Amazing views! Perfect place for a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere. Food is just alright. Staff was super nice. Live music during lunch.
This place does not look like much on the outside but it is a jewel! The view from the dining room is wonderful, there is live music most nights, the servers are really friendly and the food is excellent. Everything is fresh and cooked perfectly. They have generous portions and a nice varied menu.
Florida casual. I just can’t get enough of sitting outside on a perfect day along the water enjoying excellent food while listening to music, and that describes my day today. Of course I can’t stop with a one line review.
Bert’s is located along the road to Pine Island in Matlacha, an interesting stretch with all sorts of colorful restaurants and shops. Our first visit, so we played the wide-eyed tourists. All of the seating on the desk was taken but another couple graciously allowed us to join them, and we had a nice conversation. You just can’t beat Florida friendliness, even when recently transplanted from Pittsburgh. It was an excellent start to our late lunch.
As for the food, which is what you really care about, I started with some good and salty Clam Chowder. Plenty of clams and plenty of flavor. I asked what was the most popular dish and our server recommended two, the Fish Tacos and Fish & Chips. I went with the second.
The Fish & Chips was so not traditional English. There was nothing wrapped in newspaper and no need to as there was no excess oil at all. The chips were not fries but instead very thinly cut and very light potato chips (could have used a little seasoning). Instead of a couple of heavily battered pieces of fish there were several small fish pieces, almost like fish nuggets, light and delicious. I also had and enjoyed a nice sample of the deep fried oysters.
Parking may be a bit of a challenge. In addition to right in front of their restaurant, Bert’s also has some additional parking areas. We parked at the other end of the shopping area and walked around and over the bridge, which for us was a nice way to take in the surroundings.
Bert’s was an excellent choice for us today.
I've only had the cheeseburger but it was pretty darn good.

Eclectic...For Some!. This place is as eclectic as it gets. Bikers, tourists, locals, fishermen, retirees...you name it, they are sitting at the bar of this place!
It's not for everyone...but it's a cool bar right on the water with GREAT people-watching appeal.
The blackened and fried shrimp were awesome. The soup and salad weren't so great. Service was pretty good and wasn't too expensive.
Great views. It is a great place to go and just relax and have a good meal
the burgers are really good along with the home made potato chips as is all the food has anyone caught a lobster yet? dont forget about the awsome views out back
It's a great little place to get a way from it all. It's not five star but that's not why you stop at a place like this. You come here for the beer the burgers and the t-shirt shorts and flip flop atmosphere. Kick back get loaded and enjoy the onion rings!
Fabulous and fun!. Whether you just want to enjoy a cold one and gaze out over the bay, or enjoy great food with friends; this is the place. Relax; you're on Island Time!
Bert's hosts great entertainment seven days a week, featuring several of Southwest Florida's favorite bands and singers.
If you can't park immediately in front, there's plenty of parking accross the street in front of Pine Bay Galleries.
Casual attire and boats always welcome.

Yes and yes. Sit outside for lunch and watch the manatees. Pa says it is the best burger in town and it sure is thick. Sis had grouper melt sandwich (special today) and it was fantastic - homemade chips are also excellent; grilled salmon ceasar salad was also very good - and service was quite good. Highly recommended.
Just passing through and found this ace from the spoon. Nestled in what appears to be a tourist area you find a bar full of friendly locals, Grateful Dead on the radio and one heck of a good grouper sandwich. Sit with tbd locals at the bar. Glad we stopped.
My fondest Grouper Sandwich memory is from Berts Bar & Grill in Matlacha... Berts is located on the water – it’s a Bar that has a deck out back, usually with some live music playing, a great spot to stop for some refreshments. They also serve pretty simple yet tasty, unpretentious food. The kind that usually comes in a basket or on disposable plates.
