3.5 actually.
The apps were good. We tried the calamari, gyoza and the tuna tartar, I like this one best. I ordered the seafood tempura dinner and my daughter ordered the fuji ya special bento. Just a note, the tempura dinner is a lot. Both of these items are nothing to brag about.
We ordered some sushi items but for me, they all taste the same wherever you are.
Then we ordered dessert (forgot the name) but, the chocolate roll is so dry.
I'd only go back for the tuna tartar.
Fuji Ya is definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants I've ever been to. I'm not big on sushi but they had a phenomenal lineup of none-sushi appetizers and entrees. The atmosphere is high-end yet cozy and not hoighty. A perfect place for a nice dinner, dinner date, etc. The drink selection seemed lovely although I didn't order.
Every part of our meal was delicious and absolutely perfect; you MUST have the yakiniku if you like meat. The tempura ice cream was also a wonderful wrap up to the meal; we had the ginger flavored ice cream and I was surprised at how much I liked it! There had been a slight back up before we were seated but we were informed immediately and the wait staff was nothing but polite and amicable. As service slowed down our waiter would drop by to chit chat with us and it made our time there all the more fun and memorable. I couldn't recommend this place more!
Fuji Ya is by far one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Minneapolis. We love going for happy with a variety of items available. Everything tastes so fresh and they have a great combination of flavors. It's a great stop of escape for date night!
This is a cute neighborhood place for delicious sushi and other Japanese fare. There chefs do an excellent job. They have a casual/fun bar area and a more quiet restaurant. Nice decor and not too stuffy or formal.
They have tatami mat rooms for parties. Very fun!
I love this place. I cant necessarily speak for rush hours, but 8pm dining and beyond find Fuji Ya very warm and serene if you’re seated in the dining room. I love the lighting and burgundy coloring in the evening. If you can make it onto the patio, it’s quite charming during warmer months. The menu is extensive and very good—a little pricey, but worth it. Service is standard, slows down a bit later in the evening, but not to a complete detriment. I would say this restaurant is a great choice for low-key sushi night and low-lit romantic conversation.
The ambience was perfect. For groups seeking a pleasantly situated happy hour in a cozy little lounge fixed with a bar and sushi counter on each side of the room, look no further. Larger groups however would more likely be situated in the dining room, which is much larger and has louder music. As for my group of three, we were just in time for happy hour, receiving our drinks quite timely given the amount of people in the room. When it came to our food, we each had ordered about 2 rolls a piece, but service took quite long, even for sushi. The reason I ranked five stars given this discrepancy is because the quality was superb. I would have liked to see more attentive service when it came to refilling my Coca-Cola, but I also appreciate the lack of an overeager server; the one who asks how everything is right as you take a huge bite? To summarize, Fuji Ya has something for sushi lovers, happy hour humans, and solo eaters alike. Definitely worth the trade off over all you can eat places.
Decent quality sushi!
Nice ambience on both sides of the restaurant (there's a quieter, dimly-lit side, and a casual side with brighter lighting and good overhead music.)
The help is exemplary. Patient and professional. Real 'feel-good' attitudes, throughout the place.
Super-clean bathrooms.
Price is fair. Value is good. Happy Hour is a bargain!
Well done, Fuji Ya. I will return.
Came here with a friend the other day after passing it so many times on my commute. The food is amazing and the cocktails are great! We got a large platter of sashimi and sushi rolls, and the staff was really great in helping us pick out ones we would like. The atmosphere is nice, too, great for a quick lunch or a nicer dinner.
This is a pretty neat Japanese restaurant. You can request one of the special private rooms where you take off your shoes and sit on the floor. It's fun but not the best for tall people or those with stiff hips and knees, because the table is very low. The food is excellent. We ordered the chef's platter, where the chef decides what you get. It was mostly really good, but we would have preferred more rolls and fewer cuts of plain raw fish. The octopus was flat out gross, which isn't the restaurant's fault, but octopus is naturally like chewing on rubber. The plum wine is tasty, but don't get the plum in the bottom. It looks like an unappealing piece of anatomy in the bottom of your drink. So, great atmosphere, excellent food and drink, just a couple things were less than stellar for the price.
This is a lovely place. I have had both great sushi here (incredible, in fact) and disappointing sushi. The food overall is good. It is fun to go outside your comfort level and try new things. The kitchen definitely knows what it is doing. Pricey, but worth it. Lovely dining room. Nice atmosphere.
This is my favorite sushi place, hands down. The #9 roll is to die for. Oh! And their salmon cream cheese wanton things are AMAZING. Service is usually pretty good though I usually order through Bitesquad. Decent happy hour.
This sushi place is incredible in it's atmosphere. You feel like you are in a different part of the world when you enter their restaurant. Their sushi are fresh and good portions. They have a big variety of fish, flavors, and preferences. Friendly staff.
The food here was very fresh. Truly some of the best sushi and other Japanese food you'll ever have in the States. There's a reason they're perennially voted the Best in Minneapolis. To do better you'd have to travel to Japan!
Our favorite local sushi. Always fresh! The owner is often there and will remember you. We like to sit at the sushi bar and while we usually ask for a bunch of sushi we know we will love, we also ask for chef's choice and eat whatever they recommend. Always great food. Especially like the complimentary appetizers at the sushi bar. Great service. For the kids, we order rice with spoons, gyoza, edamame, and special Japanese pop.
