First time here and I was taken back. Friends raved about this Mexican establishment and I was skeptical. I don't really care for Mexican, but I go to the restaurants for the wife. We've been to many, what would make this place particularly different?
We are welcomed by the most charismatic server, Ishmael, who I later learn is the owner's son. He is rolling joke after joke as he seats us. Really funny guy. Kids loved him. I enjoyed him too.
I asked for HIS recommendation. I like plenty to eat, no pork, not crazy about tomatoes, & like crispy textures. He brings me 3 hard shell chicken tacos too big for me to finish. These hard shells were made by hand and fried till crispy on the grill. It was amazing. I've have never had such an entree. The chicken in the taco was so tasty... extremely well seasoned.
Every plate was creatively served as if there was some Talent in the kitchen awaiting discovery. Come to find out... It's the Dad/Owner. They had other employees, but it was obvious who made the magic in this place.
We passed 2 Mexican restaurants on the way to Jalapeño Grill.
I would pass 20 & drive an honest hour to revisit this place. Absolutely remarkable!
I think The Travel Channel needs to survey this establishment.
Living in Florida we have many Mexican restaurants and also after several trips to Mexico this is absolutely the best Mexican food I've ever had.
I had Fijitas with steak, pork, shrimp, chicken and chorizo, the best Guacamole ever and refried beans that weren't ground into a mash.
The waiter was also the newest generation owner, a very personable 19 year old taking over for Dad. Mature beyond his years.
I never would have expected to find the best Mexican restaurant ever in North Carolina but I shouldn't be too surprised since I wrote about an excellent one in Asheville last year.
We are here for 4 days so we will return before we leave.
This place is the absolute best Mexican food place around! Friendly service, awesome food, and a fun filled atmosphere... I would recommend it to anyone!
I am from Rutherford County. The only day I don't like to eat here is on Monday AND Tuesdays... When they are closed!!!Lol. I am extremely impressed with not only the best tasting Mexican food around, but the presentation and time they put in every dish. If you haven't ever had corn cakes, you have missed out!!! So when you may have to wait a little longer for your food to come out compared to other Mexican restaurants... You will see why when your plate arrives!
This is the absolute BEST Mexican food we have found since moving from California. This is true Mexican food. Everything is fresh and there is plenty of it. Be prepared to have along wait on the weekends but the wait is well worth it. Ishmael, the owner's son, is quite the character and very entertaining. He makes you feel right at home. Anything you choose from the menu is excellent. Our favorites are the shredded beef tacos and cheese enchiladas. Or try a "true" chimichanga. You will be very pleasantly surprised. You honestly can't go wrong with anything you choose. Enjoy !!!!!!!!
Great food, good service, large portions. The menu is extensive, and the specialties will make their own place in your imagination. This place has earned a favorite status on my mobile after only one visit, which is very unusual.
Always the freshest, authentic Mexican food in WNC. Portions usually require a box, but saving for later also saves room for the Flan! My personal favorite, and only disappointment is when they are "out." It is that good, but then I have not had a bad experience there. Loyal, repeat diner. Must-eat place for visiting friends.
Made my 1st to-go order & my mouth's watering as I'm waiting at home for arrival...
I absolutely love JALAPEÑOS! Love the food & the people! You won’t find a better, authentic Mexican restaurant.. food is the bomb!!
What a GREAT place!!! 7 of us for Sunday lunch and the waitstaff, owner, & especially the food was FANTASTIC!!! Definitely worth frequenting this place!!!
Loved this place! Spoke directly with the owner for my special Gluten Free needs and I didn't get sick! Ate my leftovers for lunch today! We will definitely return!

Karin and I love going to Jalapeno Fresh Grill and we've always had a great meal there. The food is always good, fresh and very tasty. Ismael makes you feel right at home there!
What a great restaurant with fresh and authentic dishes. I tried the camarones el marty, a generous wonderful dish, and i asked to remove the carnitas (pork) since i don't eat pork. The chef replaced it with a nice fish. Wonderful service.
Amazing food, best Mexican food I’ve had in 25 years!
We were visiting the area and decided to grab dinner here based on the good reviews. This restaurant seems to be a local favorite.
The portions are huge and the prices are pretty cheap so that makes it worth a visit!
They only serve beer and micheladas, no wine or margaritas.
After we munched on the complementary warm chips and bean dip, we ordered the steak flautitas appetizer and steak fajitas for one (to share). Both were good but not amazing.
Amazing!!!!!!! The food is outstanding!!! The salsa bar is awesome, best salsa ever! And to top it off the service is top notch!! Definitely recommend!Prices are very reasonable too! Oh the portions are great too!! The decor is adorable!
Excellent food, service, and great taste.... we were group of 10 with kids and all vegetarians... chef was so friendly and accommodating that he made all our dishes custom veg. & to the perfection. Portions were very generous. He served everything with big smile and so nicely. Beans and Rice were not vegetarian but he served all our food without those but we didn't miss it. Service was so quick and nice hot served. Must recommend for vegetarians. Definitely visiting again if coming to this town.
AMAZING food! The portions are huge, the presentation is the best I’ve seen, and the prices are great. Instead of salsa brought to the table you get beans with chips (which were great). Then we realized all the salsa was in the back at an all you can grab salsa bar which was even better! I would definitely come back, my only qualm was our server was not wearing a mask but all tables were properly dispersed.
We were a party of 4 and all of our meals were delicious. The food looks great and tastes authentic. It did take quite a long time for our meals to come out, thus the 4 stars but I would still highly recommend giving this place a try.
What a gem! We had the molcajete with shrimp, chicken, and pork, and the shrimp soup. Fresh, flavorful, and huge portions. Family-owned and operated, very affordable, everything is homemade, and one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants we’ve been to in North Carolina. If you are in Marion, stop here! Soooooo good!
This place is amazing!!! The food was all obviously fresh and very well made. I want to make a special mention to Ishmel, he was a busy bee working in the restaurant, doing everything from waiting and busing tables, to helping in the kitchen, and running the register. If we ever come to this area again, we know exactly where we will be coming to eat.

One of thw absolute best places to eat! It makes a difference when youv have a licensed chef creating Mexican masterpieces not only the best flavors but presented like no other Mexican restaurant can do. You can really tell the time effort taken with every dish we have ordered.
AMAZING family-run business! Delicious food, friendly service, fair prices, large portions! Don't miss this one! Appetizing nacho chips are served with beans, and there is a salsa bar in the back with a variety of salsas to try, too. Loved the tamale!
Amazing presentation! Really well flavored food. Shrimp came with whole stewed tomatoes, zucchini and onion. Most Mexican places will just put the chipotle shrimp bare. Fantastic salsas and a great waitress too!
The food and prices are great but go with some patience because the service is either short staffed or just slow in general. The gal that was there was friendly and did everything with a smile I just think she needed some help with half the dining room full and she was the only one we saw working.
Great food real Hispanic Food not tex-mex Quality unmatched around here of authentic food presented beautifully. The family running this restaurant are wonderful. Don't come in a hurry this take a little longer not microwaved

My wife and I are FT RVers. We travel the country from East to West, North to South, everything in between and not in that order. We love all kinds of food and are always looking out for an outstanding Mexican Restaurant.
Look no further in the town of Merion. I am certain there are others. However, we ordered Huevos Rancheros that were off the hook! Don't care if the expression is not current. You get the meaning, right? Also, the item is not on the menu. No problem said the cook. Not to mention the salsa bar is well labeled and the salsa, get ready to get some more. It was so good. I asked to have small containers to take with me. We are not from the area as you can tell. We enjoy finding gold nuggets in the food industry.
Of course, we are talking quality Americanized Mexican Food. We have traveled extensively throughout Mexico, South America, Caribbean, Bahamas, etc.
The hosts were endearing and amicable. The service was prompt and attentive to our needs. The only set back for my wifey was no Coke products. }:(> oh well!
It is not a modern structure. It is down to earth and exactly what we like. Certainly, there will be other opinions, nice. I highly recommended it!
Talk about authentic Mexican food. It might take a little while to get the food, but there was one chef and he knew what he was doing. The chips to start - homemade, awesome, and accompanied with a warm bean/cheesy dip. They have a salsa station with 5 different types of varying heat. The portions are massive and delicious. The burrito takes up the whole plate and covered in sauce. The Mexican Taco Trio (pork, chicken, steak) is HUGE and absolutely delicious.
We were looking for somewhere to eat after going hiking in the area and found this place with good reviews on Yelp.
We came in the afternoon and there was almost no one else there. We were seated right away. They gave us complementary bean dip and queso which was awesome. They also have a complimentary salsa bar with many kinds of salsa.
I got the molcajete with steak and my husband got chef Ernesto's fajitas. Both were delicious! I was partial to the molcajete. The steak was cooked perfectly and the vegetables and pineapple salsa that came with it were delicious. It was a ton of food though. We could have easily split one of them.
The only down side is that they were very slow to bring our checks when we were done eating.
I would highly recommend giving this place a try!
The smokey flavor of the chicken was awesome! Taste like what I grill at home . The waitress was awesome
