We were traveling through the area and we discovered this local restaurant and bar. It has been serving the locals since 1963. Great atmosphere, lots of areas to choose from. An old wooden bar, wood dividers, outdoor seating, tables in different areas and a room for receptions or parties.
The drinks were served promptly and the menu was extensive. The French dip sandwich was huge and the half pound hamburger was good.
Very nice atmosphere, and it was quiet pleasant in decor! Our waitress was absolutely wonderful and accommodating. I feel she went above and beyond for us.
Alas, the food was, well, okay. Now, this could just be me, but most of my food was just sort of....lacking in seasoning sadly. Some salt went a long way at least. The mozzarella sticks tasted a bit burnt as well, though the cheese inside was nice.
Got to also taste the cheeseburger soup they had though and honestly it was the best part of the meal. I'd go back just for that soup, ha.
Overall, I'd be willing to go back and maybe try something else on the menu.

The City Tavern in Old town Manassas Virginia is a hidden gem! We started coming here last summer and can’t stop! The foods here are true high-quality gourmet dishes. You can’t go wrong with anything you order.
The atmosphere here it’s very warm, cozy and welcoming. Different places to sit if you wanted to be close to the live music or sit a bit further away. Friendly staff:) We’ve become regular patrons! We just finished out special Valentines dinner! 😉
Environment was pretty good. At a minimum, the crowd was very friendly.
Our server was pretty good but not great. She was very friendly though. Had to keep looking for her.
Food was also so-so. I'm not sure why a French dip doesn't have a massive amount of dripping cheese, a hard roll, and a larger ramekin for dipping. See my review for The Cove in Pennsylvania and you'll understand.
The beer selection was respectable, and better than most, but they were out of the bells two-hearted. Environment was great this particular night because my brother-in-law was playing music up there. My father-in-law loved the single malt scotch selection.
Kristen is amazing! NFL Sunday, a full bar and tables, and doesn't miss a beat! Brunch was phenomenal! The homemade sausage gravy was, literally, homemade and second only to my friend DeDe's ... thank you Darnell! The spread went from breakfast food, to salad, to chicken and pork, to wings and potato skins and, of course, dessert. Excellent overall!!!
I had the black bean veggie burger. It was excellent. Very flavorful. The black bean patty itself was quite savory. I also love that the burger comes with guacamole. So good! It doesn't come with cheese, you have to ask for them to put cheese on and that costs an additional dollar. The French fries were pretty good.
The one thing I really didn't like was there were a few fruit flies hovering around our table and our food. This was annoying and gross. This is why I'm not giving the full five stars.
The service was good. Our server was very friendly, polite and helpful. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The atmosphere is nice. It was pretty quiet when we went there. It was around 4pm on a Saturday. We got a booth.
Parking is great. There is a spacious parking lot.
The jambalaya pasta is very good (see below photo). But the crab cakes here are not that great.
Server was friendly & attentive and our food was delicious. The hand cut & made to order mozzarella sticks were amazing; the Reuben was thick and flavorful, the cole slaw creamy and the burger arrived hot & fresh. Will definitely be going back!
This was my grandson first birthday party. He love it here and he his a girlfriend that works here and he just flirts with her all the time. The waitress was staff and manager was so awesome I did a good job at City Tavern. Thank you so much.
We had lunch on the patio today with a nice breeze blowing. The food was absolutely delicious and recommend the Tavern Salad as well as the Cheesesteak Sandwich, but all the food we've had there is really good, fresh and tasty. Kristen H is an awesome server; friendly, fun and efficient, checks back frequently, and anticipates needs for drink refills, extra napkins; whatever you need. Kristen, you're the best!
Well understand this is a tavern in the truest sense. I stopped in one weekday evening for a quick bite to eat, they have a decent happy hour on drink prices a bit loud as they have entertainment and it is a close space. The guy at the table next to me was literally shouting to talk which didn't do much for my enjoying my meal. They had a very good special to offer, with today's inflation got prime rib and 3 sides for 16.99 with my one bar drink total tab $20.00 well worth the loud music! It says they also have a great Sunday brunch as well looks good, who knew? Try it out!
Too loud for me. On a date.. beer and burgers. There were a rather large table of people celebrating someone's birthday. Could not speak or hear because of the yelling. They knew this, could have set us below.... or maybe it was my date who chose the spot! Anyway, the food was excellent. As was the service. So much bacon on the blt i took a take home box of bacon. 😆
The 50th anniversary, for Buck and Lynnie, planned by their two Son's, Brian & Shaun along with their cousin, Jennifer...Shawn took care of the catering! The food, was a wonderful Buffett, the food was great! Brian took care of ordering, and delivery of the Cake, and setting the table, for thier parents! It couldn't have been any better. I highly recommend it for small to medium, wedding reception's, Anniversary's, graduation, & birthday parties! The room was perfect colors, like a goldish tone perfect for the colors we had chosen, for the 50th Anniversary! Thank you City Tavern, we loved everything about it! Great staff and very clean!!! Would highly recommend City Tavern and the wonderful staff!!! Thanks again for making their very special day!
