(Last visited on 5/26/2021.) My coworker spotted this food truck/cart one afternoon and said he wanted to try it. So we did and it was so satisfying that we went back again the next day! Here's why!
Atmosphere/Appearance: Seeing as this is a food truck, there isn't much to it. It's a cart that gets pulled by a truck or car of some sort, but then parked on the sidewalk on the corner of North Charter and West Johnson Street. I don't know if it visits anywhere else, but the whole week I was there the cart consistently arrived at 10:00am and left around 4:30pm.
Service: The guy inside is very friendly, soft-spoken and very sweet. He makes you feel welcomed and very safe.
Food: So this place specializes in Vietnamese sandwiches. That's pretty much all they do. There are 6 sandwiches you can choose from where the ingredients are chosen for you, but you can of course customize your own. Both times I went I went with chicken as a meat, then added sweet pickled carrots w/diakon radishes, spicy jalapenos, fresh cilantro and dehydrated onions. The sandwich was so different from the "usual" sandwiches I eat. It was sweet, savory, fresh and just delicious. The bread was crunchy on the outside, but soft on the inside. It had a great balance.
Value: $6.50 for a sandwich. You can't beat it.
If you're in the downtown Madison, WI area, check this guy out! Support the local business and you won't regret it!

I honestly can't say enough good about Saigon Sandwich. The best Bahn Mi in Madison, and the best lunch to be found on campus. They are a totally reasonable price, and for the flavor you get I think that makes them underpriced. You order via QR code, so there is no line to place an order, just to pick up & pay. I usually get the Special Combo w/ everything except half as much jalapeno as usual because I'm a bit of a wus for spice.
Best subs in Madison. If you haven’t heard of Bahn Mi before, definitely check this out.
Their sandwiches are so good, you can order online ahead of time and they have a tasty Vietnamese coffee too, good work lunch
There is no better lunch around the west campus area. That is an indisputable fact. Always fresh, always delicious. The Vietnamese coffee is also incredible, like a dessert after your lunch.
real asian street gourmet: awesome fresh french bread, plenty of fresh ingredients, perfectly balanced spice and seasoning, same price as McDs or less! one of the best deals in town
Would’ve been 5* except the bread let it down. It is not real bahn mi bread. The fillings were very tasty pickles were good, great amount of cilantro and jalapeños. Also a mark off because the Vietnamese iced coffee was slight bitter. Price is good with all bahn mi sandwiches at $5.50. Would come here again if it was on my way or in the area
Sooo delicious. I love banh mi sandwiches but I'm super picky about them. The way Saigon Sandwiches make them is fresh, crunchy, warm and tastes exactly like my childhood! I could eat these everyday.
