Fantastic! The food is to die for! and staff was courteous and accommodating. the owner even came by and check in on us. The chef was very nice! I will continue to come here every time I am in venice. I'm addicted! You can make an APPOINTMENT or if you want to drop in you can grab a chair at the Bar and watch the kitchen through the glass, Fast service! and very unique food you will not find anywhere else on the planet.
We are Aussies on a holiday and we wanted steak. Best place we have found yet. Highly recommend the 48oz Porterhouse. Try all the menu and share on your table. Service was even better. Cheers guys. Thanks heaps
Just went for the first time. Glad to see the noise issue mentioned- maybe they are paying attention, or maybe Tuesdays aren’t as loud. It was easy to hear the waiter and our conversation- I wouldn’t go back if noise was an issue.
But the food.... so good that it should be illegal. Seriously, staring with bread, chopped salad, then porterhouse and skirt steak, along with the carrots. All super delicious and I have told quite a few people already.
Great food great service great ambience and what a great margarita
Great casual brunch with friends yesterday. I highly recommend!
The menu is creative and the food is delicious! The cabbage is a must have! Scallops, brocollini with fingerling potatoes, all really good. Nice hip atmosphere. Full bar. Great service. Loved it!
Wow this place is amazing! My new favorite porterhouse. My only gripe is it is so loud you can’t hear the person next to you.
Went for the first time for Happy Hour, so good! We will be back! Eric at the bar was great in his recommendations of what to try. Going back for my bday and brunch
Amazing food, attentive service. Can't wait to come back for more. Highly recommend!
Ok, so my main reason for going to this spot is because Joe mentioned it on Chopped. Anyway, the wings, ribs, green bean dish were excellent. The bartenders were nice too. 🍽🤗
Great food, loved the choice combinations of sauces with the meats and fish. My husband enjoyed the aged duck. Fun culinary experience. The servers were informative and patient giving us explanations and suggestions. Wonderful spot for large parties. Thanks Josiah + Joe for making my parents 40th wedding anniversary so special.
So good! The Special; Cod fish was delicious! Arugula salad was yummy too. The Peanut butter Chocolate chip ice cream was the perfect dessert.
Food was delicious!! Staff was awesome great atmosphere! Loved the special sauces!
Really, one of the more sublime eating experiences I have had. This place is amazing, and the food...well, you have to go check it out.
One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time… everything was off the charts! You can’t go wrong with any dish, and the servers are incredibly knowledgeable in their recommendations, but if nothing else - get the lamb riblets, roasted cabbage, aged bone-in rib eye and the ricotta carrots. The restaurant inside is very trendy and the patio feels like you’re in your own backyard. The service was exceptional and all around created a wonderful dining experience I didn’t want to end!
This restaurant never disappoints! I come here for happy hour (offered every day 5:30-7pm) whenever I’m in Venice, and it continues to serve some of the best HH food in the area: midnight margarita, fish and chicken skewers, burger (my favorite burger in LA), lamb riblets, chicken wings, grilled calamari are my go-to’s. Their cabbage, steak, and fries are also too delicious for words. I tried their brunch for the first time last weekend and was blown away yet again. To top things off, the bar service and table service are always outstanding. Can’t recommend this place enough.
Love this place been coming here for years. They can have a piece of my pie anytime. The experience here is always worth the money.
Definitely coming back again. The ambiance is great, staff friendly. This is a meat lovers paradise where you can see the dry aged ribeyes, bison and duck all drying out. The flavors are amazing and burst in your mouth.
Good food in a cool location. Restaurant has a smaller, intimate vibe - the menu revolves around the meats, but our favorite thing was definitely the bolognese. It was smoky and rich and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The bison ribeye was tasty, a bit leaner than a normal ribeye. The cabbage had some wonderful flavors, although a little salty.
Wow! Wow! Wow! Is all I can really say. Charcoal is an amazing restaurant owned by the amazing chef Josiah Citrin. If you are not familiar with him, you are missing out! The restaurant serves comfort foods in a family-style way. The ambiance and vibe are very relaxing and chill. The waitstaff is very quick, efficient, and extremely friendly.
Hubby and I went here because we saw it on one of our favorite shows, Insecure. We love steak so we were excited to finally make it here. We had a dinner reservation and when we arrived, we were sat right away. For starters, we had oysters and drinks. For our main, hubby went for the 48oz certified angus beef porterhouse and I went with prime skirt steak. In addition, we got sides for the table. Our food arrived hot and ready. Every bite was amazingly delicious. Both hubby and I could not put our forks down. We enjoyed every single bite! After dinner, I had to order dessert and a cappuccino. We went with Yuzu Curd. I have to be honest, I really had no idea what it was but I ordered it anyways. Haha. I’m glad I did because it was scrumptious! Even hubby got into it!
Hubby and I had a fantastic experience here at Charcoal in Venice. We were so happy with everything and we look forward to bringing our friends to share the experience. Thank You Charcoal for such a memorable wondrous food adventure. Until next time....
I was recently nearby and looking for something good. Strongly recommend to me, I entered and immediately thought I wasnt cool and trendy enough. Well.... wow, the food at Charcoal is amazing. The seasoned sirloin was amazing and probably the best steak I've had in a long time. Other items were also delicious.... but the ahi tuna appetizer had yogurt (?) on top. It was delicious but I had never had it that way. You should try it! Dont miss this place!!
Overall: 3.8/5 (dine in)
Half Dozen Oysters ($20): I didn't eat any since it looked very wet & slimy. My husband said he had better so you can skip the oysters here.
Smoked Lamb Ribs (4 for $19.25): Lamb is really hard to cook. Unfortunately, Charcoal didn't execute as well as we hoped. The flavors were okay and didn't hid the lamb gamey taste well. Another dish to skip.
Grilled Bacon ($8): We got the thick bacon hoping it will be juicier than the thin bacon. We got two burnt pieces of bacon that were overcooked and hard. Such a waste of money.
DineLA Lunch ($35): The real reason why we came here.
- Charcoal Crab Benedict: I was craving egg Benedict and this place had a black hollandaise sauce so I had to try it. You don't really taste the charcoal so it's mostly for looks. The crab was really fresh so eat it right away and don't let it get cold.
- Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuit: Wow, this is way better than KFC's biscuits! The biscuit is warm, fresh, crispy on the outside, & soft on the inside. It melts once it hits your mouth and can be eaten alone or with a bit of butter. The pepper honey glaze threw me off a bit but it works & gives you a nice subtle flavor.
- Smokey Grilled Chicken Wings: This came with 2 wings. They were dry and kinda tasteless. The oregano, chili, vinegar marinade didn't come through but you do get some of the smokiness.
Midnight Margarita ($16): This was beautiful presented. She came out in all black with a black salt rim. The tequila based drink was really strong & good but funny enough, it didn't get me buzzed.
Smoke & Fire ($16): This is Mescal based. It was also pretty good and just as strong as the midnight margarita. There wasn't a strong kick from the chili though.
Kitchen Appreciation (2.5%): Interesting that they add this on but note you can have it removed upon request. But really are you going to remove it & risk looking like a cheapo? Pretty smart move to me.
Overall, Charcoal delivers on incorporating charcoal into their food/drinks but fails in the cooking on charcoal part.
We went to Charcoal Venice not sure what to expect. But our waiter Alex was perfect to explain the preparation of their different dishes, the quantity we should order and what we should not miss (the duck was amazing). The four of us had 3 dishes, one side and a salad. The food was remarkable, well presented and easy to share. Overall a great place for your buck.
enjoyed the food, the vibe and the BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS! The lemon pancakes, and the braised beef breakfast sandwich were both amazing! We had the cheddar buttermilk biscuits with pepper honey as an appetizer, and they were NOT what we expected. The service was great too; however, they are strict on the mimosa time limit so govern yourself accordingly.
