Patty runs an amazing restaurant. This is legitimately the best food in Lynchburg. Every single time I have a friend visiting from out of town, this is the place I take them to.
Great service and excellent food as always. Have been eating here for years and have not had one bad experience.
We've enjoyed Thai 99 for years! It's our favorite place to eat!

We had the pineapple fried rice with chicken. Delish!
Best Thai food I've ever had! The owners are super nice...and so are the wait staff! ;)
Favorite restaurant, volcano chicken and panang curry are amazing. Thai hot every time.
I love this place!! Food is always delicious! I would recommend to anyone :)
AWESOME!!! Great Food & Service!
We would rather eat Local, and not a chain, and they are an example of the reason why!
The Penang Curry is off the charts! The soup warms you up for the main course (hot, hot, hot) and the cool Tapioca cools you down and refreshes. The BOMB!!!
Best service in town!! These waitresses are super friendly and look stunning in their uniforms. My lunch was perfect and I love the Thai ice-tea
Always great service and anything I have had to eat has been delicious.
I always have wonderful food every time I eat here! I've never had anything bad...though I do tend to go for the same things: Pad Thai, Pineapple Fried Rice & Panang Curry! The owner & staff are very friendly & want to make sure that their customers are happy & leave satisfied! The lunch special is an amazing deal with yummy soup, main dish and coconut-tapioca dessert that is out of this world! Go check it out! You will not be disappointed! =D
This is some of the best food in this city. With great service and great people.
The exterior of the restaurant may make you think twice, but it must be because they put all their money into their food. One of the better Thai restaurants out there, because they do not skimp on the flavor and seasoning. The pad Thai, pad gra tiem, panang curry, and red curry were all pretty amazing when we had it. Definitely coming back for more!
I love this place. My only complaint is their hours are somewhat skim, and its hard to get there before they close. Because of this I usually get take out. Even with taking food with me the quality is still there. The location is under a wedding dress store, and it looks run down, plants growing in entrance, with dim lighting - don't let this fool you - the food is on point.
Of course I get the Pad Thai Noodles. This is the staple and have recently ventured out to get other stuff but always start with the Pad Thai. They can make this with a basic spice level or turn up the heat if you like spicy. This is a great dish if you are new to Thai and wondering what to try.
The Peanut Chicken is amazing, and I laughed at the sound of this until they made me try it once. It resembles peanut butter, and is amazing. Only downfall is you can fill up on it fast.
We also got the appetizer sampler, and side of garlic broccoli. The appetizer was good, but the rolls were not my favorite. I think my dislike comes from my mental image of a Chinese egg roll and thinking that this would taste the same.
Please do not ask for yum yum sauce - its a Thai place and the owner will get highly offended with you.
Absolutely delicious and a great deal - especially for lunch. Ingredients are fresh and no MSG! Definitely a healthy option (just avoid anything fried - goes without saying). Anything stir fried (pad) is awesome. Pad khing and prik khing are my favorites.
Thai food at its best. This is the place to get Thai food in Lynchburg. And it's good!
Wonderful!. This is definitely the best Thai in Lynchburg. Stick to the stir fried dishes "pad" and you will never be disappointed! All the ingredients are fresh and the service is really quick. OH and no msg!
Panang curry, cashew nut chicken and pad prik khing are my favorites!
Great little place, inexpensive, friendly staff. The Thai Hot was medium, but then again, I REALLY like hot food...
Delicious dishes and great service. The specials Kow Cook Nam is absolutely exquisite as well as the Panang curry and Pad Khing. Great bargain for lunch!
Excellent 3-course meal for lunch at a very reasonable price. They also offer the spice tray for the more authentic Thai experience.
Like it!!!. I have gone there for lunch many times and enjoyed it everytime! Lunch menu is very reasonable. Soup, meal and dessert for $8 is pretty good I think. Staff has always been good, courteous and prompt. Compared to what is available in that area of town, I feel it's well worth it.
Great first experience. I ate at Thai 99 last night with my girlfriend. It was the first time that I had eaten at this particular Thai restaurant. I was a bit skeptical when I came in because the atmosphere of the place is not exactly inviting (cheap furniture and a wide open and brightly lit dining room), but nevertheless I pushed on and was very happy I did so.
I will start off by saying that I don't know if the dishes are authentic Thai or a poor knockoff, as I have read other reviews claiming it isn't real Thai. I am not from Thailand, but I can only imagine that just like every other culture in the world there are going to be discrepancies between dishes by the same name. (For example, I have never had the same lasagna twice from two different people or restaurants.) That being said, the dishes that we tried were perfectly prepared and delicious.
We started off with Fried Wontons. These were small but packed with delicious seasoned pork and served with a pineapple type sauce that balanced the flavor perfectly. It was a great start to the meal and it encouraged me to order my food spiced Thai Hot. Now for those of you who are turned of by spicy food because of the abrasive way most peppers burn your mouth and destroy your palette, these spices and peppers are well blended and, while extremely spicy, they don't burn your mouth or throat at all. Instead, they slowly warm you and add a new dimension to the dish. My girlfriend ordered the Thai platter spiced mild and it was good but at times it was a bit too sweet. She agreed that Thai hot would have been preferable. The noodles were pretty thin, but well cooked and the cabbage was delicious. For desert we shared Thai custard with sticky rice and it was delicious. The coconut milk adds just the right flavor to the custard and the slightly crunchy sticky rice was a perfect texture to offset the custard. I was impressed with the presentation as well. I would definitely go back and will be recommending this place to friends.
Great Thai!. Have eaten here 3 times, very consistent, very good Thai. The currys are excellent as well. Service is prompt and very quick, and the servers and owners are very nice.
What a surprise!. I checked Urbanspoon when I knew I'd be in Lynchburg for lunch. Picked Thai 99 because it was close to where I was going in town. Glad I did. Lunch was inexpensive, yet surprisingly authentic. If you like "hot," you can really go for the gusto and ask for "Thai hot." But there are also milder levels, if you prefer. All ingredients were fresh. The owner was the chef. Wait staff knowledgeable, efficient, friendly. All lunches come with a cool tapioca dessert. I'd definitely go there again.
My favorite Thai dish is panang curry. I'm quite picky with it too. I look for a certain level of viscosity, and they nail it at this place. I will say that their Pad Thai is not good. At all. And yet despite that, I still give them a 5 star review because of their curry and other tasty dishes.
Very clean and presentable. Very attentive staff, they greeted me as soon as I came through the door. The menu is small but all of it seems good. I had the Beef Pad Khing. It came with soup as an appetizer and tapioca pudding for desert. Very reasonable price too. My only nit pic is that this seems like any Chinese restaurant you find around here. I've had Thai food in Seattle and it's distinguishably different, better in my opinion. Still a great place to eat and I'd highly recommend it.
The food is great. The prices are a tiny bit high. The owners do a great job. The college student help is not as attentive. Portions and extra items show up when the owners tend to my order. They are very kind and welcoming.
Edit to the below- great improvement over the last 2 months. I upgraded to 5 stars and want to recognize the improvement.
Old- The younger personnel act like they just want to get rid of us. They barely answer the phone, don't want to provide a menu, and the order is different each time depending on who is working.
Always great, highly recommend the green and panang curry
I got delivery. The food is really good and flavorful. The veggies still have their crispness.
They have the best red curry in the world! That's all I ever get, except for sometimes I get the yellow curry or the green curry! And their Thai fried rice is also amazing!
