Really special restaurant. Cozy fun atmosphere. Great menu but large portions and many options so bring friends. Lovely cocktails too. We had the macaroni layered over the etoufee. Highly recommend this dish. Little bits of seafood hidden beneath the macaroni and cheese in a savory sauce. So good!

Friday night I was attending a play at the Orpheum Theater and found this cozy New Orleans resturante. Very hip and upscale with delicious small plates. I really enjoyed the upstair setting with large windows to view the city. Enjoyed the Mississippi catfish and crabmeat hush puppies. Also enjoyed a wonderful glass of their Ryan Patrick Riesling. Perfect spot to eat when you are visiting the downtown LA area!

First time here, what a great experience! The staff was great in describing the menu. They gave great suggestions on what to choose and pairing each dish with excellent wine. The food was delicious. The ambience was great! We've never been to New Orleans, but this experience sure peaked our interest in putting New Orleans on our bucket list! Will definitely come back!

Just excellent. Chef & staff were just great, exceptional food. We will be back. We had the cornbread - out of this world, gumbo- fantastic, eggplant-delicious, Caesar salad, with anchovies on top--very tasty and the porterhouse porkchop--mmmmmgood & juicy.

New Orleans in DTLA! The crab hush puppies are a must have! The wine selection was extraordinary. A really great and diverse list, and did not disappoint. Most importantly-the service was just wonderful. I can't describe how great it was without writing a novel. No complaints on anything. Great vibe and atmosphere. Going back, wish I could rate 10 stars!

Great spot for a variety of Southern food. Had dinner and our food was excellent. We had catfish, duck, collard greens and roasted corn. All were tasty. I can't say enough about the service. Trevor is a super star and the GM stopped by to chat. Good choice if you're looking for dinner in DTLA.

The owner, Josh and the Sommelier went above and beyond to give us a fantastic dining experience. The food was creative and delicious, the staff was on point, and I loved that there was an upstairs and downstairs bar with different ambiance.

The last day for dineLA, saved the best for last! The hibiscus mule was one of the best mules I've had, and I've had a lot of mules! We shared the crab hushpuppies which were out of this world and the trout caviar which was really good but not outstanding, to be fair a 4+ rating instead of a 5. He had the po boy while I had the squash blossom chile relleno, The chile relleno was very rich, very good! Then dessert, we split the beignets which were excellent and the strawberry rhubarb crisp which was very good. We both said we'll be back. This is how to do dineLA tonight so you get customers back in the other 50 weeks.

DineLA has done it again! I took my daughter to celebrate her 21st Birthday and we both couldn't be happier! You guys assisted in making it memorable! Between 3 of us we all shared our dishes and we still couldn't eat it all! The menu is incredible! The food delicious! The portions (you won't leave hungry)! The ambience was hip and refreshing, -- think... Nawlins' meets a Downtown LA loft. Spacious, yet with minimalistic decor. A long fully stocked bar upstairs gives the restaurant a classic speak-easy feel, as well as a cool hang-out happy hour bar downstairs. Did I mention the food was great! Even without the preset DineLA menu pricing, the regular menu pricing was appropriately priced. We enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. I see my self returning many more times! A pleasant surprise awaits after dinner! I truly recommend Preux & Proper!

Absolutely the best food and experience we've had in a long while. The Duck Breast with Grits was amazing and the Lamb Shank was delicious as well. A little spicy but oh so good. Love the Southern twist on all the dishes. The staff at P & P hands down was the most personable and professional and so very attentive. This is a real Gem and we will be going back very soon even if we don't have any reason to be downtown other than dining at Preux & Proper.

The food is incredible! The vibe is special. You owe it to yourself to go by and check it out. You might want to make it on a Thursday night and get treated to #GrooveThursdaysDtla one of the best nights in town for amazing live music.

This restaurant seriously has it all when it comes to a top-notch LA eatery. The space is so unique and is packed with historical charm. I love the two levels of P&P, with the lower level feeling more casual with a bar. The upper level features dim lighting for a romantic ambiance, and a gorgeous outside patio. We came here with a totally open mind and were completely blown away. The attention to detail that Preux and Proper puts into their food & drinks is unparalleled. Chef Sammy took time to explain the restaurant's philosophy when it comes to sourcing (only the best, most ethical, and highest quality ingredients). In a sea of restaurants that are quick to crank out recipes & plates without caring much for the ethical aspect of the business, it's truly incredible to support a business that does. Of all the things we tried, my favorites were the Grilled Yellow Sweet Corn (packed with SO many flavors), Fried Pork Belly (incredibly tender), and Liberty Farms Organic Duck Breast (must- try!). Service here is excellent, and I suggest making a reservation or coming here before the dinner rush. Every minute we spent here was savored in the best food & ambiance. Couldn't recommend Preux and Proper enough for all occasions. I very much look forward to when I have the chance to host a celebration dinner with friends here!

Trying out some new Southern! Rabbit, pork, lamb, and beignets, we got the major good groups covered! They really did this place right in a slightly unconventional wedge corner lot. I forgot to take pics of the cocktails but you really should try them (the old fashioned was tad too sweet)

The food was good but not spectacular. Its almost as if they were/are trying to hard to do something creative. The ingredients are fresh and quality. I came for brunch. The food was filling. I looked at the regular dinner menu and it looks good but not sure if I'd risk coming back. I say try it. I may come back to try the key lime pie. I love key lime pie.

Went for the DineLA menu and it did not disappoint. Our server was awesome and made some great recommendations. The octopus was outstanding, perfectly prepared, so much flavor and a very generous portion. We also had the pork belly and it was excellent. So many flavors and cooked right. Would definitely go back to try other menu items.

This was my first time at Preux & Proper. We were there for lunch today, Sunday. Parking lots on both sides of the restaurant. It was very, very good. Amongst us we had their frozen drinks, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, cornbread, mac and cheese, beignets, mimosas, and Moroccan shakshuka. Everything was very good. The servings are generous, the seasoning is perfect and the flavors are incredible (can you tell we all loved this place?). I would recommend reservations. They also have frosé - a frozen rose wine that I heard was soooooo good!

Yum! Im not sure if this is really Louisiana food, but the food was delicious! Made a reservation for 4 people upstairs for "Proper Dinner." Downstairs is first come first serve and has a different bar menu. The waitress said we werent supposed to order drom the downstairs bar menu but she said she'd sneak them for us! We ordered from both thr Proper and Bar menu as they both had great options. Everything was sharable so the 4 of us ordered what we wanted to try and they were all so good. The service was amazing as well. Definitely recommend this place but only if youre able to get from both the menus.

Every dish we tried was amazing! This included Fried Mississippi Catfish, Baked Mac & Cheese, Dungeness Crab Hush puppies, Chicken Fried Pork Belly, and Smoked Pork Chop. The Beignets and Fruit Cobbler were yummy as well. Recommend visiting in a group of at least 4, so you can try more items on the menu. Waiting staff were friendly and attentive. Can't wait to visit again to try other items on the menu. Valet parking is on Spring Street, and costs $10.

Can’t say enough about this place, seriously one of the best meals I have had to date. The flavors are incredible and some is the best pickles I have had. Old fashioned was uniquely done. Finished off with the strawberry shortcake with brown butter crumbles, so good I would fight you for it.

Such a great restaurant with the lovely vibe. Interesting building shape that they make really great use of. Food and drink are amazing and the service is great. Staff is really friendly and service is amazing. Outdoor patio is very nice. There's a parking lot located right across the street which is very convenient.

Rarely surprised by restaurants these days. Color me surprised. It's rare food can be both authentic and modern. Food was absolutely tasty. I had fried catfish. Moist, sweet and awesome sauce and fried pickles. Best brussel sprouts I ever had. Bartender made a mean old fashioned and then persuaded me into sweet potato pie. Excellent. The best part, the music. I could stay there all day, but that would be bad for my belly, liver and wallet. Well done. I'll be back.

Delicious New Orleans inspired dinner, seated upstairs on small deck with just 3 tables and a street lamp just outside the deck that made you feel like you might be there. Excellent service. Biscuits were off the charts.

So happy to have found this place tucked Way in DTLA. Staff is extremely trendy, the food was super delish with a little kick. Unfortunately the location has a lot of street traffic and noise as well as being expensive, but overall a great time. Happily would come again for the corn... or two.

Went in search for friend chicken and spotted this place. Thought why not and popped in. Helpful host, helped us with the menu. Really really good chicken.. I mean it's hot but you can adjust the heat to what you'd like it to be and we loved the fiery one. Just yum. It's authentic southern and such a good vibe. One of the best eats of LA

Lively french inspired urban eatery that offers southern fusion cuisine in a cozy location in DTLA. The cornbread and fried catfish reminded me of my grandmother's specialties, as did the mac and cheese. The duck breast was fantastic, and the drinks were well crafted with the perfect balance of body and booze. Our server Maria was fun, full of energy and attentive. Definitely a go to place for us in the future!

This is an excellent spot. We grabbed dinner at their bar, where they serve wonderful drinks along side the full dinner menu and bar food options. If you are seated for dinner you only have their delicious dinner menu to choose from. Everything we had was amazing, but the Octopus was out of this world.

I came on a Sunday and was only disappointed because I was unable to try any of the other amazing options on the larger menu. It was Happy Hour and a limited menu for Sunday, but honestly everything that the group and myself tried was SO GOOD. For myself I had the crawfish roll, mac N cheese, and the cornbread. All were very good and nice portions as I had hoped for the price. I will say that the mac n cheese that I had could've had less oil in the pan, but I can't wait to go back and experience the full menu!

Delicious! We came here for DineLA, but we will be back in the future. I've never been a fan of fusion cuisine, but this place takes the best of NOLA cuisine and adds tasty complementary elements from other styles to make dishes delicious and unique. With food and drink this good, I'll happily pay full price.
