Great little place to enjoy a meal and enjoy the sights and sounds of Olvera Street. The food is beautifully prepared and the flavors are delightful. As simple as it sounds, they probably have the best tasting spanish rice that I have ever experienced. Definitely worth a trip!
Great food, great service & music at our table.
Fresh made tortillas from banana too. Our waiter Leo was the best. Management was advised of same too.
A must stop for all.
Hit the spot friendly service with really delicious food checked every box would recommend it to anybody who wants quality food and service!!!
Nicest people in the world work at Casa La Golondrina! Our hostess, our waiter and our server could not have been more pleasant! And my Margarita on the Rocks was perfect. Huevos Rancheros were the best I've had in a very long time. My daughter said her Tacos were the best in the world! We can't wait to return!
I liked the friendly atmosphere, the food was excellent, "love the carne asada taco plate" a must try!

A good place for Tex Mex cuisine. It's an old restaurant that serves authentic Mexican food. The taste of their Burrito and Tacos are superb. It's an old restaurant which is pocket-friendly and offer a lot in their menu. The portions are huge and quite filling. The spice level is balanced and the food is full of flavours.
We were visiting LA from the UK and had lunch here. There were about 10 of us. Excellent food and, as is usual in California, large portions (compared to the UK that is). This is a very well established restaurant (established in the 1930's, the staff told us). Olvera Street, where the restaurant is situated, is an historic street and well worth visiting with lots of stalls selling things Mexican. The restaurant is spacious inside and has outside tables too.
Good food, Nice place. I've always been somewhat of fan of Mexican foods but living where I do really authentic and good Mexican is limited (except for a couple of recent new places -see my other reviews). A visit to LA however gave me opportunity to indulge myself! Travelling with the family too so I was hopefull we could have more of an authentic experience than at home.
Ok, so I am not qualified to judge the foods authenticity but what we had was great and the service was excellent. A soup, fajitas and several different species of Burrito were the order of the day accompanied by Margaritas for the older diners!
Word of warning for those used to the rather anorexic things we call Burritos in Australia - these things were huge. We were told they are large even by local standards. Pricing was reasonable and whilst by the very nature of travel it will be some time - we'll be back!
Love this place! We had dinner here twice in 4 days! Cheap, authentic, friendly and delicious. We will be back next time we are in LA! Gracias.
Very Good Place. Every time I go here, I cant have a great time, the margaritas are super and the food is good. I never leave diappointed for this place. The service is great and friendly.
Nice restuarant. The friendliest staff ever. Honestly the best horchata, strawberry and sangria ever. Great food as well

Decent Mexican food. Nothing special, but nothing wrong with it either. I had a shredded beef tostada. The roast was cooked perfectly, very tender. A little over priced because it's a tourist stop. I'd eat there again.
The Dead Call Me Here. For the past four Olvera Street 'Dia de los Muertos' observances, I have come here to eat, drink and be immersed in the magic of the evening. Look for me then - and have a 'killer' Margarita with me while you're at it.
Great little restaurant in the middle of Olivera Street! We stopped in for a nice family lunch after going to the California Science Center. The food was good and the margaritas were tasty. There was a mariachi band that walked around and serenaded us while eating.
Location is the best part of this Mexican cantina. Prices are expensive for a Mexican restaurant. Portions are big, with great flavors. Over $10 for a Margarita and around $15 a plate but you will end taking food home. The area is great for shopping Mexican items. Guacamole is delicious, but our order had big chunks of avocado which I would normally prefer smashed.
Delicious Mexican Restaurant on Olvera Street with authentic Mexican food at very reasonable prices we shared an Appetizer Plate and it was plenty of food for the two of us. Gustavo was our server and he did a fabulous job. The restaurant is usually very busy ( at least on weekends), so expect a wait at peak times. The ambience is lively, with wait staff wearing traditional Mexican colorful clothes- all adding to the fun. Mariachi players are frequently there, and are happy to play some delightful tunes for a tip. There are both outside and inside tables, and it's common to see people waiting 45 minutes for a table. The staff are all effecient- there are just A LOT of customers waiting. The food is always delicious and definitely worth a visit!
The staff is awesome! The food was delicious ! Got 3 tacos, shrimp al mojo, Pollo de mole, and carnitas with beans. I wasn't expecting them to be so filling I couldn't eat them all. I gave it 4 stars because we got sat outside on a hot day and there was hardly a breeze. Other than that have to go back. My micheladas were awesome as well😍
Was such a big meal, seasoned very well. But the steak was unevenly cooked but still tasty and tender. Good chips
Established in 1924 as the first Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles, this family-owned cafe and cantina serves an array of timeless, authentic Mexican dishes ranging from tacos to margaritas. The crispy tortilla chips and medium salsa verde are delicious, as well as the juicy chicken enchiladas with mild salsa verde, which are complemented by refried beans and zesty Spanish rice. The staff are helpful and the building itself is strikingly historical; it even has a fireplace! I highly recommend La Golondrina the next time you visit Olvera Street.
One of the Best Mexican restaurants in Downtown LA. Award winning margaritas with authentic Mexican cuisine. Must try their beef taquitos!
Food was very good. Restaurant interior was nice. The waiter explained/ suggested us the right sides. Will visit again.
Very Nice Place to have brunch or dinner!.
We stopped by during our last visit to La Plazita Olvera, the place wasn't too crowded and we were seated in less than 5 minutes. Menu has plenty of Mexican Dishes to choose from, I went for the Carne Asada plate my friends ordered some enchiladas, burritos and we also had a Guacamole.
Service was good and our server was always near in case we needed anything.
Restrooms were clean and overall the place is nice and clean. We will for sure comeback on our next visit for a quick lunch!.
Everything was good. I love this restaurant. It was my first time and love it.
Charming atmosphere/delicious Mexican food! Built on the first street built in City of Los Angeles, CA! What a history! Glad it has been preserved for so many generations to enjoy as well as souvenir shopping outside.
The best cheese enchiladas I have ever eaten. 2 Enchiladas with rice and beans $15.99 was very reasonably priced. The margaritas were also excellent. My friend had the steak fajitas which were amazing. These were $26.99 and was so much food this dish could easily be shared by two people. Very friendly staff, lovely restaurant with a fireplace and the service was excellent. Will come back many more times!
Great restaurant food, but can be pricey.
This Restsurant is the best at Placita Olvera we went on Jul 11, 2021 to our disappointment it was closed it looked like it went out if business 😢 I’m really hoping that it’s just temporary close and it will reopen soon🙏🏽
This lovely little old town Mexican restaurant is such a fun and exciting experience! The food is great and service is amazing. We had a lovely server, Monica, who had such a great attitude and energy. Would definitely recommend! Perfect for grabbing a bite before before a dodger game especially if you’re taking the metro, it’s located directly across the street from the union station. Love this place!
Location is it's strongest point. I recommend outdoor so you can watch the foot traffic. Food is good and reasonably priced. They don't have coke, they have Pepsi (as of this review).
After seeing a few other reviews I decided to expand. Yes the priced are a little high, you paying to dine right next Olvera Street. The entire restaurant is somewhat located on a slope, even the tables(especially the one right next to street) are a little tilted. This may make very difficult for the disabled to dine here. It's best to dine in the afternoon, the sun will be facing away from you. The tables outside on the patio are small, larger seating, and seating on a level surface, is available inside the restaurant.
I have frequented this restaurant over the years and have always enjoyed the food. This time I ordered something different. It was a pork stew served from the combo menu with beans and rice on the side. It was simply delicious and it didn't disappoint me. With big chucks of pork and lots of flavor and vegetables it was simply good! Our waiter, Felix was humorous and pleasant. He accommodated our needs and made us feel comfortable.
