I came with a Japanese couple that live in Tokyo and have lived in Japan for their 50+ years. They were as impressed by the food as I have always been. The cooking is authentic Japanese style as found in traditional cafes in Japan. The couple absolutely cleaned their plates. August 25, 2017.

A great place to eat! Family owned and run. We have been eating here for over 15 years. Love the chicken nanban, beef teriyaki, sukiyaki, and chicken katsu.

Modesto Sukiyaki has the best deal on beef curry! $6.25 for the lunch bowl. My favorite! Yum yum.

Best food ever. The salad and dressing is amazing, the peanut chicken with white meat is my favorite. They are always friendly. I just wish they were open all the time!! :-)

I rarely give anything a 5-Star, but this restaurant truly is the best around. One of the few Japanese restaurants that aren't all about sushi, not that sushi is bad, far from it-it's just refreshing to to have other varieties of cusine to chose from. My family and I have been dining there for many years and the quality and consistency cannot be beat!

I love this place!!! They have the best curry I've ever had. I drive all the way from sonora whenever I have the chance just for the curry :)

We love their "Hiya-Yakko (cold tofu) " and think It's the best among all the Japanese restaurants we've been to in CA!! They also have friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices! We went there for our kids' birthday!

Was craving some katsu curry and found Modesto Sukiyaki. The fish tasted fresh and the plating was rather appealing. The Katsu curry was very good and definitely hit the spot. I will be back to try more of their menu for sure!

I’m almost at a loss for words... Words can NOT describe how Fantastic this food was! Every bite from appetizer to main course was 10/10!! Please do yourself a favor and try the spicy edamame. The sauce is more mild spicy with a sweet tang. The presentation was top notch elegancy and the environment was so welcoming. Staff was so nice and didn't bug you. They went out of their way to thank us for coming in. We don't always get sushi but oh my goodness .... This is an unforgettable experience. This is permanently our go to spot!

Modern Japanese food that looks and tastes pretty good. Interesting to see some of the "fusion" rolls with Italian or Mexican ingredients but not sure how the taste works out. The Seared Tuna Appetizer was great, and if adding a little bit of sauce--esp since there is salad--it works be even better. The Black Thunder Roll was pretty good with reasonably-sized eel pieces on top, but the asparagus inside the roll was a bit of a surprise to me, and I think avocado or cucumber might be a better choice. The Pork Katsu Curry was also pretty good; the pork cutlet was done nicely, though the curry could be a little more spicy for us--which will add to the aroma too.

It was all delicious. The one on the far left is the Lion King Roll, to the right of that one is the Volcano roll (jalapeños on top) the one to the right of that is called the Flaming Roll, and i can’t remember the one with the flower on it. And the one on the farthest right is a california roll. Only thing I was bummed about is they don’t have fountain machine for soda, just cans. But i took it as a sign I need to drink water anyway. 4 stars outta 5. Ps they didn’t charge me extra for adding tempura crumbs on one of the rolls which was nice.

The restaurant is small but clean. The foods are ok and quite pricey. The sukiyaki is good but the meat makes the sukiyaki taste a little bit off. The server fast and nice.

Delicious roll! A big compliment to the chef. I appreciated that rolls had generous amount of fish. Rice is fluffy, fresh. Everything we ordered tasted delicious!
