as well nice and crunchy on the outside but remained moist and crumbly in the middle. The baked beans were rich and full of flavor as was the max and cheese.
One more thing to mention is the customer service was fantastic. We were greeted and helped within seconds of walking through the door.
If your in the area I can’t stress enough how much you need to try this place!
Great food! We showed up 10 minutes before they were closing and they gladly seated us. The food was amazing and my beef ribs were the best I've ever had also the creamed spinach and cornbread was wonderful!
Believe me, best ribs I've ever tried!! I love this place, their food is amazing and the drinks aren't expensive compared to LA's prices. I love the mashed sweet potato side, really delicious though some might find it sweet. I always go back whenever I visit LA!
Baby blues BBQ is a fantastic restaurant. I was incredibly impressed with both the service and the food.
I went with the Texas style beef rib, with macaroni and cheese and pork and beans, then also ordered some of their sliced brisket all the cart. I finished up my meal with a order of their banana pudding.
When we got there at only took us about 20 minutes to get seeded, considering it's a first-come-first-serve basis that wasn't too bad. I will say that the chairs weren't very comfortable, but that was literally the worst part of the experience.
The servers were quick to get our drinks as well as our orders, and the food came out in a decent amount of time.
The brisket tasted amazing, though it was a little bit dry for my taste. Still happy that I ate a pound of it though haha.
The Texas style beef rib, my goodness it was fantastic. They sell it at market price so it was a little bit pricey, but I don't care the thing was so good. The seasoning, the way it was cooked, the portion size, everything about it was just awesome. The rib also had a damn good bark to it.
Macaroni and cheese use actual cheese, so it had quite the stretch when I was trying to eat it
The pork and beans was great, they used pulled pork for it. Reminded me how my mother used to make it
The banana pudding tasted great and had a fantastic consistency. One common mistake I see with banana pudding at all places that I go to is that it's more yogurt than it really is pudding consistency. Their house made banana pudding was incredibly creamy and wasn't overly sweet, and of course was served with those necessary vanilla wafers.
The restrooms were clean and well-managed, they're only two in the restaurant though so keep that in mind.
This place was easily 5/5, my main gripe being the furniture just being incredibly uncomfortable while we sat there throughout our meal.
Got a bunch of meat here and it was tasty. They are generous with their portions and hook it up with good sides too. Plus they have a lot of different BBQ sauces if you have adventurous taste buds.
I stared this place a 4yrs ago in my maps and I finally made it. It was delicious and satisfying. Worth every mile I travelled to eat there. The mac n cheese was so amazing and creamed spinach. Yum.. yum.. but the collard greens were my favorite I can never find a place that makes them tasty.whatever they are doing, keep it up!!
I really enjoyed the Memphis Style Rib plate - the rub & sauce had a nice kick & flavor. I picked the sweet mashed potatoes & coleslaw as my sides. The coleslaw was perfectly like my Mom's - not sweet - just crisp, & creamy - without being gloppy. The Key Lime Pie was good - the lime wedge it came with was neccessary to add the extra tang it needed. Good draft beer selection. Comfortable, fun atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff.
My husband's tri-tip was wonderful. My baby back ribs were a little dry. Our sides were tasty. Excellent mashed potatoes! And I always love their coleslaw and potato salad! And the corn bread is just sweet enough to make it perfect.
Good food, great service. The sauces were average at best. The potato salad was good, the Mac and cheese was super cheesy and delicious. The brisket was a little dry. The cornbread was TO DIE FOR. Overall can’t complain. Good for Memphis bbq not in Memphis.
Excellent place to eat good BBQ. I'm not giving 5 stars because I think the temperature of the meat when serving it should be higher and the original BBQ sauce have space to improve. On the other hand, the service was great and our waitress was beautiful.
200lbs+ meathead guys must try the combos on the backside of the menu. Well worth the cost. And we appreciated that all three BBQ sauces bottles are left at each table, opposed to asking or even paying for more. A must try if you are near the area.
Enjoyed a great evening sharing Stories with my college buddy's Son... Awesome backdrop to sharing time together.. The service was wonderful and the Blue Devil Delicious.... Inside the atmosphere is laid back... Thanks for a great night!!
