This restaurant was recommended by the hotel concierge as a "locals" hotspot. I arrived early and it was well presented with a nice feel to it. I like a darker beer on the room temperature side and my waitress brought me a (can??) of big bunny beer. While I'll admit I was expecting a glass of draft, the beer was surprisingly tasty! I ended up ordering a second one near the end of my meal. The bacon wrapped shrimp entree arrived and the shrimp were the size of large prawns, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. The main course of cauliflower Ravioli was served and "delicious" simply doesn't do it justice. Although a "hungry man" portion choice would have been nice, the quality was exceptional. Unique here is the opportunity to "buy the back staff a six pack" for their efforts and I absolutely took care of that!

Fantastic service and food to match -- perfect! Our server gave great suggestions. The BLT salad was split between two -- house back bacon was delicious with heirloom tomatoes. Scallops instead of salmon with the mushroom risotto -- five-star choice. Braised short ribs -- delightful. Old Gringo cocktail knocked our socks off ;)

The best of both worlds. Fine dining in a friendly semi casual setting. The professional wait staff were very attentive to our needs. We chose the outside seating so we could bring our beautiful visla dog. The apitizers were amazing. The main courses rivaled many of the top restaurants in the state and country ! Yes it was that good. The wine selection was incredible, specializing in rare local wines like "Pizoni" pino noir. I lived in Louisiana for 4 years and every restaurant has their own special bread pudding. The bread pudding at Montrios was by far the best that i ever had. Truly a great dining experience.

The food was great. I selected the short rib risotto and the kale salad. The service was even better. A well oiled machine, every staff member was spot on. Scott was my server and he could not have been better.

My friend and I had an early dinner and shared 4 appetizers and the medium plate risotto with short ribs. Everything was very delicious and our server Cassandra was the best. We placed our choices one after another with time in between each one to enjoy conversation, she was patient, accommodating and making our dining experience fun and enjoyable. We will definitely come back.

My husband and I have a history with this restaurant. It was highly recommended when planning our wedding in the Monterey area in 2001. Our reception was held at Montrio. The planner and staff were incredible and made the afternoon memorable. The menu for the day was a culinary delight. Since then, we make it a point to stop in for lunch or dinner when visiting downtown Monterey, which by the way has some wonderful shops and local hangouts. The food reflects the talent of Executive Chef Tony Baker. It has been a trill trying out new items on the menu over these past 17 years! Yes, we plan to get in there sometime this year, maybe for our anniversary!

AMAZING food! We had the smaller plates plus a salad and drinks. Crab cakes were the best I've ever had. The risotto was flavorful and our bacon and egg salad was light but filling. The service was spectacular (even though it was busy for Valentine's Day.) We came all the way from Sacramento and we will definitely be back!

This is one of the best meals I've had in a while! I'm always a fan of sea scallops and risotto in their simplest form and sometimes feel that chefs try too hard. However, the leeks and roe really took this dish over the top! Additionally, the flourless chocolate cake is the creamy, "fallen souffle" style (vs the dense, fudgy kind)... And this is a rare find. 🥰 Finally, the crafty cocktail menu did not disappoint. I say at the bar but admitted the cute little red, barrel -shaped booths. I am traveling mostly packed for hiking. I failed to pack anything other than my trail shoes and felt significantly frumpy compared to most of the guests. However, the staff was nothing but courteous, attentive and helpful and the bartender helped talk me through some tough menu choices.

First meal @montriobistro, a very inventive, local, and fresh restaurant serving sustainable fish 🐠 Tonight was very busy, so service was not attentive 😌 We asked the server to split our check and he didn’t wanted to do it. I was busy talking and catching up, so I couldn’t take photos of all plates, but there were some crab cakes and pork belly for appetizers. And our friends also ordered the Halibut with risotto special of the night, as well as the Orecchiette 👌 The bread was warm and served with butter spread. My family enjoyed: 👌 Pan Roasted Branzino (Mediterranean Sea Bass) with stewed tomato, artichoke farro, chermoula sauce, preserved lemon 🍋 👌 Jidori Chicken with garlic herbs, roasted “under a brick”, served with potato gnocchi, roasted rainbow carrots, and natural jus 🎉 👌 Kids menu - Pan Seared Salmon with heirloom squash 👏 👌 Grilled Chicken breast with French fries (for the boys). 🍷Bottle of wine - “Educated Guess”, Napa County, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2021, 14.5% 🍻Draft - East Brother Beer Company. #familydinner #michelinguide #michelinguidecalifornia #localfish #sustainability #montereybay #monterey #montriobistro #local #californiancuisine #californianbeer #californianwine #napawine #friendship #reunion #guests #kidsmenu #branzino #mediterranean #seabass #jidorichicken #heirloomsquash #farro #artichokes #eatsustainably #cheflife #pastrychefyana #michelinrestaurant #labordayweekend #finedining

Copied from my review on other platform: Good service and foods. The cocktail were very tasty and refreshing. We ordered short rib and wagyu as entries. The American wagyu wasn’t as good as Japanese wagyu but still well prepared. It’s side potatoes was very crispy. For the slow braised short rib, it was very delicious with rich flavor. However it became a little salty when you almost finish it. So I’d recommend add some sides to balance its taste other than the provided mashed potatoes. We also ordered oyster and onion soup as appetizer. The soup was delicious and oyster was fresh.

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars. Just walking up to the building, the smell makes you prepared for deliciousness. The cocktails were creative ... brown butter old fashioned / miso harmony (mix the foam in if you get this). The appetizers were amazing. The Agnolotti had one of the best cheese sauces we've ever had and we ate it like soup after the (red) pasta was gone. Crab cakes has great flavor too. Sadly the entrees did not hold up and it was downhill from there. The Branzino was well cooked but needed a lot more if the lemon herb (chimichurri of sorts) to tie it together with the faro better. The duck was delicious but the sweat maple glaze was more like water and soaked into the forbidden rice too much sweet rice is an off flavor). The bok choy had awesome smoke flavor from it char on the grill. We'd definitely give Montrio a second chance if we ever back (for more of the Agnolotti)

I nice place to dine at if you are looking for a more elegant place to spend your night. (It’s not too fancy that you need to dress really formal though; you can still see groups of friends gathering here for a chill night) I enjoyed the starters more than the entrée. I gave this place 4 stars because the scallops and steak and the duck are too salty; the flavorings covers the original sweetness of the meat. Nevertheless, all the other dishes are really well-made. The flavors are exquisite and special you can taste how the chef has spent efforts on developing the menu.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this wonderful restaurant with my mother, who was visiting from Croatia. It has always been our favorite place to dine whenever we visit Monterey, and our most recent visit only reaffirmed why. The highlight of our evening was undoubtedly the Osso Buco, a dish we both adore. It was prepared to perfection, with tender meat that practically melted in our mouths. And, of course, we couldn't resist indulging in their staple dessert, the Bread Pudding. It was nothing short of divine, a sweet conclusion to an already memorable meal. What truly made our dining experience exceptional, however, was our waiter, Chris. He was not only attentive but also incredibly friendly and professional. His warm demeanor and knowledge of the menu added an extra layer of delight to our evening. Thank you to the entire team at the restaurant for consistently delivering a top-notch dining experience. It's a place that holds a special place in our hearts, and we can't wait to return on our next visit to Monterey.

We loved the duck breast and farmers salad with its artistic layout. Absolutely delicious homemade crème brûlée. Possibly the best service in Northern California. What a treat!

Highly recommend this restaurant. The food is fantastic and the service is phenomenal. Can make modifications for food allergies and the staff is very knowledgeable. We ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp, and the smoked salmon as our small dishes. For our medium dishes, we got the artichoke heart (grilled to be gf), seared scallops, and the 48 hour bacon. Finally, had the short rib for the entree.

Every plate was a work of art and had the flavors to back it up to. The onion soup and octopus before the meal were phenomenal! The wagyu was perfectly cooked and the flavor was to die for. The filet mignon was perfect and the potato and oyster mushrooms with it brought the who plate together. The creme brulee and bread pudding were a brilliant way to finish the meal. Overall a wonderful experience and I will happily go again.

A must experience dining restaurant in Monterey, CA. Food was delicious! Service was first class! The restaurant is beautiful on the inside! Newly remodeled with comfortable seating and an interior design that leaves you amazed!!! My party and I promise to return to Montrio Bistro on the next visit of this beautiful beachfront city! Have no shame if you skip straight to desert! The Bread Pudding is the most delicious dessert that I have ever tried!!!

Great dining experience. Friendly and helpful staff. Cozy seating. Food was excellent from our appetizer to our entree. We will visit again. We had a reservation, but on a Monday didn't seem necessary. Guessing that a reservation on the weekend would be a good choice to make. I called before going to ask about dress code, I was informed that there wasn't one. I would recommend maybe business casual to keep with the atmosphere of the restaurant. Great place to take a date.
