Just want to brag on the Mattoon Cracker Barrel for a moment. My grandparents have been going there 7 days a week for atleast 5 years now. In that time they have become somewhat of royalty there. Everyone knows who they are and will fight over who gets to be their waitress that particular night and even if they don’t win they still make an effort to stop at their table for a quick hello. Everyone there has made my grandparents their own grandparents. There are nights they get the employee discount and other nights their ticket paid for entirely. Other times my grandparents will show up and have a table reserved and decorated with goodies from the shop just for them on holidays. A few of the waitresses have even taken the time to visit my grandparents at their home in Sullivan. Others have come in to have dinner with them on their day off. If my grandparents skip a night or two of dinner due to sickness workers have been known to get worried and call to check up on them to make sure everything is ok. But it’s not just the waitresses that make them feel so special, it’s the hosts, the store sales persons, the cashiers, and the managers. My grandma has Alzheimer’s and easily forgets that she hasn’t ate anything all day and so many times her meal at Cracker Barrel is the only thing my grandpa can get her to eat. He has been taking care of her the best he can and it is hard, he has had to give up a lot. She used to take care of everything including cooking dinner every night and now he has had to fill her big shoes but can’t quite do dinners as good as she used to. And so the dinners at Cracker Barrel is something he looks forward to every day to get out of the house and have good conversations without all the work that goes in to making dinners. To say the least the Mattoon Cracker Barrel takes care of them and makes them feel important. It’s so easy to forget how alone your grandparents get when the kids and grandkids grow up and get too busy for them. I know that everyone at Cracker Barrel cares as much as I do for them. Tonight I met with my grandparents for dinner and it is also my grandpas 77 birthday. I let the waitress know it was his birthday secretly and at the end of dinner there were atleast 7 girls who came out to sing happy birthday and bring dessert with a signed menu as a makeshift birthday card. Grandpa says he was embarrassed but I know he secretly was in hog heaven. He said he was going home to hang the menu card on the garage wall to keep in sight. I am so thankful that my grandparents have people who care and will watch out for them when I am unable to. I cannot say enough good things to express my full gratitude to all the employees who work at the Mattoon Cracker Barrel.

I always enjoy my experience when I go to store 404. They always make sure I get a great seat and have enough room for all the meals I always order. I always have someone asking me when a drink gets low for a refill and bam refill. Friendly service and food that food you up and leaves you satisfied
