Great food and a great place to hang out! I really love Jim Shaw's and we enjoy the bar/patio area. The bartenders are awesome. Nufield the bus/waiter is always great. I recommend the crab claws and clam chowder.
I'm from Murrells Inlet,SC and I know great seafood. Excellent service and I have to say that the crab 🦀 soup was the best ever! Then I had fried scallops and shrimp with battered fries and cheese grits. I entered the gates of heaven. Will be back; only 1.5 hour drive from Smyrna, GA. Great meal.
The only inland seafood restaurant that’s even better than most high end places you find on the coast. Highly recommend you have your seafood blackened as they have it down to an art form. Also do yourself a favor and order an appetizer of their Pimento cheese fritters with pepper jelly!
Have eaten here several times and usually eat seafood but just had to try the steak one time and was very impressed. Also tried the voodoo shrimp as an appetizer and they were incredible. Have never had a bad dish here and will continue to return for great food and service.
We was in the area on business for a couple days. Googled “ fried oysters near me” BOOM, Jim Shaws came up! Its a nice little resturant. We got there at opening”5pm” Within 30 minutes the place was packed! Staff was all very friendly. Our waiter, Chris was great! We had fried oysters, clam cakes, scallops, alligator ! all of it was delishous! Sad to say we will probablly never be back this way,, but if we ever do,, we will eat here again! loved it!
Totally unassuming from the outside, but absolutely worth stopping! Fantastic and personable service, top notch food and prices that just make it that much better. Will be coming back!
Excellent service and the food is amazing. Long wait times but well worth the wait. Just be prepared to wait at 30 minuets or longer. But the food is so delicious.
My favorite place! Love eating outside on the porch. Home of the best fried grouper in the world! ♥️
We tried everything! Crab cakes, salmon cakes, scallops, shrimp, calamari & clam strips. All fabulous! Salads & baked potatoes were great too, but who cares about those when we had all the awesome seafood to eat! 😜 Two thumbs up!!!!!
Absolutely loved it! Best seafood I’ve had since being at an actual beach! Highly recommend it and will definitely be going back!
It was everything I was looking for. A great hometown atmosphere and awesome seafood cuisine. First time I have had blackened grouper. Definitely recommend.
Great place. Small local joint and the seafood was superb!
I love this place.... the food is ALWAYS awesome and the work ppl are nice and friendly!!!! Highly recommend
The best fish and best cheese grits I've ever had.
The food is always delicious and the waitress was wonderful. My husband had fried alligators and calamari with battered fries. I had 3 whole catfish fried with a baked potato :) yummy yummy we are always Impressed
Locals have only told me very good things about Jim Shaw's for a few years now. The seafood was fresh, plentiful and reasonably priced. I am looking forward to returning many more times in the future.
The food was wonderful. The fish is so fresh. Unbelievable food best I have had in a while
The service was great. The fried shrimp and slaw was wonderful
Highly recommend
One of my favorite spots in Bibb county. I prefer sitting on the outside porch/bar area. It is self order so you have to be willing to be aggressive to get your order in. Fortunately, my dad tramples over people to get the orders in. The bartender is a great guy. All of the seafood is from the coast where the owner, "skipper" picks it up twice a week. You really can't go wrong with anything here. The voodo shrimp and fried pimento cheese balls are especially nice. while not cheap this is a great spot to bring your buddies. Have a rolling rock and some raw oysters on the patio and you will be just fine. Thanks and stay hungry
Great food. Excellent blackened seasoning. Try the Tuna and Alligator bites.
The BOMB.COM. Loved it so much...ate there every night during my week and 1/2 in Macon. Not disappointed with anything I tried. Esp. fish tocos!
Jim Shaw's is Delicious. I've been going to Jim Shaw's for about ten years now and I love it! I used to work across the street and would see the fish truck drive up everyday from Savannah, so I know the food is definitely fresh! I prefer to eat on the patio - you place your order at the bar and they call your name. If cigarette smoke or occasional general rowdiness is a problem for you, I'd suggest sitting inside. Monday night is half off oysters and sometimes they run out or have smaller oysters if you go toward the end of the night (a consequence of having fresh fair, one that I personally view as an acceptable trade-off). I love the crab soup, the fish tacos are awesome, the cheese grits are tasty, raw oysters are always good, and all the fish is delish. If you have a bed experience, try it again, it'd be a shame to let one bad experience cause an absence of J.S's in your life!
Best Grouper Ever!. The blackened grouper was excellent. I travel all over the Gulf coast with work, and have not tasted a better blackened grouper. The hushpuppies are also great. They have the perfect amount of sweetness. The wait staff are very nice and accomodating as well. I highly recommend.
Five out of Five. If I were to give this restaurant a rating, it would have to be a five star rating. Not only is the food great, it was served in a timely manner as well. The food, the service, everything was just GREAT!!! Highly recommended!!!
Highly Recommended. My wife and I just ate at Jim Shaw's the for our anniversary date, and we weren't disappointed. It's a small-ish restaurant (the building is half restaurant - half lounge; completely separated) and simply decorated (mostly pictures of generic seascapes or beachfront properties. The service was excellent. Our waiter was on top of refills and was extremely polite. We were pleasantly surprised by the fact that they didn't just bring our food immediately when it was ready...when we finished our appetizer the plates were cleared and he brought the salads. As soon as we were done with those, they brought out the main course. The food itself was very good for the most part. I had the fried shrimp dinner which included fried shrimp (huge), cheese grits, and a couple hush puppies (best I've ever had - they had a sweet flavor to them that was amazing). The salad was also included with the meal. My wife had the fried catfish filets and steamed broccoli as her main side. The important foods were prepared perfectly and tasted great. The only negatives were the brocolli and salads - they weren't bad, just nothing special. The salad was topped with freshly sliced tomatoes and croutons, but that was it. The brocolli wasn't given any special seasonings or anything - just steamed (though they did offer melted cheese on the side).
Overall it was a great experience; we'll definitely be going back. If you are looking for a fancier restaurant - this really isn't along those lines. But if you are looking for good seafood (this far from the coast) and a comfortable atmosphere, definitely check it out.
Very good!. We stopped by Jim Shaws seafood on the way through Macon after reading the great reviews. Voodoo shrimp was good, although I thought the fried shrimp was just as good. A nice, light breading. I also ordered a side of cheese grits. They were too salty for me. Not fancy decor, but great seafood and the bar area looks like fun!
It Really That Good!. If you ever visit/live-in the Middle Ga area this is definitely one place you MUST eat. Everything is really good. Especially the side slaads that come with your meal.
It's wonderful to have a restaurant that stays true to the southern tradition of cooking and atmosphere. Love this place.
P.S. You better get that early. You could be standing an hour or more for a table on the weekend.
Not fancy at all but really, really good. Definitely on my favorites list for anytime I'm in Macon.
Best seafood around. I was lucky enough to live close to Jim Shaw's for 3 years. It's a little pricey, but well worth the food. Large portions are served hot and fresh. Oysters are great and a great deal during happy hour. Try the bourbon shrimp, not always on the menu, but they will cook it for you, if asked. Friendly staff, just be prepared for a wait, as the quality makes this a very popular Macon establishment.
Best seafood in town. Good service. Decor nothing fancy but does have it's own charm. Much better food and price than bonefish. Best gator I've had, and the wife swears by their cheese grits.
Great Seafood. In Macon to see the Cherry Blossoms. Dined here twice, excellent food and service. Worth finding if you're in the mood for Seafood.
Out of the Park Homerun. My wife and I have been patrons for some time now. We recently decided to take our kids there for an evening meal. The food was out of this world. The service was better than average. The bill was a little bit high but we got plenty of food for eveyone. Two weeks later we went out to eat with some family from out of town. We suggested JS but they didn't want to drive to Macon. We settled on Longhorns. By the time we ate 2 and 1/2 hours had passed. On the way out the kids said we should have went to Jim Shaws. It would have been a lot better Food, Service, And Price
Jim Shaws is the place to eat with out a doubt. If you can get past the 60's decor and just enjoy the food. The decor will grow on you!
I have to give it 5 out of 5 smileys
:) :) :) :) :)
The food is great and heath and will are also great bartenders they allways remember your name and make great drinks
She loved the scallops, but didn’t think the shrimp was anything too special. Unfortunately, she is trying a no wheat type diet, so the battered fries and hushpuppy were kindly donated to my side of the table.
Excellent dinner!! The pimento cheese fritters with pepper jelly were the PERFECT start.. hot, rich, and oozing with cheese.. the sweet spice of the jelly was an palette pleasing addition and complemented the fritters perfectly. Next- the crawfish meat- sooooo delicious, blackened was my choice- and it was everything that I could have wanted and more!! The seasoning and the dipping sauce was just the right amount of flavor- the meat was tender and juicy and oh so good! For my entree, I got cold boiled shrimp with a baked potato (butter, sour cream, and chives), and hush puppies. It was also very good. Sweet tea- delicious! I’m craving it again as I wrote this.. 😜
One of the BEST seafood restaurants in the Nation. The food and service is excellent. I have eaten there over the last three plus decades and it is a must stop when we are in town.
This place is amazing. Finally got the chance to eat here after driving by so many times and seeing it full. Nothing was less than quality. I got soft shell crab and oysters with battered fries and caesar salad. Crab soup for the appetizer. It's a lot of food and worth every penny
Not much from the outside. And you will probably miss it when driving by. The food was delicious and will definitely return when back in Macon. Started out with Clam Chowder. Added some spice with Pimento Cheese Poppers. Then enjoyed Mussels and Grilled Shrimp. Left satisfied.
Great food and really nice employees! We always go for the blackened gator tail, blackened ribeye and battered fries.
The seafood was Outstanding!! The service was excellent..Owen was on top of everything!! My wife and I went on a Saturday afternoon.
We waited an hour for a table..if you decide to try this wonderful restaurant, arrive before they open... and you will stand in line..it was well worth the wait..keep up the great work..will be returning to this historical Macon Georgia restaurant..Thank you.
Everything was delicious had osters soft shell crab and homemade key lime pie waitress was really nice
If you appreciate consistently great service, amazing food with large portions, short wait times, and the most bang for your buck short of disgusting fast food, Jim Shaw's is the place to go.
I have never had bad service nor have I had to send anything back to the hardest working kitchen staff this side of the Mason-Dixon. Their battered fries should be considered a Macon staple, as should the blackened tuna bites, both personal faves.
It's a little more than Crapplebee's but you actually get an enjoyable experience, delicious food, and good drink prices. I rate it a 10/5 stars.
