For years this has been THE place for us to eat when visiting Olvera Street. We have introduced so many friends and family to Mexican food that is authentic and traditional. The tortillas as delicious! The number 6 plate is the best!!!
Yes. I love La Luz Del Dia. The hand made tortillas, the variety of fresh, delicious meat dishes, the new veggie dish called Pastel Azteca is absolutely fantastic, the friendly staff always at your service, the fact that it's the local's favorite restaurant. Yes. I love La Luz Del Dia. When you're visiting Los Angeles, go to Olvera Street, and stop in for authentic Mexican Cuisine at its best.
I feel reluctant to give a high rating of this dive, because I'm selfish and don't want it to get to crowded when I go visit. I want to keep all the good #7 carnitas plate to myself, so nobody else gets it but me. Enjoy!
Beautiful place love the way it decorated and the food is delicious excellent service the waitress was very kind in explaining what was in the menu. Love it!

Love the fresh corn tortillas, carnitas, tamales, chicharones, as well as the ambiance, with the Mariachi's playing their Music and Ice Cold Beer! I love their tacos de carnitas, champurrado, chicken in salsa verde, chiles rellenos on Friday's, their cafe de olla, other drinks such as agua de horchata and agua de tamarindo. Their tamales, salsa and great hand made tortillas are to die for as well!

I went for the first time last Sunday. I had the carnitas tacos and rice with beans combination plate with a bean and cheese tostada, I loved it! My cousin had a champurrado, and could not stay away when we left to walk Olvera Street. I came back for a large champurrado. I love this place the best I have had. Can't wait to go back. I just want to know can they deliver champurrado to San Antonio, Texas?
I have been coming here for over 30yrs, only change is I miss the hand slapping of the tortillas, now it's half done by machine, but the taste did not suffer. Always a great experience when I come. I've passed this tradition to my kids who love it as much as my wife and I. We drive 1hr from Orange county.
Was very pleased with the food here. Authentic Mexican Food with freshly made Corn Tortillas. I had Chicharron con Arroz y Frijoles and my other half had Pollo en Chile Verde with a side of Guacamole, it was all so good. Like if you were eating down in Mexico itself.
First time to this restaurant. The carnitas plate was delicious. Definitely will go again.

Classic Olveria Street place to grab tasteful Mexican food with handmade tortillas. I tried their pina agua Fresca which was perfect. My mom came her as a kid, and it's a great place to continue a simple Olveria Street tradition.
Quaint location, very nice, and the food is delicious. I got the chicken Verde salad. It came with homemade corn tortillas.
Cute quick bite to eat simple menu for people like me who take forever looking thru the whole menu 🤣

My favorite place to eat in LA! The food is always fresh and delicious. I’ve been coming here for over 20 years and it has stayed consistent - welcoming with amazing food. I highly recommend the carnitas plate though you can’t go wrong with anything you pick. If you need something sweet, don’t forget to try the jamaica.

I absolutely love this place. Not pricy at all and the food is good. The ladies who work here are all kind. It's just the right amount of food. I've been coming to this place since I was a kid and it's still awesome.
Was recommended by the conductor on my Amtrak, and wow was that a great call! A quick walk from Union Station, with a counter service format that makes it easy for those on a tight schedule. Great price for excellent food- the tortillas, freshly made in house, are by themselves a basically transcendent experience, and the pollo con salsa verde was excellent. A shady patio perfect for enjoy a cup of jamaica rounds it out for a great little spot for lunch. Highly recommend!
We had the lunch special of 3 courses for $25.00. Beautifully arranged plates providing just the right bites for lunch. Beautiful marriage of tastes. The margaritas the best we've tasted. We found a small piece of netting stuck to one of the chips. The waiter quickly replaced everything. Waiter was wonderful!
It's a nice restaurant. I visited it with my friends and we had taco rice and beans, chicken tacos and flan. All the dishes were delicious. The staff were also kind and friendly.
We have been here several times over the year. Each of our visits have been separated several months but the food has always been consistently excellent. The tamales are especially good. We consider ourselves a bit of flan connoisseurs and La Luz Del Dia has the creamiest and most delicious flan ever. Sometimes flan just tastes like sweet eggs, this is a heavenly custard that needs to be tasted.
