We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Basil's last night. The food was excellent and the presentation was lovely; the waitress was delightful and the other staff members did a great job. It was quiet enough so we could actually hear each other talk--which seems like a rare treat. Our table overlooked the Crystal Court of the IDS building, so we felt like we were outside. Then we went to the Rodriguez concert at the State Theater and he was great too. Wonderful evening "was had by all"!

The pork belly sandwich was very flavorful, but kinda small. I had a Thai soup that was...odd. It had a nice level of spice, but the texture was not what I was expecting.
The beer selection was ok. There were a handful of local brews and two nationals (Miller Lite and Stella).
My son and I were traveling over the weekend, and he is allergic to practically every ingredient that most restaurants use. So, I called ahead of time to ensure that this restaurant to which I'd never been would be able to accommodate my son's particular situation. When we first arrived, we met with Chef Mark, and he worked with us to create a lunch meal that worked for my son. The food was great, so we came back for dinner with similar results. When we come back to Minneapolis in the future, we will be sure to go to Basil's for every meal, as they are very customer oriented and their food is high quality at a very reasonable price!!!
We had the MTM table during our visit. It was very comfortable and there was a nice view of The Crystal Court. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. She made us feel very comfortable. It was very quiet, not busy, when we were there. The portions were generous. I gave four stars due to my dish not having enough flavors. It was sort of bland.
I eat a lot of Mediterranean food; it's my favorite cuisine. No doubt Basil's is the best Mediterranean restaurant in the city! My first visit, I ordered the smoked salmon flatbread, and it was delicious! The salmon was moist, the sauce was just right, and the flatbread was light and crunchy. My first visit was so marvelous I decided to pay a visit the next day. During my latest visit, I ordered the Mediterranean Platter. It carries the pita bread, hummus, tabbouleh, marinated chicken, falafel, and jasmine rice. It was so yummy I ate as I drove. I talked my boyfriend into joining me days later; he wasn't impressed and as empty as it was the staff was slow, the place was unorganized. I'll continue explore the menu but certainly during lunchtime when the staff's slightly more attentive and not panicky.
We came here last week with our Groupon or Living Social coupon, I can't remember but it was a lovely experience. First, Jan our almost 70 year old waitress was extremely sufficient and sharp. The coupon was for 2 glasses of house wine, 1 appetizer, 2 salads and 2 entrees. We split the lamb pasta appetizer and it was delicious, then I had the beet salad and my husband had the caeser salad. They were both delicious as well, the caeser salad was kind of roasted or something but he really liked it. Then I had the steak and he had the pork chop. My steak was out of this world, done to perfection and melted in my mouth. The bread that was served with the salads was just out of the oven with like a garlic butter, yummmm. Could have eaten a whole loaf of that alone.
We sat in the part of the reataurant that protruds over the IDS center and watched people come and go, while listening to the water fall inside and watching the snow fall outside.
We will return, it was a great experience.
Wonderful place all around. Doorman downstairs was definately the highlight though. He apparently was in Mighty Ducks. Greeter took our bags for us and we seemed to have a portion of the restaurant to ourselves. Timing of food and drinks was superb.
Beautiful lunch spot with views of the IDS atrium. Impeccable service and incredibly professional waitstaff. Will return again.
the new menu shows an effort to modernize the dated old menu. good drinks and good food.
