My boyfriend and I decided to try out local Szechuan / Sichuan places in search of the best. Unfortunately, we picked Szechuan Garden as our first place. We tried three things: the Szechuan Kung Pao Chicken, Double Mushroom Beef and the egg rolls. The Szechuan Kung Pao Chicken contained 25 large chili peppers, so we were excited by how spicy it was going to be... and then there was almost zero spice. If we had to guess, they had a mild Kung Pao Chicken out in their buffet, grabbed some and stirred in some pre-cooked peppers resulting in no spice whatsoever. The Double Mushroom Beef, as expected, had two types of mushrooms and was naturally mostly mushrooms, less beef and not very spicy. However, the mushrooms were very obviously old (some of the mushrooms were old enough that they looked like little cooked brains and others just tasted like they’d been sitting around in grease or something for a while... and then there was the random carrot that had “I’ve been sitting in a buffet” written all over it). The egg rolls were what you would typically expect from a buffet, so nothing to write home about and not particularly appetizing (they were more like spring rolls than what I would expect from an egg roll; mostly wrapping and very few vegetables). Overall, the food wasn’t good and we will not be returning.
