Review Killer Shrimp - Marina del Rey

Delrae RocStar
I remember killer shrimp from over 20 years ago and I'm glad to see they are still around. They've always had a great view, easy parking and great service. Today one of the owners came to our table for a short visit. They seem to be at 50% capacity and staff but my chicken sandwich was great. I'm not a seafood eater

Great location, delicious food and drinks. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. I love the shrimp and pasta and the lobster Mac and cheese croquettes.Eat them while they are hot to experience the full gooey goodness. And if you can score a seat outside, you’re in for a treat. Highly recommend.

Well I have loved Killer Shrimp from when their entire menu was on a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper! If you like spicy shrimp in broth and chunks of French bread this Is the place . Your tongue may go numb, you do not have to eat it all. The restaurant has good to go containers that will not biodegrade before you get home. I had Killer Shrimp with a side of broccoli and looked mashed potatoes. I paid the extra amount to not have to peel my shrimp. My husband fried shrimp . His shrimp came out on skewers with fries. I had a rum based cocktail served in a Tiki like glass. We passed on dessert. While I have tried it sweet potato pecan pie is not a favorite. We were there about 5ish on Friday and got seated immediately. I think we were lucky. We have been there when the wait was 90 minutes for 2. There is a 5% surcharge for employee benefits. The service was good. They have outdoor seating most of it occupied by customers with four legged friends with views of the Marina.

Gotta get past the horrific check in service where the hostess handles everything and everyone terrible. Zero customer service which is a shame because once you are seated, the wait staff is great and the food phenomenal. One other thing: I asked for the manager because our check in with the hostess was so horrible.....I'm still waiting for the manager to show up and acknowledge me. It really is a shame because the food is top notch. But wow, customer service is bad .

Great location. We had the killer shrimp and lobster and crab claws. The crab claws honestly were so good and mopping up the residue with the bread was like being in flavour heaven. Not crazy expensive either for how much you get.

The location sits right on the marina with a gorgeous view. My friends and I enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. I personally did not care for my meal (killer shrimp pasta- pictured) but my friends enjoyed their meals (porch chops, and fish and chips - pictured). Worth a try if you are in the area. Service was excellent.

A casual seafood place overlooking the Marina. Family recipes - the food is delicious, very spicy, and cooked with lots of butter and spices. The service is just okay, but it’s a type of place where you don’t expect too much from the wait staff. The food arrived fast. The patio is right above the marina but the tables are small - 4 top is the largest. It’s a good, casual place that’s not too expensive. I would recommend it. They do not take reservations and we noticed 1 night a long line at the door. We had no issues getting a table for lunch.

Yes please! If you are going for a drink, great time! If you are going for dessert, great time! If you are going for dinner on the water, great time! My recommendation is to go for all of the above. Get the fish tacos and don't leave before getting the Killer Dessert, just be prepared to share.

The customer service could have been better! One waitress for 5 tables during happy hour is not a good idea!! Moving on I Love, Love, Love this place!!! Theeee Lobster mac n cheese truly blessed my soul, and is the best I have ever eaten!!!!

We ate at the Killer Shrimp Cafe the Food is always great our waitress was ok. But the runner bringing our food to us was rude. I’m giving it a 4 stars because the food was great but the service wasn’t.

We went there on Apr 21, 2018 we got seated right away and Kennedy was our server she was great prompt server always checked on us and refilled our drinks
Brett Bauer
Bad service and bad food. Ordered drinks and received them damn near 20 minutes later. Our shrimp cocktail had poop veins still in it. The grilled cod was all gristle and fat. Completely and utterly dissatisfied. Will not be back. Oh, and did I mention the horrible service.

I went yesterday with my family try to enjoy 4 of July but was all on the contrary I was waiting close to 1 hour and people come after us they attended first I thought because we are Hispanic please Hispanic people don't go to this place very racist and discriminator.

Food was good but the service waa horrible! Waited 20 minutes just to order. After ordering it was 30 minutes for simple shrimp dish. Only 5 in party. Only saw the waitress at order time and then had nerve to come and ask if we wanted desert. Manager took 25% off bill and said he has had complaints about her in the past...wth?

Went there Wednesday May 9, seated pretty fast the service started out great then our waiter forgot about us and we got a new waiter. She was great! We were seated in the back by the kitchen, we could watch them cook that was cool. But we got no silver wear or napkins until someone walked by and noticed we didn’t have any. The food was good but very spicy, more spicy then we thought it was gonna be.

yummy,The service was very good. Our waitress is an adorable blond, very personable and very efficient. Our food was very good, price was fair.

30 years and still the best I’ve ever eaten. Had a two hour layover at LAX and this is the only way I wanted to spend it.

What can I say the food here is amazing delicious outstanding gorgeous, I’m running out of words. The bar staff are friendly and attentive great atmosphere.

Manager is awful. Witnessed an argument between Christopher the manager and a regular customer. They tried to order the killer fries and were told the kitchen was closed (it was 11). When the customers said ok and went to order a different item off the happy hour menu the manager told them they were banned for life and to get out. We paid our tab and left as soon as we could. We will not be back.

Even though Marina Del Rey hasn't really been LA's foodie destination, there's one place that's been consistently busy since they opened more than 20 years ago. The restaurant shut down for a bit, but thankfully reopened. Killer Shrimp got their popularity from their namesake dish (more on that later) and has expanded into a spacious space with a harbor view in MDR.

Fantastic meal with Shyla Mani. Outstanding service by Martin, great wine selection, superb location & seating, before we even got to the truly awesome food. The seafood platter for 2 disappeared in seconds, the oysters were spot-on fresh & delicious....and then came the best paella I've had in years! Loads of clams, squid, fish, shrimp and mussels, with andouille sausage providing some solid bass notes. Gorgeous saffron notes and beautifully piquant.
I'm coming back!!
Shyla Mani
Killer Shrimp is a really tasty place! Great service and food!. We ordered the seafood platter, lobster tail tortellini and seafood paella. The seafood was cooked by someone who had a good knowledge of the ocean and the view outdoors was stunning! Only problem was the price was a little high. Really recommend this place.

The penultimate week of my short but memorable trip to California, was spent in the city of angels- Los Angeles. On the second day of our stay at LA, we headed to Hollywood Blvd and boarded the hop-on-hop-off bus with the intention of discovering the larger part of this beautiful city.
An hour later, we got down at Venice Beach- Ah! The Sun, the Sand and in contrast the super chilly water, it was a blissful experience and we (Herwin Abhilash Kandoth) tried walking along the vast stretch of the beach but grew tired and most of all- hungry. We started looking out for a place to eat and read about this restaurant at Marina Del Rey- Killer Shrimp (sounded really interesting).

We took an Uber cab and it was about a 10 min drive to this place and you cannot miss the big red board. Killer Shrimp looks pretty simple from the outside but once you enter and head towards the outdoor section, the view was incredibly beautiful.

We were seated on a table for two with a panoramic view of the Marina Del Rey (believe me it doesn't get any romantic than this)- Wow! I really don't have to mention about the servers or the service in the US- its highly unlikely that you will have a bad experience..

We had cocktails- I had a Long Island Ice Tea and Herwin had a cosmopolitan- both were refreshing after the long walk that we had.

As far as I remember we order fried calamari as an appetizer and loved it. For entree, we tried the Mac and Cheese, with Prawns- now this was the first time I had the former with anything else but chicken. It was also good, cheesy and the portion was very filling.
But Killer Shrimp's specialty is a certain preparation of Prawns- said to be cooked for a long duration with subtle spices and at the same time ensuring the flavor of the Prawns were intact. They serve it in a big bowl filled with the multiple-spiced broth and fresh Prawns, with fresh baked bread on the side. It was good but a little bland for my taste buds, but then again I couldn't expect it to be spicy as my home cuisine.

To me, Killer Shrimp is a place for decent sea- food, a place to chill out with friends over cocktails/mocktails with a stunning view of the world's largest man-made small craft harbor.

Ordered a take out had to wait nearly an hour for it. When we got back the food was cold and very dry, but the soup was good and very hot. The killer shrimp was just spicy and had no flavor to it.

Things were out of control here tonight. The food was delivered in the following order: first the main entree; second the side salad; third the appetizer; fourth the drinks; and lastly the silverware. I'm serious. The food was excellent. This is the first time I have eaten here so I hope they were just severely short on help. Had the service been average i would have rated the restaurant much higher because the food was quite good.

Only good people, are the bussers. Everyone from the hostess, to the two servers could care less. 20 minutes per request, no matter how small it was. Stay away, far away!!
Abby Wheeler
Bad service, terrible shrimp risotto, overpriced small margaritas, $5 corona lights- all on a Tuesday night.

Killer Shrimp. Take it from someone who has had this dish more times than I can count. Shrimp are great. Bread dipped in broth is probably the best thing I've eaten in my life. Nirvana.

Perfect name, the shrimp were killer. Great ambiance, exceptional service! Made our CA even more memorable.

Resturant Service. We arrived about 1:28 pm, no one greeted us, and we sat ourselves. We sat
about 5 minutes before the waiter gave us we the menu. 1:49 pm other waitress finally took notice of our empty drinks and gave us a refill, order of food came at 2:05 pm. 2: 15 pm waiter finally came back to give us refills,
hen I ordered coffee. 2:30 pm the waitress came and cleared our table, 2:35
I got up to show my Mom -n- law the restroom and the waitress said goodbye
to us. She did not realized we had not paid our bill, so we could have walked right of the place. I informed her we needed our bill and I sat at a table until
the bill came. 2:40 pm the waiter came to pick up the payment, then the rude
waitress had the nerve to ask him if he took her tip. Like she did anything to
deserve it, I felt like she went out of her way not to serve us and becuse of
that no one got a tip. Yes, you all were busy, but he was the one that des-erved a tip, not her, but due to her unprofessionalism one was not given.
This used to be my favorite place, it went from a 5 star to a 3 star, the food
was great, but the silverware was dirty, stuff was floating in our coffee cream,
service took forever to get.
Dave
Family and I enjoyed it so much we went back on last day. The killer items were very good.

The shrimp sandwich (Po' Boy) dipped in the killer sauce is divine! The manager came by twice to chat about the food. Great view, enjoyable time

Good. If you order the killer shrimp though, know that it is super spicy! Made me sweat! But was good!

There Back!!. As most of you know by now, our favorite eatery in Marina Del Rey is Back, and better than ever. Their menu has been expanded, but the three originals are still there; Killer Shrimp "Original", Killer Shrimp over rice and Killer Shrimp over pasta. I know several of you have written that the food is still spot on, but the services is not. To be fair, dear readers, the restaurant is not even one month old, and ALL restaurants take at lease a month to figure out how to operate, so with a totally open mind I will give my review.
First the food; I and my husband ordered the "Original" and it was exactly as I remembered, although I actually think the shrimp are a little larger, but the broth is still as buttery, hot, spicy and as wonderful as I remember. Dipping my figures in the sauce, pulling out a big beautiful shrimp, ripping pealing off the shell is all still part of the fun. Then taking the wonderful French bread they provide in a big colander, and letting it soak up the broth and then setting it on your tongue and chewing the mouth full of spicy goodness is a pleasure not to be missed. I have always loved the "Original" and put up with the mess just to enjoy some of the best shrimp this side of New Orleans.
Now, normally I could care less about the service, as that should only be a very small part of what one is reviewing at a restaurant. You come to a restaurant for the food, not for the staff, and yes, if the staff is bad, then mention it, but the food is the big attraction, and Killer Shrimp is no exception, however, because the majority of the reviews I have read on the various web sites have been very harsh regarding the wait service, I want to pass along this - to be honest we did pick a time that was neither lunch or dinner, as it was a little after 4pm on Sunday (9/18/2011) afternoon. The bar was hopping, due to the many TV screens that were showing an NFL game, but the actual restaurant was fairly open. We were greeted by a very nice young lady and asked if we wanted to sit outside or inside and did we prefer a table or booth. We stated booth and after a quick look in the dining area, we were taken directly to a booth, right by the window, where we could watch fellow diners on the patio and the boats in the marina. That was two minutes from walking through the front door until we were seated in the booth. A very nice young man came by with drinks for another table and smiled and said he would be right with us, and he was. We placed our order for dinner and drinks within 4 minutes of walking through the front door. (Again, to be honest we know exactly what we wanted, having had prior knowledge of what Killer Shrimp is all about.) We were brought our drinks and within 19 minutes of walking through the door our food was placed before us at the table. Our waiter, who by then was getting more busy, as more diners were coming in to eat, continued to check on us, and even noticed that we were almost out of the bread, before all of our bowls were empty, so to my delight he appeared at our table with another colander full of bread, without even being asked to do so.
Bottom line - Food; as Amazing as I remember, and I plan to go through the menu, but it will be very hard to get me to eat anything outer than the "Original", Wait Service; I could not ask for better, our waiter (David I believe it stated on our check) was very helpful and anticipated our needs.
We are making a reservation for Friday night, and even though it will be crowed, I don't expect there will be any problems, as there appear to be plenty of wait and bus staff for that very large restaurant. Thanks for reading, and happy dining!

They're back!!!!!. Ok they're back with a great expanded menu, vibe for days and a lovely location. We had the Ahi tartar and crab cakes for our apps and wedge salad and shrimp to finish off the meal. Everything was spot on. And yes the shrimp are as great as ever. We'll be back to work our way through the rest of the menu...They're back ya'll...

Wait staff is horrific. We sat for nearly 20 minutes after finishing our meal and never got our check - or even a waitress coming by to check on her table. We left a 4% tip only because we didnt want to wait for our change. All waitresses were dressed like hookers, making the environment uncomfortable. I am happy the food has returned both updated and unchanged - the original was among my favorite places to eat. I hope the owners put their trust back into the great food and not in skanky, untrained, incompetent staff.

Very Poor Service and Management. Great location...food was OK. The chef works his tail off (no pun intended) only to have the waitstaff screw up his reputation. We were a group of 7, locals who would have been regulars - but we were so poorly treated that I don't think we will be back until this place turns into something else.

We waited over an hour for our bill, only to find out our waitress had actually quit. We piled gobs of money on the table and just left...they actually had a staff person run us down saying we shorted them $20!

We never saw our bill...yet they felt of the hundreds of dollars we left on the table to have ONE DRINK IN A THREE HOUR PERIOD, warranted harassing us in the parking lot for a $20? I don't think this place is gonna last long.

When The Monster first arrived in LA (right about the time when these newfangled things called automobiles were introduced but definitely before the advent of selfies and memes) he lived on the border of MDR/Venice in a place best remembered for the mirrored closets that never opened properly and ants that took up residence in the kitchen and never left.
