Very tasty & flavorful tofu soup place. Love the Galbi here, so juicy & delicious. So much better than Korean tofu soup restaurants in Bay Area. Valet parking is affordable $2 for lunch unlimited $3 for dinner. Wait time is about 30 - 45 minutes during peak hours due to small places & only 3 50 ish waitresses running around. Only down side is customer service. Missed & forgot the order. Overall, such great soon tofu place. Recent price too.
Beverly Soon Tofu is rather cozy with its rustic, petrified wood decor. The benches make it a tight squeeze to get in and out of your seat. All of that adds to the Korean comfort food vibe.
They started us off with some barley tea. Then came the tofu salad, circles of tofu sitting in some light soy sauce (?), spring onions, and topped with shredded seaweed, which is quite refreshing on a hot day.
The banchan consisted of cucumbers, bean sprouts, potatoes, kimchi, radish.
$13 Chicken - grilled, spicy, marinated chicken breast:
Strips of marinated chicken breast sat on top of some grilled onions in a sizzling plate. I was pleasantly surprised that the chicken breast was not dry and the spicy flavor was very good.
$17 Stone Plate Bibimbap - vegetables, meat, fried egg over rice on a sizzling stone pot:
Sizzling hot vegetables and egg over rice mixed table-side. The charred flavor is very nice.
$24 Soon Tofu Soup & Squid combination:
They really pack each bowl full of tofu, and the soup holds nice, big chunks of pork, as opposed to the bits of minced meat you typically get.
$14 BBQ Squid grilled, spicy, marinated whole squid:
Very good squid. Each piece was very meaty, and quite chewy, but not too tough. It actually has a lot of the same flavors as the spicy grilled chicken.
I'd say share a few dishes and the Soon Tofu combination meals are quite good. However you don't really need to considering the combination prices are not much lower than paying for each dish separately. Though I am not sure if the soon tofu is better than any other soon tofu I have tried, I will say that the dishes are very good together.
Stopped in for some good ole Korean food after picking up Grandmaster Kwon from the airport. Solid Bimbimbop and soup with a fresh egg. Ribs were sweet and tasty. Still had enough for lunch and dinner the next day.
Beverly Soon Tofu was everything it's built up to be. Authentic great tasting Korean food. The kimchi soup with pork was great, it's came out boiling hot cooking my raw egg within moments. The BBQ pork was tasteful and sweet. The service was friendly and quick. The price is great! This place was hosted on Anthony Bourdain show Parts Unknown - you can't go wrong. Must go!
Went there for the first time and, holy smokes, we were impressed. We usually go to AYCE when we crave for kbbq. This time we didn't feel like cooking and didn't want to smell like food after so we gave this place a try. We ordered two soon tofu bulgogi combos and one large (5pcs) galbi. We think the "small" portion of galbi (2pcs) will be enough next time. We are not usually picky with our meat so cheap AYCE usually satisfies us. The high quality meat here is making us second guessing our past life choices. Needless to say, I think AYCE days are gone. This place has topped it all. The soon tofu is delicious and fulfilling. We will be back for sure!
Updated:
We went back second time for more Galbi. The quality is consistent. it takes about 30mins for us to get there but it's well worth the drive. This place is our new go-to!
The soup was the highlight, really tasty! There were even small oysters in them. Just wished the portion was bigger and there was more soup. The galbi size was good but tasted a little too sugary. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Koreatown.
One of the best tofu soup places out there! The banchan in particular is bomb. I like that this place also gives you silkin tofu as a starter instead of the traditional citrus based salad. No refills on that though :( they have Yelp wait in line as well so that is awesome. {Log onto Yelp and add your name to the wait list before you get there}. Tofu soup had the perfect amount of flavor and the service is great! In terms of portions it is a good amount. I got the combo with bulgogi and my gf got just the soup (good amount to share). The soup al carte portion is larger than the one that comes with the combo. Keep that in mind when ordering. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the food though cause I was too hungry when it came. Oh also parking is valet in the lot. 3 dollars. Street parking is really had to find. Especially on the weekends.
Fabulous service. Definitely would come back. The owner is extremely nice and considerate. She would refill my water and add side dishes just when the thought cross my mind. Lel feels like she can mind read. Great food as well 10/10
Taste better than all the other chain tofu places in So Cal. Friendly service too. Recommend getting it spicy for more flavor, it's really not spicy at all.
Really good food and reasonable prices... but really hard to get the table, you have to wait for the tables depending on when you go there. Always very busy.
I love that little soontoupu before they serve main dish. And compare the bcd it's more like healthy tastes. I ate double of rice bowl here.
THE BEST matcha latte I've ever had. Really. If you're into match trying their lavender latte is a must. Their sweets like muffins and cookies are also great. Can be hard to get a table as so many people stay here for hours and work online. But atmosphere is very nice and chilled. Decor is super trendy.
Best soup in K-Town! Immediately served with cold barley tea. The made-to-order bowl with contents of the soft tofu soup cooked right on the 🔥. Table side 🥚cracked into the hot soup. Add a second egg if your buddy does not want theirs! I got squid as the protein and mild spice level. Vegetarian options available also. Perfectly moist rice on the side in a small, metal bowl. Plenty of side dishes (bonchon). Pair the soup with several appetizer choices in addition to the bonchon. The ambience is inviting. This place made live edge furniture a thing before it was a thing. The hype from Roy Choi and Anthony Bourdain on the TV show Parts Unknown put this place on the map for a reason. Enjoy the experience of the best, authentic Korean specialty soup dishes (soondubu).
My friend and I came here yesterday for dinner. It's our first time trying this place. It was delicious. The soon tofu soup was amazing and same goes for the hot stone bibimbap. There was a wait when we got there. The place is pretty small, I believe we waited for 20-25 mins. I guess Anthony Bourdain and Roy Choi made this place more well known to people all over LA...I'm very thankful for that. Come try this place if you are in LA.
I've been to South Korea several times and the tofu stews here were (in my opinion) as good as food there, full of flavour and filled with ingredients and the sides were tasty. Recommended.
Let us cut to the chase - if you have any love for Korean Tofu Soup, Beverly Soon Tofu is the best in Korea Town, probably the best in LA. If you're not sure if you like soon tofu yet, you can rest well knowing that if you don't like it here, you probably won't like it anywhere. If you actively hate soon tofu, I mean probably stay away but most of all, if you want to see the limits of what soon tofu can be, this is the place to go.
Beverly Soon Tofu cultivates its own unique atmosphere featuring hand carved smooth wood tables and traditional bowls to serve barley tea instead of cups. Their offerings are encapsulated in a single page of tofus, many skewing toward seafood. My personal go to is the miso with beef - when I first tried it I wasn't sure what to expect. Awaiting me I found a marvelous texturing rivaling that of a hearty ramen that completely changed how I thought of a dish I already quite enjoyed. It should also be mentioned that the service is very friebdly, moreso if you speak Korean but it is NOT the kind of place where you need to speak - they'll take care you here.
The drawback to Beverly is definitely the line. I came as a party of one at 2 pm on a saturday and had to wait 15 minutes. That said I did get immediate seating for 3 on a Monday night once - just be sure to budget out time for the wait or reserve ahead. Parking isnt great either and is a serviceable three dollars in their lot, but it's not always as crowded as it looks.
Overall, it is mandatory for fans of soon tofu to attend to this mecca of the dish. Its complex taste is unparalleled in town and your pallette isn't complete without it.
I have been here twice and loved it both times. It's a new go-to for me. I got the combination soon Tofu which comes with a meet of your choice and a mix of everything, including many clams. My only qualm about this place is the banchan, which are good but I wish they had a few more. Girlfriend got the fish roe soon Tofu and loved it. I also got the bulgogi my first time, which was good but I'd recommend the soon Tofu. They've also got an interesting mix of alcohol, including something called icing which is basically like Korean chuhai, or smirnoff ice.
We got three combos (galbi & combo tofu, bulgolgi & kimchi tofu, bipimbap & seafood tofu) and everything was so yummy!! I especially loved the two meats! Also the staff was so friendly!
