The story of Jack Pirtle's is a fascinating one if you haven't heard it. Long story short one of his employees was the nephew of Harlan Sanders. That's Colonel Sanders to everyone else. When Jack first started selling chicken it was known as Jack Pirtle's Kentucky Fried Chicken. When the Colonel got a bit more successful he started imposing rules on restaurant design and side items. Jack Pirtle parted ways and introduced his own fried chicken and menu items. I personally think it was a good choice. Jack Pirtle's has been a Memphis staple for sometime now.Their chicken is absolutely outstanding. One of my favorite all time things to order of the Liver and Gizzard dinner box. Their dinner boxes comes with fries, biscuits, and gravy. The biscuits are far far far better than any you have ever gotten at KFC or Popeyes and the gravy.......wow the gravy. It many ways it's a highlight. It's great on your biscuit or for dipping your chicken. The chicken is always perfectly fried and juicy.
The Happy Gizzard!. I got to agree with the other reviewer, Lucky Joe. I go here for my chicken gizzard fix, I like to order a large gravy to dip them in too.
Cheap eats. The gizzard and biscuit is my favorite
I make sure to stop here every time I go to Memphis. The fried chicken reminds me of old school fried chicken with a side of gravy.
Small drive thru restaurant. I ordered chicken wings and a chicken sandwich. Both were really good. I didn't like the rice or steak burger.
This particular location is so nice and friendly. I love all the Pirtle's locations. Yes! That is some real down home southern cooking! Great job, very tastey and Thank you all for taking pride in your job. I have enjoyed it for yearsss! Bless y'all.
I came through the drive thru at 9:30 and was politely greeted by the staff. I proceeded to ask a few questions and they still maintained patience and professionalism. When I got to the window I was welcomed by the manager, T, who then let me tweak my order at the window. Idk who needs to hear this but these types of customer experiences don’t happen in Memphis often. Shout out to T- we appreciate you!
Chicken was good. Fries cold and hard. Gravy was good. They charged me for the wrong order, but corrected it immediately. The inside is still nasty as hell, though. But it's always dirty inside, nothing new!
Best fast food chicken sandwhich in the city. Locally owned. Big fat juicy chicken breast! A Memphis tradition.
Long wait time but food is good. Have you ever updating the build maybe a coat of paint and cleaning up inside and outside. I like to know how the health department rates the one on Poplar ave. I would like to see jack pirtle's be around for years but the quality and up keep of the restaurant will put it out of business. Does anyone review customers reviews or just don't care about service
Classic Memphis Restaurant Since 1957, their gravy is one of a kind
Actually.... Today was a great day to order ( Gizzards ). The taste , texture , and most important the cut of the gizzards were perfect 🙂. I must say the Jack Pirtle's location on Poplar is by far the best location. Their gizzards are seasoned to perfection. The location on Jackson cut their gizzards TOO BIG 😳. Keep up the good work ' Poplar '.
The chicken is as good as any in this city, livers are to die for. The sweet tea is great. But the restaurant isn't much to look at, but who cares , it's the chicken stupid
Best chicken in Memphis, and that's including my Mom's! At the window he asked if I wanted to wait 5 minutes for fresh chicken to come out. Why yes! I do!

Quite an experience!! The food was good and the price fit my budget. BUT, the greatest deal was that I found my $600.00 tooth a couple of hours later after I had accidentally thrown it away inside the box when I finished my food! I had taken it out so I could really enjoy my meal!😊 Hallelujah to God!👆Thank you Jesus and The Holy Spirit!! 🙌
